    Two Mobo, One Power Supply?

Howdy - I'm putting together a "stack" computer to work on grid.org and some other distributed computing projects. I have (or will soon have) 8 microATX motherboards (ASRock K7S41) with AMD XP-M 2400+ procs, overclocked to around 2.3Ghz. They will be mounted caseless, so I'm trying to solve...

    ASRock K7S41 and XP-M 2400+ Woes

I'm building "critters" for a Grid.org stack, and the route I've opted to take is an OC'd XP-M 2400+ on a microATX board. I ended up going with the ASRock K7S41 because it had OC features either by jumper or in-BIOS, and sure enough, some of those features are there. Trouble is: a) when I...

    Silly question

Thanks much! 5700LE on the way. And yes, three LCDs is nice ... though I find that I keep misplacing my pointer, plus you often have modal dialogs popping up somewhere else and assuming an app has locked ... I'm sure you'll have a pity party for me now ... ;) Thanks again! Jeff

    Silly question

I succumbed to flat panel demons finally - three 2001FPs now grace my desk, and they are lovely ... except for one of them. I have a x800 Pro and a 9200 PCI - so there are two monitors with DVIs - but the third - the second monitor off of the x800 - is VGA and I'm hating it. I don't think I...

    Firewire mobo header-to-6pin plug adapater?

Just that - an adapter that allows you to rig the six separate female wires hooked up to the front case Firewire ports on a Sonata to an internal Firewire port (also female) on a PCI card. My mobo doesn't have header pins, and I've found such adapaters for USB, but none for Firewire for some...

    Godawful DigiDoc beeping

So, I'm currently using a DigiDoc3 to drive four case fans. What I WANT is for the fans to silently and happily come on when the various sensors hit particular trigger points, then turn off again once the temps are back down. And that happens, too -- ALONG WITH THAT GODAWFUL BEEPING. I don't...

What's the best digital photo album software out there?

Both of these look great -- thanks! CompuPic Pro in particular has a nice-looking CD-ROM creation software that seemed to fit my exact needs -- "So easy, even your mother can use it!" Took the words out of my mouth ... I've also tried FlipAlbum, but I find it pretty suboptimal -- the...

Plop: 3DMark2000 around 4700, why so darn slow?

Just that: I ran 3DMark 2000 on my new system (running Windows 2000 Server), and I came up with 4700. My hardware is available in my rig listing (follow the link below, "My First OC'd Box") -- but basically it's a dual proc PIII 700@1030Mhz, Hercules Prophet II 3D (or whatever they...

What's the best digital photo album software out there?

I just received my digital camera for Xmas, and so far I'm using Canon's ZoomBrowser to organize pics on my harddrive (surprisingly sweet little app, for a bundled freebie). Now I'm looking to start burning pics into a photo album, on a CD ... but I don't know what my options are here. Software...

For those who missed the 12x10x32 CD-R/RW at Compusa, they have the zip 12x4x32 (with BurnProof) for $129.99 (may be for $99)

Mathwiz -- I ran WinFlash, pointed it at the .bin image, and presto, worked like a champ. I'm using Win2K Server, no issues so far (other than DirectCD, which is as hosed as it was before the flash).

Tweekah -- when you say you "cannot flash under Win2K", what do you mean? I flashed to 3.27 just fine under Win2K Server -- no error messages, and the drive works fine (well, as fine as it did -- DirectCD is still giving me fits).

    Dual monitor issues

Hawk -- that's a lot better, at least. I matched them both at 60hz (blech - crappy old 15"), and now there's just one wave front that slowly scrolls up the screen every few seconds. This effect, as you note, seems to affect the entire screen, not just the side closest to the other monitor...

    Dual monitor issues

Very timely post, from my perspective: I just hooked up a 2nd monitor to my 2nd video card, and I'm having issues and question, too. My setup: 21" Hitachi driven by Hercules GeForce Pro 64MB, and a 15" driven by a RAGE 128 GL PCI 16MB. The 15" monitor is a new used monitor, and...

Sorry, FAQ: where is the video card OC FAQ?

So I shouldn't use the Hercules drivers, from their Web site -- I should instead use NVidia ref drivers? Hmm ... will that increase my stability or performance as well, or just make it easier to tweak?

Sorry, FAQ: where is the video card OC FAQ?

Hmm ... so I've been there before, and didn't find that much to answer my question. So perhaps it would be useful to ask a more specific question, eh? :o I have a Hercules Prophet 3D Pro with 64MB of RAM. It comes with the Hercules Tweaker -- but it's crappy little interface leaves me unsure...

Sorry, FAQ: where is the video card OC FAQ?

I recall hearing about an article that contained a bunch of FAQs for neophyte video card overclockers -- where is it? (apologies, I HAVE been searching for it ... :)

Newbie question: when do I adjust voltage?

OR maybe I could set the BIOS setting to "Try AGP first" for video init -- perhaps that could do the trick?

Newbie question: when do I adjust voltage?

Full specs: MSI 694D-AR (ATA/100 & RAID) Dual PIII 700/1030 (FSB 147, PCI 37, overvolt +.05V) 1x256MB Mushkin DIMM PC133 rev 2 2x30.7GB Maxtor HD, in RAID 0 array Hercules Prophet Pro 64MB some other stuff Upping the voltage didn't do a thing -- I ran the CPUs (individually at first, since...

Newbie question: when do I adjust voltage?

I have dual PIII700s running on an MSI 694D-AR. They handle 933, 966, and 1002Mhz just fine -- Sandra's CPU benchmark or games can't seem to get the temp over 39C. No instabilitities ... but when I jump to 151 (or 2, can't remember) FSB, the system won't even POST. The DLEDs say it's hung at...

FAQ, I'm sure: How hot is too hot?

I'm running dual PIII 700's on an MSI board. At stock 700Mhz (with Alpha 6035s and a Sunon and Sanyo Denki CPU fan), she averages about 28C per CPU. At 868, average on SiSoft CPU benchmark is around 34. 933 isn't much higher than that. When should I start getting nervous? When should I pause...

    Dual proc cooling

Howdy - I'm planning to pick up an MSI 694D dual Socket 370 mobo, and populate it with twin PIII 700s, since I've heard that they overclock the purdiest. Cooling question: if I'm gunning for 933 for each, do you think I'm likely to need more than just, say, two Alphas or Orbs? I've looked at...

    Newbie question: OC and SMP

I'm planning to get the MSI dual Socket 370 board, and (eventually) two PIII 933s. So the questions are: - CAN OC work, in general, in an SMP/dual environment? - can the PIII 933's, in particular, be OC'd? - where can I find out what additional PIIIs (1 Gig, and maybe 1.13 if they ever come out...
