Computer won't wake up from "sleep"

thanks swampmaster, I didn't know that about the slower IDE drive causing issues. I did, however, realize that my 4Gb's is pretty much "wasted" on my 32bit system. I am still hoping to upgrade to 64bit someday..

Computer won't wake up from "sleep"

interesting update: I tried to think of any computer changes that I had made recently which could have caused this weird anomaly. I had recently installed a Logitech Quick Cam and let windows install the necessary related software. Un-plugging the USB input from my USB hub and...

Computer won't wake up from "sleep"

i've considered the power supply (it's a bit overworked for whats in my system). I have a spare power supply that I have been meaning to wire in. Another thought. On the same IDE cable is an NEC DVD burner that is set to "cable select". The suspect IDE drive is set to "master". Both of...

Computer won't wake up from "sleep"

I do actually have SMART enabled and the temperatures have normally read fine. I'm assuming that the drive has gone south, but I'd like to hear a few other people's comments before I splurge on the 300Gb Raptor! It is strange though how the drive acts perfectly fine when I'm at the...

What card from ATI is equivalent to an EN8500GT?

seems like most new cards offered from ATI utilize surroundview it allows you to have more than the standard 2 monitors active when using a PCI video card...

What card from ATI is equivalent to an EN8500GT?

I just installed a new mobo that has HDMI onboard. I had initially intended on hooking up my LCD TV to this mobo's onboard HDMI and then using a video card to get signals to my dual LCD monitors. Well it turns out the only easy way to get 3 displays present while using this mobo is to use...

    I just screwed myself prett bad...didn't I?

Blunc, I forgot to mention, but Yes, I have tried to boot into safe mode. It loads the safe-mode drivers and then a few seconds later BSOD's. Gonna try the external enclosure route tonight along with the UBCD and see if it works all my data is backed up (more or less) so i'm not too...

prodigy, that was exactly what I was planning on doing unless the HD has fatally borked I should assume that all of my data is still there, right?

    I just screwed myself prett bad...didn't I?

thanks for the advice everyone thankfully, I do have all of this information backed up. It just sucks that I'll be losing a lot of my good programs and all of my custom settings. I will give the UBCD a try tonight and hopefully that works. I was also told to just stick the borked main...

    I just screwed myself prett bad...didn't I?

Okay, I figured myself to be somewhat computer competent over the years but I guess I was way wrong. I was in the process of taking all my good hardware out of my main rig and installing it into a new HTPC (which would soon become my one and only computer). At this point I had been using...

Question about Gigabyte GA-MA78G-DS3H and HDMI Output

Hi everyone, I am considering purchasing this mobo to go with my AMD 4800+ CPU. I plan on using the onboard HDMI output to a hi-def (1080p) Samsung LCD. I will use the single PCI-E (x16) slot for my main video card (ASUS EN8500GT) to control my two computer monitors. Will the onboard...

    Two video cards, one motherboard?

Thanks Citan. You pointed out something which I probably should have stated earlier. I won't necessarily be running all three monitors at the same time (the TV will only be used exclusively for hi-def movies). That being said I think using onboard mobo HDMI would be most beneficial (and the...

    Two video cards, one motherboard?

thanks Taltamir, I didn't realize that the plug was actually component out. I will have to check and see if I have that plug. Can a single video card run all 3 monitors at full resolution though?

    Two video cards, one motherboard?

ViRGE, Are you familiar with mobo's that have onboard video output (HDMI)? I see a few mobo's on newegg that have HDMI out. I could use that with a video card to drive my dual monitors right?

    Two video cards, one motherboard?

XP Pro if I had a pair of the same cards this would work then? Let me rephrase my original question. How can I cheaply & effectively use two video cards on one motherboard to drive three large monitors?

    Two video cards, one motherboard?

umm...the video card that I have does not have component out. Both video cards are sort've "old" and nowhere near top of the line. They both only have a VGA and a DVI output. They are both PCI Express 16 Is there a way to use both of them so that all three monitors are in use?

    webcam software for chatting

Upgraded HTPC with all new components...now BSOD

I updated my dated Pentium IV HTPC for a modern AMD 4800+ (AM2) rig which meant new mobo/CPU/VidCard/Ram. I managed to hook everything up and get it all to turn on by the first try (which was exciting as usually I deal with a few days of beeps and then nothing). But!! When I boot from...

Lets go back in time; help me choose a video card

well I spoke with HP support and they said that the maximum supported CPU is only 2.53GHz. They couldn't explain why this limit was imposed. There is no BIOS update available. If the video card doesn't work I may try to upgrade but it seems like only a small jump in speed.

Lets go back in time; help me choose a video card

As you can tell this is why I'm trying to go the simple route of a cheap vid card and see if that solves my problems. Rather than take my chance with an older CPU architecture on a mobo that may not support it. This way if the video card doesn't help then I'll just sell it for a loss and...

Lets go back in time; help me choose a video card

Lets go back in time; help me choose a video card

Modular, the computer is an OEM (HP 762n Specs) Would that specs be okay for 720p playback (not looking for 1080p). I promise I have tried every software solution presented and nothing was able to reduce the problem. The frame drops are very slight and I don't want to have to upgrade...

Lets go back in time; help me choose a video card

damn, i keep getting told different things. They don't even make a 6600GT AGP that I can find in my price range. Do you really think that upgrading to one of the cards that I mentioned will have no effect? I was told that most of HD decoding is done via the processor, so how much impact does...

Lets go back in time; help me choose a video card

Okay heres my situation. I currently have a Pentium 4 system with 512Mb of RAM on an AGP mobo, but it bogs down just slightly when playing my .mkv encoded 720p movies onto my TV. Instead of replacing the whole system with a better mobo/cpu/ram I'd like to try getting a better video card...
