Hi I am seeking the expertise of this forum to help me pick the best price/performance card for this aging system.
I have a 350w power supply so that might also be a factor though the PSU calculator I used said I should be ok. Though under full load with the latest cards I would be cutting...
For anyone who has a Smart Power I have a question.
The back fan on the Smart Power wasnt spinning up on boot and I was just trying to verify 100% that it should be spinning up on boot.
The reason I am asking is because this isnt a cut and dry problem. I removed the Smart Power I thought...
About at the end of my rope with this virus. Its a new smitfraud variant that hijacks your computer. It seems to be based around www.antispynet.com an obvious shill site for these toads.(put our military to good use go and send death squads after these bastards).
It does the usual smitfraud...
I'm on my second x800xl now after RMA'ing the first(serial #s are different on second one so I assume its a different card).
Both cards have the same symptoms so I'm assuming now its not the cards problem.
The system is being powered off a 350w Antec Smartpower 2.0. Not a huge supply but...
I have an older AOpen board with Silent Tek fan control. After living with the ability to control fan speeds by % rates I couldnt live with a board that didnt have that capacity.
So my question is if this feature is the norm now on boards. IF not I would appreciate if people could list the...
I was checking out buying a MSI board and I noticed the boards have a 2-year warranty with a year 3 parts only warranty. Anyone know when this changed as I know my old MSI board had a full 3 year warranty.
As far as I know the only manufacturers with a full 3 year warranty now are Asus...
At a cursory glance it appears that the best chip available for a motherboard with a 333mhz bus is the Barton 3000 chip. Just wanted to make sure theres not some better chip that will slot in a 333mhz board.
I want to lengthen the life of my system and want to be sure to get the best chip...
And thats about as diplomatically as I can state this, as the X800pro trumps the 6800u in the game.
I dont think its a surprise that ATi cards did well considering their architecture but I certainly didnt predict the differential would be so large.
Halflife 2 benchies
Or maybe they are but i'm not finding them.
At one point sites were putting out .wav files of the noise of the cards. It seems like a simple thing to do in a review and lets you know what the card will sound like when you plug it in.
I've built a quiet system with Panaflo fans and quiet PSU...
Well folks I just got my prized Radeon 9800pro and a 200gb Seagate drive so the perfect condition 64m 8500 w/3.3ns ram and the 40gb 7200 rpm Seagate drive have got to go.
I had a thread over on Ars Technica but their message board crudded out so its here.
ATi Radeon 8500 64mb- this is one...
Its a Powercolor 9700np. I havent paid much attention to whats the best cooler. I hope to put a better(not signficantly nosier) cooler on an also put ramsinks on the memory to get it up 9700pro speeds. Thanks for the assistance in advance.
The one with the different coloroed rectangles with numbers beside them. Ok it prints them out, but it doesnt give you good instructions on which one to pick. Do I want to pick the rectangle thats a constant color, or do I want to pick the rectangle which distinctly prints all the little...
I have a slk800 on my Palomino XP2000, well I'm RMAing the motherboard and using the SLK800 in a new system with the Barton 2500.
My question being does the SLK800(its the one with the clips, not the clamp that goes underneath) work with the Barton cores as well as with the Palomino cores...
Well my AMD761 doesnt care for my 512mb of PC2100 ram it fails memtest and the system is unstable.
Theres nothing wrong with the ram itself because I tested 4 sticks and it all messes up in the same place.
My question is what chipset is known to run cheap ram well?
SiS?
