    1 GB (2 pcs 512) DDR2 (533) PC2-4200 Patriot Signature

Thank you. This is just what I was looking for for my new Dell. Only having 512 MB is killing me in WoW with the stuttering frames.

    Free Colgate Toothbrush

Seems like an interesting research project. They're getting data from various brands of toothbrushes. They can note the bristle wear for design effectiveness and common brushing habits towards developing a better toothbrush. They're using real world data rather than data gathered from machine...

    Decent 5.1 Speakers?

Should go to some site where they review many different speakers. NewEgg customer reviews are much like my own. Limited experience based off un-similar products. I figured, since my Sennheiser headphones were awesome at delivering clear and crisp sound (said to be found comparable on speaker...

2 LCD panel price reports contradict each other

Conspiracy is someone's making LCD prices an issue that's blown up. With more media attention and LG, one of the top panel manufacturers, intending to increase it's prices, yet reducing it's manufacturing cost... By throwing in news that doesn't seemingly make sense, people want to know more...

I need a quiter hs/fan for this cpu!!

Good choice. Large diameter fan with quality HS = better cooling at the same RPM. Higher RPM = louder and more annoying high-pitch/high-frequency noise. As long as you have the space for somethat that big and don't mind paying more than half of what your processor costs. :)

    Decent 5.1 Speakers?

The z-5500s rock. Love my set... but then again, I haven't tried much else. I upgraded from a cheap $20 2.1 set to $180 Sennheiser HD-590s (headphones). I missed the bass, so I decided to go back to a high quality speaker set. I found the z-5500 on sale for about $225 from Dell and went for it...

    No display on monitor

Well, power supply gives power to mobo. If it's not outputting enough power, some vital parts may not power up correctly. It's like putting a 9800 Pro AIW in a Shuttle with a 150W PS. The fans take minimal power and are always wired in a fail-safe parallel-like method, not in series like...

2 LCD panel price reports contradict each other

Contradiction is in the titles. Efficient manufacturing cuts LCD production cost in half Shortages of LCD panel materials could mean higher LCD prices (Demand for LCD desktop monitors surges 26 percent) And there is some conspiracy.

2 LCD panel price reports contradict each other

I was thinking that they are encouraging people to buy LCDs now, even though prices will continue to drop. I wonder how many people made up their mind to buy LCD monitors after that first report. I wonder if anyone decided it would be a good investment to buy now and sell during the end of '05.

AMD wins Best CPU Manufacturer at an Intel sponsered event

That's not being a sore loser. Being a sore loser is making excuses, whining, and/or directly getting revenge through dishonorable methods. That is just saving themselves from embarrassment. Honor carried foward the act far enough to that point. I respect Intel for that. Making fun of...

2 LCD panel price reports contradict each other

New manufacturing process decreases production cost of panels by ~62%. http://www.tomshardware.com/hardnews/20050413_163827.html In a related article (link at end of above article), a report says shortages will force LCD (10" and bigger) prices to rise in the last half of '05. Anyone...

    Tricky upgrade question

I guess, since you play WoW, you can think about it like this: You see that awesome item in the AH, but it's 5 levels higher than you. It doesn't have a bad price and you don't see anything else with as high stats like it. You bid and get it to save for when you're that level. When you get...

    Tricky upgrade question

I see you got down your problems and solutions already... #1. More RAM will solve the jerkiness. #2. Once the jerkiness is gone, you will start noticing poor frames. Upgrading your vid card will give you a better frame rate, as well as enhanced visuals. Personally, I can live with a...

    No display on monitor

Hmm? Lightning storm damage? Electrical surge? Crappola power supply? It does, suspiciously, have the same symptoms of a toast mobo. If parts you know work aren't working in that mobo and you've tested everything to see if they're all seated and still not getting any beep, definitely a...

new computer turns on but thats all...

Didn't know that board had integrated. What I'd do is unplug the machine, wait a min, then unplug everything inside and reseat the memory and plug everything back in. If that doesn't work, maybe test it with different RAM. If it beeps, the hardware should be good.

    Hardware Issue?

FAT = file allocation tables. It's the file format windows uses to store and give addresses to info, I believe. Basically, everyone's saying that one of your hard disks is malfunctioning. I've had a hard drive fail on me once, while running 2, not in RAID. Wasn't so bad... just unplugged...

    My new AMD rig

My instinct/paranoia tells me that the hard drive seems to be in a tight spot. At 7200 RPM, that might be burning up without proper cooling. *thinks of the 8+ hr file sharing activities*

    Mixing PC3200 with PC4200 DDR2 RAM

I must be a total newb, 'cause I don't understand timings at all, except that lower is better. The limit of what I know is that RAM bandwidth is ultimately controlled by the processor's FSB. Also, I thought that having more RAM was better than having faster RAM, price vs performance wise...

    Mixing PC3200 with PC4200 DDR2 RAM

Simply put, I caught the Dell Dimension 8400 deal yesterday. I didn't think the upgrade from 2x256MB to 2x512 ($70 or so) was a good deal, as I knew RAM prices were dropping, but I still want at least 1GB. So, I go to Pricegrabber and there's hardly any DDR2 RAM at PC3200. The P4 has a FSB of...

those of you who have upgraded from 512 to 1gb memory

At 512MB, WoW was extremely choppy and I couldn't alt+tab to surf forums, e-mail, etc without some major wait times. At 1536MB, WoW is extremely smooth. Only 1 hiccup instance a session at most, so far. Also, I can play in windowed mode and alt+tab to other apps instantly. Eliminates the...

Poll: Most preferred LCD Brand: Dell

I'm partial to LG products. Seen them for the first time in England, by buying one of their TVs. Then seen their CD/DVD drives and bought one. Then seen their LCD. Never been disapointed. Solid pieces of engineering. Voting for the missing LG slot. Had a Dell UltraSharp 17". It developed...
