Reverse Osmosis (& others) supposedly cannot remove any Fluoride. Really?

You are talking absolute rubbish. HF is more reactive than HCL. Florine is more electronegative (infact the most electronegative thing going). You are true that Francium is more reactive than Lithium. However for atoms which have negative valances the opposite is true florine is more reactive...

Anyone ever had their appendix removed?

If they billed you for that MRI then you where ripped off. An MRI for an appendix is bad medicine. Unless you appendix is in a realy weird place it isnt that hard to work out if you have it or not. An MRI is just technology making up for a bad doctor.

    Building a bridge...sorta.

The moment of inertia is king in this situation. For a given mass the one with the largest moment of inertia in the axis it lies in will perform the best. So basically largest moment of inertia possible and the stuff with the largest youngs modulous you can find that will take the load...

    Help with Sentence

Either "The mission : to break into the ...." or "The mission was/is ...." there is something called a verb. Same with your title Help with a sentence would make more sense. Especially as capatalising sentence makes it sound like a propper noun. In other words there are more than one...

Any countries gonna step up and help the US?

Well since the US has only just started accepting help today. No contries could help untill the US asked. What would have helped prevent this is planning before hand. Its not as if its never been on the cards that this could happen. The Superdome was never designed or equipped to be a shelter...

    Camera Red Eye

The red eye effect is a test used in medicine to check the health of the eye. Everyone should produce a red eye "responce" when a light is shone straight into the eye. If this is absent it indicates serious eye disease such as glaucoma. Why some people might not show it could be due to the angle...

    Synthetic Hydrocarbons

To make totaly synthetic hydrocarbons you would need to make methane out of something (cannot remember how) and then add carbons to the chain. The main problem would be if you want an arene ring then I am not sure. Basically everything is possible the main problems is the yeilds.

Further proof we must always stand vigilant to protect out freedom

In the UK we had an incident where a bloke went into a school and started shooting. Due to a large national uproar e.t.c and the fact that we dont feel it is our sacred right to own a gun hand guns where outlawed. Now pretty much only farmers and game keepers can own a gun which is fine by me as...

    Any new File Systems?

WinFS was basically NTFS + an SQL data base. It would have been slow and pretty pointless. Reiser 4 with other searching programs you can get for linux would far excede WinFS's feature set. (Just as OSX and Xorg have both surpassed (or are about to) what Avalon is supposed to bring).

    Any new File Systems?

Well Linux supports tons of the things. But look up Reiser 4. Its a fully atomic FS (i.e. an operation either totaly happens or not at all even if you turn the power off half way though).

TCP/IP vs. FireWire, USB2, and other interfaces

OK if the pc acted as a router that would require another layer of programming. You say a NIC is cheap $30 but a USB controller is about $8 for a company to implement. Take a mouse it will have a USB controller imbeded into its microcontroller and the SUB will have 4 pins on the packaging. a MAC...

TCP/IP vs. FireWire, USB2, and other interfaces

A few things: You cannot produce drivers easily for a ethernet based joystick. And who would use it? It would be accessible to anyone on the network. Some times the hastle of producing more programming to work around problems such as the one I just shown is not worth it. Also ethernet cost...

High precision timing on a PC.

The most elegant solution to this woudl be to use a microcontroller to grab the data off the CCD and the forward it to the PC. This way you can accuratly (down to the clock cycles) grab data at the correct.

    Building a robot(UPDATED)

VHDL Synthesis: How do i speed my design up?

Any chance of giving us more info where this problem is? is it a delay from the fetch to accessing the ram? or is it an internal fetch problem? It does seem realy odd that the routing delay is much larger than your logic delay.

    CPU caching scemes...

Exclusive is more cache efficent (as you dont have the L1 cache repeated in the L2 cache) However to make the cache exclusive uses up alot of transistors and transistors = money. So basically it is a trade off bettween the hit you get if you hvae the effective reduction of cache due to the...

Check your egos at the door! Real-time audio streaming via ethernet.

Audio usually is at 24ish Khz. No reason to sample faster than 50khz with audio (lets say 100khz) if you have noticable increased latency through a switch because its busy you are using the wrong switch. Same goes for packet loss. I dont see huge problems but as most sound systems use...

    PSB, FSB, Memory, Hyperthreading, Hypertransport,

Hypertransport is a point to point data link. It is like the FSB on a P4. It transports data from the northbridge to the CPU. AMD just use a non propriety bus so they can put things like PCI-E/X busses directly on the link as well as AGP devices without the need for proprietry glue logic.
