The clock on my computer is going faster and faster each day. I think I read somewhere that that happens when the onboard battery starts to run out of steam. Can I just change the battery to fix this? Do I have to do anything else to protect my bios settings? Thanks for any information.
MrChad:
I have been to the threads you mention and have had no luck doing what it says there in my Thunderbird email client. I found a service at the help center for Tbird that says it can talk in both pop3 and http, but their site is very smoky and requires signing up for a service without...
I recently switched from Charter cable to Qwest DSL. Now I find that Qwest is married to the MSN mail server for free mail. I have a lot of historic stuff in my old mail including paid bills etc. I can't use the new mail server to get them and I can't move my address book because my old server...
I have been having a lot of trouble with the high speed internet serviee of the TV cable and so I'm going back to my DSL service with the phone company (Qwest). Can anyone recommend a good reliable DSL modem. I have two computers networked via a Netgear RP614 v3 router. Thanks
Sorry, I didn't know there was such a thing as line strength. Can I request the cable Co. to give me the numbers. I'm afraid they will use some excuse to charge me for coming to my place.

I am having a problem with periods when my Linksys cable modem loses its connection to the internet. It is a model BEFCMU10 with USB and ethernet connections. I am using Charter cable as my service provider and Mozilla Firefox/Thunderbird ISP. I have Windows XP home on my computer and I have...
I have tried rarely to post to Anandtech forums. But rather than help I have gotton "you should have knwn better" responses--even insults about my name. I had tried to contribute so others might not make the same mistakes I did, but found that the experienced posters were offended by what I...
I'm sure that I use all the ink up printing pages, not cleaning heads. All the cartridges have suggested replacement at least once since I purchased the printer. I download a lot of stuff that I want to study/record (such as receipts). The CLI 8BK has run out once and is currently reporting...
I don't have a dvd burner but I got burned making cd backup images of my HD. About the 7th disk of a set was defective and when my system crashed and I had to format the HD, the backup wasn't there. What a pain. But I was using junk disks that I got practically for free at Staples or Office...
I recently bought a Canon ip5200 printer thinking that Canon had bigger and cheaper refills than my old Lexmark. How wrong I was! The refills are only available from Canon and cost about 15 bucks each for a total of $65 for a complete refill. I thought the fact that the black came in two...
Gentlemen, if you want to educate yourselves about speaker wire, I suggest you get to the numerous sites for audiophiles and do some searching for the physics of transmitting high frequencies and low over the same wire. The Size of the wire controls the energy lost per foot when direct current...
I am not saying that you need Monster cable to get good speaker performance. What I want to emphasize is that there are electric codes about what you can attach permanently to a nouse. If you or your folks own a home it will probably need an inspection to get financing. They may make you...
I found rolls of monster wire at Fry's. 100 ft. of XP-CI CL3 rated was $80. If you are pulling wire through walls there is a code covering that and you need CL3 rated wire to pass an electrical inspection.
I just tried to replace my Norton Ghost 2003 software since they are stopping all support as of today. I never had any luck with it. So I went to PC World reviews site and looked up backup software. There I found several with street prices under $50 that seemed to do the job ok with different...
:oI gave up and ordered Backupmycomputer only to read user reviews that said it was useless and no support at all. The reviews for Ghost 2003 are mostly favorable and say only you must read the manual. I guess I'm too dumb to find the magic key there. I'll just have to give up the idea of...
I found my disk but I have the same problems. I am now thinking that it is caused by using a file name that exceeds the 9 character limet for DOS. I am using a nsme of "Ghost Backup 5-29-06". That is how the file was named on the one backup that worked but I think that there must be a...
I tried to find those files but couldn't. I tried deleting the Ghost 2003 feature from my Norton SystemWorks files and did get rid of my existing program. I intended to reinstall from my Systemworks disk but, don't you know, I have lost the disk. Looks like I'll have to start the whole thing...
I tried by eliminating OTHER BOOT DEVCES but that didn't work. Same problem. When I'm booting I get as far as the drivers for firewire and USB and the thing hangs. When I tried to use the advanced feature of running ghost interactively from DOS, it went one line further and hung but I could...
I have been struggling to backup my HD to my external hard drive (connected via USB2) I did it successfully back in February but now I have forgotten the fix for the hangups during boots. I tried to boot from the floppy I made to boot in MS DOS mode but that hangs too. Anyone know how to...
I have Systemworks 2003 and I upgraded the virus ID's a couple of times. This year I got a message that Symantec was no longer supporting the virus upgrades so I had to purchase the Antivirus 2005 to keep using Norton. My computer crashed and I did a reinstall and, guess what, I got another...
I posted this topic in periferals and got only one reply. I don't know how to move a post so here it goes. I just decided to go from telephone DSL to cable for broadband. I purchased a LinkSys cable modem with inlets for both USB and ethernet, but as I understand it only one computer can use...
:confused:I just decided to switch from telephone DSL to a cable network for high speed internet. I got a good deal on a Linksys cable modem at Newegg ($39.95) but even though it has both an ethernet connector and a USB connector, I understand that I can't hook both my wife's computer and mine...
:roll:I have waited to respond to this thread until I could test the longevity and quality of shave on one. I got the vibrator model and found I could get the best shaves I have gotten in a long time. That lasted for 3 or 4 shaves and then the closeness deteriorated . The razor has a colored...
:osomemwhere around the office I have a little board that loads a power supply and tests the rails for voltage under normal loads. It has a row of leds that indicate the diagnosis. I can't tecall which vender was selling them but I don't think it was Newegg. Try to google your way there.
I had a posting problem related to the mb shorted by one of the attachment screws. Maybe you should remove as many as possible to lower the chance. I also once put the heatsink in backwards. Had to reverse it after unclipping. One problem just wouldn't solve and after getting a new cpu and...
I had a problem just like that with an msi K7N2 Delta 2 mb. I could get it to boot if I took the board out of the case and kept it insulated while attaching the cables. I thought it was shorting out but couldm't find where. So eventually I took the components to a computer store and the...
:D:music:I got it. I'm not sure how. I installed the NTBackup program from my Win XP disk to the hard drive and left the XP cd in the slot. This time I think I did the same thing that didn't work before but Ghost went ahead and made an image of my hd on the new usb drive. I used the Ghost...
Thanks RebateMonger. Are you saying that I need to use the XP disk to get this program? I have installed service pack 2 so that may be an issue. I think it may be the whole problem.
Thanks for the tips. I don't have the second computer on a network with the main one yet. It is my wife's and runs W 98SE. Do you have a download site for True Image, corkyg?
:confused:I bought a Maxtor Personal Storage drive that uses USB 2,0 and I'm trying to use Norton Ghost 2003 to make an image backup of my 80 Gig Hard drive. I run on WXP home edition. The new drive is FAT32 I believe, and the old one is NTFS. I'm making some kind of mistake during the setup...
Zepper:
I don't know what PM is so I'm using this reply to enquire about the stash of Cannon P4000's you saw. Depending on price I might be interested in tossing my Lexmark.
Thanks
:| I just tried to tefill the cartridges on my Lexmark Z52 with an IMS Refill System I purchased at Costco. The black worked fine, but the colors won't even try to print after refilling. They were not completely dry when I refilled them and a pad of paper napkins sops up copious ink from the...
I have a DSL router that accepts a usb cable from my wife's computer and an ethernet cable from mine (the DFI). Hers runs W98 SE and mine is XP home. She has faster memory (but cheaper). I got Mushkin matched pair top of the line at pc 2700 because someone on a bulletin board recommended that...
