    Hotmail/Yahoo Mail problems

Since midday yesterday, I haven't been able to see my Hotmail or Yahoo mail. I'm not the only one having this problem - my friend who also has Charter in town can't either. Have tried on 4 different computers (including his) and it just stalls. It happens when I try to post/login on a few...

    Best Inexpensive DDR PC3200

I'll put in a left field vote for Geil Value Series. They're right - it is a great value. Love mine.

    Linux on SATA?

Thanks - I've gotta ask the teach tomorrow (Mon. only class) if Core 3 is too different for what we do. 'Til then, Core 1 goes on a friend's old crappy Compaq lappy (yuck, Compaq :().

    Linux on SATA?

I wanna install Fedora, but am not sure if I need it to be on my Windows drive (WD Raptor, which it's not detecting) or I can put it on one of my two PATA drives and it'll be ok. And no, I don't wanna use another distro that has SATA support because the class I'm in is using Fedora (Core 1, if...

Dual booting Fedora w/ an XP system

Ok, here's my stupid question turn. This is how my PC is currently set up: 13 GB partiton w/ XP 50 GB partition w/ apps/games How should I put Fedora on there? Would it be best to make a new partition out of one of those or should I absolutely reformat it and start fresh? Muchas gracias!

I've loved CDex for about 5 years - never had a problem with it quality-wise. Ever.

No one ever talks about the Solktek 939 mobo, but I love mine.

    Two computers/one monitor?

I believe it was a Trendware - I tried it about 2 months ago, but if there's one out there that won't degrade image quality I'd get it.

    Two computers/one monitor?

Well, I tried one KVM (VGA one) and it made everything look like crap. Is there one that isn't $100 that won't destroy my image quality?

    Two computers/one monitor?

My monitor has two inputs - 1 DVI, 1 VGA - can I plug two computers into it so I don't need a KVM switch?

Xp reactivation--How many of you have used up your five lives?

XP reactivation has been flaky with my system. I've added hard drives, changed CPUs, added RAM, etc, all without needing to reactivate. But once all I did was update my DVD+/-RW firmware and I had to call in.

    Windows XP Pro

No way XP would run as fast as 98 on that thing. It'd get close if you stuck a 256 MB stick of RAM in there, but even then....ick.

The best Operating System for you!

Palm OS - I'm punctual, straightforward and useful! At least I wasn't Windows 1.0 or ME. :D

windows good yes or no poll!

Anything after Win98 is good - but Win98 was demon spawn in my eyes. I do love OSX though. :)

    Win 2KPro or XP Home

I just think XP is better as long as you have the memory for it, and IMO, 512MB is the sweet spot.

    My thoughts on Newegg.com

Never had any problems with Newegg, love 'em, but about 99% of my stuff from there. The two times I needed to RMA, it was quick and painless.

    custom pc attempt 3

If you're a nongamer, that looks fine. All I'd recommend is getting a Western Digital SE hard drive w/ 8MB cache instead, it's worth the extra $10 or however much. You could even get a cheaper video card if you don't game. The Samsung CDRW/DVD is great - just bought the same one a few weeks...

    Win 2KPro or XP Home

If you've got 512MB or more of memory, use XP.

What if you bought it with an IDE cable? :)

    Question about OEM licences

The license is yours to do with as you will as long as it's legal - it's not tied to a computer.

Transferring XP from 1 HD to another?

Another vote for clean install - otherwise you're just asking for problems. Sure, it MIGHT work........but spending a day reinstalling everything is better than possibly 2-3 days of troubleshooting.

PSU's either works or it doesn't, right?

I will say that I just had a PSU go bad, and my PC would shut down randomly for a few weeks, thought it was drivers, but then the whole thing died, ended up being the PSU slowly dying.l

    best 939 motherboard?

I'm having no problems at all the Soltek K8T800pro. So far, I'd even say it's the best mobo I've had.

reused thread. I am in twilight zone. Reinstalled windows xp. Nothing came up on desktop.

I actually had a problem w/ my new mobo not liking one of my CD-RW drives even though it worked fine in my previous setup. Wouldn't even setup Windows until I unplugged the drive.

    Best OS for Older Hardware

Another vote for Win2K. Most secure and stable - XP would work, but it'd get bogged down quickly.

    CPU spikes at 100%

    CPU spikes at 100%

Ok, here's the deal. My PC shuts down for what's seemingly no reason way too often - no viruses, it's clean of spyware, etc. I have a 2.53 P4 and there's no way it should be running at 100%, is there? If not, is that is? And what can I do to fix it? The rest of my system is in my profile.

    Apple OS questions

I had Jaguar running fine on a 333mhz Lombard Powerbook with 192 MB of RAM. More memory is better.

    Poll: Is Rambus Ram dead??

No question RDRAM is/was great stuff, but it's just way too expensive. You can get twice as much DDR for the price of a stick of RDRAM.

How do you 'physically' erase a HDD?

Degaussing isn't even a 'fail-safe' method - the teachers at my school tried (for curiousity's sake) putting a hard drive in a field of 3 degaussers (something like that, I was tired that day) and they were still able to get the data back. In reality, the only fail-safe way of making data...
