Newbie: Need to Upgrade Dell 8200

i see you were thinking about reusing the case. Forget it. Dell uses a proprietary mounting system (looks like ATX, but it really isn't). Also, your Power Supply (if i remember correctly) is proprietary. Just follow the other advice given here. New case/mobo/graphics/memory etc.

WMP11 - better than WMP10? Worth upgrading? Any negatives?

Upgrade to WMP 11. I love it. Plus, Microsoft announced there is a critical hole in WMP 9 and 10 (they haven't patched it to my knowledge, someone correct me if i am wrong). WMP 11 does not have the hole. Another reason to upgrade. :) Let me find the link for that...

    L733r chassis recycle

I am not an expert on Dell cases, especially yours, but i have a little experience with the 8200/8300 series cases. I looked into the Dell documentation on your computer, and I don't think you will be able to. Reasons supporting: --Placement of Power supply would block most current day...

    Need Recommendations

i am looking to replace a dead CD-RW/DVD drive. I need something that: (1) plays DVD well (not audio/video synch issues, my old one had that) and (2) burns CD's pretty fast and finally (3) a good reliable company with reliable products and support. I am looking to spend less than 30 dollars...

    Firmware Flash Problem

Ok, well here is the story. I was having some trouble reading with my LG GCC-4522B CD-RW/DVD drive. I checked the firmware and found there was a new one available. I located the new firmware (1.08) and verified that it matched my drive. I followed the included instructions and then began the...

    Removing CPU from heatsink?

i have tried the hair dryer method. it worked for me (had to remove my processor from a Dell Heatsink). I would guess it would vary based on the heatsink.

    Video and Audio problem

I am sorry. I don't know of any. You can try googling and see if you can turn up anything. your other option would be to buy a USB soundcard (creative sells them). However, they are expensive. truly sorry though.

    Video and Audio problem

Not to be mean or anything, but you are being pretty vague. is this on your computer or TV. If it is on your computer (assuming it is) those here need some more details. Do you have onboard sound (speakers plug into motherboard) or a PCI soundcard (such as a sound blaster)? Can you give us the...

Difference between ECC and non-ECC ram

ECC is primarily used in server applications. Non-ECC is what is more mainstream. Performance..don't really know. I would think it would be hard to find a mainstream motherboard that supports ECC memory

    sorry for dumb question

    Motherboard-Power Supply Question

something i was wondering. Would putting a new power supply, such as a seasonic or antec, affect an older motherboard. I was wondering that because I have a Intel D815EEA2 motherboard (5 years or so old) that needed a new power supply (old one died). I was curious if the higher amperage on the...

    D815EEA2 fails to Post

yea, i tried a 2 different RAM discs (total of 3). The original 128, a 256 that had worked before and then the new 128 stick I had gotten. None worked. thanks for the suggestion though.

    D815EEA2 fails to Post

no, i don't have a spare graphics card. I did try using the integrated graphics card after I reset the cmos battery, but no luck. I am beginning to wonder if the motherboard didn't get fried by the old one :(

    D815EEA2 fails to Post

I have a D815EEA2/D815EPEA2 with a P3 933 mhz. The computer booted consistently 2 days ago. Yesterday, I put in a some new ram and then tried the power the system on. The computer would not boot after I put the ram in (the power supply died, no fans nothing). Today, I got a new power supply and...

    Deleting Account??

Well, i only joined when i had a bad firmware flash (not my fault, i don't think, anyway the drive was old), hoping someone could help me, but then i realized that the drive was dead. I then considered asking for the mod's to delete and then i decided against. So after considering that thought...

Check for firmware upgrades for it...some companies have them, some don't. If you can't find any, then just get a drive. Newegg has them at good prices. Good luck

    Buffer increase=Slight Performance Increase??

Thanks for confirming the power supply issue. I haven't built a rig yet, so i am not real knowledgeable on PSU. I like the Western Digital 80 gb, 7200 rpm HD with 8 mb buffer, although Seagate is very appealing, like you said, the 5 year warrenty, plus being very quiet. How much time do you...

    Buffer increase=Slight Performance Increase??

that WD looks nice...but i am hesitant, i had a friend whose WD died after 1 year (if even that). Oh, the other question i had..I have a 200 watt hard drive. Would i have to put a new PSU in if i put in the HD. Current setup is follows P2 400 mhz 320 ram (i was wrong last time) 10 gb Maxtor...

    Buffer increase=Slight Performance Increase??

Aged, yes, 6 years this past Christmas. The age factor is what is holding me back from deciding to upgrade the HD or not. I have a feeling it wouldn't be worth it, what do you all think. Thanks. Edit: i just can't seem to justify an $80 or $90 upgrade...somehow it doesn't seem worth it

    Buffer increase=Slight Performance Increase??

How would upgrading from a 256 kb buffer to a 2mb impact performance. My current drive in my computer is a maxtor 5400 rpm hd, with a 256 kb buffer. I use the computer for mild gaming (older games) and surfing the web. Windows 98 takes about 2 minutes to load up, and switching between programs...

    Hitachi Hard Drive

Thanks all. I like the 400 gb, but i don't need that much space. I figured the 250 gb because it doesn't cost that much, but it has a lot of space. Oh, and the other thing i was wondering, does it run too hot....i really don't have room for a HDD cooler, so i need to know. I won't be using it...
