The Core 2 Duo/AMD AM2 'Real World Performance' Fiasco

The FX-62 is much cheaper at the moment: it costs $1000, and the E6600 costs what might as well be an infinite amount- it is unavailable, and as I recall it will be until the 23rd. When it *is* available, and AMD has cut their prices, you can then compare prices.

    Why do some LCD HDTV's have a resolution of 1366 x 768?

I would imagine it's 768 because the standard 4:3 resolution for computer monitors was, for the longest time, 1024x768. I'm going to take a wild guess and say that they wanted to keep the height of the monitors identical for either software or manufactuaring reasons.

Dell goes AMD- the real deal?

I wonder if it would be worth it for AMD to contract out a Dell order to Chartered or TSMC or something. Or, we could combine two pie-in-the-sky rumours and guess that AMD will buy out ATi and use their capacity. It all fits... (well, except that ATI doesn't really have a bunch of 90nm habs...

Dell goes AMD- the real deal?

Dell goes AMD- the real deal?

It's about 5 hours old :) This is for laptops and desktops, not just 4-way servers. That's not what the article seems to imply- it sounds like this was signed some time ago, and news is only leaking out now. I find it hard to believe as well- I don't know what orifice AMD could pull...

Dell goes AMD- the real deal?

http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=32628 According to the Inq, dell will have a full line of AMD desktops and laptops for the back to school season. You think this is the real deal, or the Inquirer making up stories again?

The Ram Question: 40MHZ or .5 less CAS Latency

Umm...why not try all three? It's not like it takes a long time. Run SuperPi 1M, change clocks with A64Tweaker, run SuperPi 1M. Wash, rinse, repeat as desired. Should take under 5 minutes. Whichever gives you a better time, keep it.

    Trick question

How is it that my memory can run fine at 258Mhz, 1:1, and crash at 250, with the FSB at 300 and a 5:6 divider? Is it my CPU or my motherboard, or something else I don't even suspect? Multiplier is 10x, timings are identical. System specs are as follows: Opty 146 OCZ VX (Original...

    Veteren Watercooling Gurus....

mdchesne: Like I said above, your best bet is probably to use the radbox, and hang your rad off the back of your case. No modding, no 80mm fans, no fuss. Uhtrinity: You're quite right, that's better than stock cooling, but for an extra ~$50, you can get a system with much better blocks, a...

    Veteren Watercooling Gurus....

The kingwin kit is barely better than aircooling. There is no kit with the Storm and the Fusion- they're made by different companies. You have to get them seperately. Some of the major WC retailers are: cool-cases-usa, frostytech, shakra, jabtech, newegg...check the retailers' websites...

    Veteren Watercooling Gurus....

I'm hardly an wizened guru, but I can still help you out ;) Pump: Either the MCP-350 or a Danner Mag. Either are small enough to fit just about anywhere, and the 350 can be modded to perform almost as well as the 650. You might even be able to squeeze an MCP-655 in your case, but it'd be...

    need cheap 7800gt h2o block

I think the cheapest you can get, besides the Thermaltake and Evercool garbage, is this one, which should perform about the same as the Maze4, and is also available in black delrin. You just have to make sure it fits between your SLI cards. If you're using a DFI Expert or an Asus motherboard...

    Name that socket!

Since it's a Dell, it must be Intel Since it's inexpensive, it's 99.9% likely to be a S478, unless it's >3 years old, in which case it might be a P3. My money is on S478

Where do *you* buy your PCs?

Built them myself, 100%, since I was 12 :) Get most of my components from small Brick & Mortar shops around here. Mom and pop shops + intense competition = much better prices than online, and none of this shipping garbage.

PSU: EPS Connector to PCI-E mod?

The physical connectors are the same, but the wiring is a bit different (EPS vs PCI-E). It looks like all you have to do to make the EPS connector into a PCI-E connector is to move the 12v lines around, get rid of the 3.3v lines, and add one more ground. Is there any reason that this mod...

I refuse to buy overpriced Kits

You need to look at the pump head before you buy. Even the most powerful Swiftech pumps can only shove water about 15 feet straight up. If you're going to run it down under your yard, you're going to need 2-3 pond pumps in series, or some kind of monster.

    Help with memory problem

When you are only using one stick, do you always put that one stick in the same slot, or have you tried putting one stick into different slots? It sounds like either a mobo problem or a RAM problem, and if you can use one stick in any slot, I'd say ram. If you could memtest it on someone...

    Hardware failure?

    A) I don't have any USB devices plugged in and the BSOD does not occur when I shut down the computer B) None of the advice on the KB is relevant except the suggestion to install SP2, which is not possible; it crashes windows. See the two posts above yours. And give me some credit, man- I...

    Hardware failure?

Pretty sure it's not software related- I did a complete reinstall of Windows, redid every driver. Neither Gentoo nor Ubunto liveCDs work. As far as I can tell, all the BSODs I'm getting pertain to IRQ errors of one sort or another, and the solution in the KB is just to remove the last...

System Crashes in Battlefield 2 and America's Army

    Leadtek 6800 vs MSI 6800

The leadtek may actually be slower- they have a "lite" version that has slower memory and overclocks poorly. I would definately fire off an email to confirm.
