gaming PC + ultracheap laptop
That's the system that I use here at college and it works great. Most people don't realize it, but it's cheaper for the same performance than one system.
i.e. ~$500 laptop for class + $1200 OC'd desktop (top end) will be much faster than a $1,700 gaming...
She wants to sell her system and asked me how much it was worth. I have a good idea, but I wanted to get some other opinions. Thanks in advance for your input.
Basic specs:
p4@2.6
256mb ram
80gb hard drive
integrated graphics
Ideas?
You said that the card felt very hot to the touch. I'm wondering if the artifacts/crashes that you're seeing are the result of overheating. Try using a program to underclock it (Powerstrip works for this and is free to try). Just don't change the gpu core clock in large increments at a time...
Tyler Durden: It could be worse. A woman could cut off your penis while you're sleeping and toss it out the window of a moving car.
Narrator: There's always that.

Biologically, that phenomenon is known as "positive assortative mating". There can be evolutionary selection for it if a more homozygous (2 copies of the same gene type (allele), as opposed to two different alleles) condition is favored. "Negative assortative mating, where individuals are more...
Me too, though I've had one girlfriend that I thought was a real prospect. After 1 1/2 months she came out of nowhere and dumped me. I was pretty messed up for at least half a year. In the 2 months after we split up I lost 10 pounds, which is a lot for me (6'0", 140lb). Other than that I've...
I've been researching these tonight. That Biostar looks good for the money and will take you to that OC level easily I think. If you don't need the onboard video, this Asus linked below is a little cheaper and got a lot better reviews. It seems to consistently hit the higher overclocks too (300...
Thanks for the suggestions. Unfortunately the reviews for that board say it doesn't like value ram, and that's exactly what I'll be putting in it. Here's another I was looking at:

I am thinking about picking up an Opteron 146 (2.0 GHz) in order to OC it to at least 2.8, hopefully. As such I need a board that can take me at least to 280 MHz fsb. I've searched high and low but can't find one that gets to this range in 939 for less that 100 bucks (I just need OC stability...
I've had the HD 280's for a couple of years now and I really like them for the price. They're definitely a little bulky, but that's what makes them so good at blocking out ambient noise. The 3 meter cord is nice too. The sound quality's definitely better than my $200 Logitech THX speakers. Not...
I have a home-built system in a budget case. A while back the little plastic piece in the front usb port that keeps a usb cable from being inserted the wrong way fell out so that it was just the bare interconnects. Unfortunately I forgot about this and inserted a usb cable the wrong way (like an...
Lol. Give it a couple amps and it'll brown out your neighborhood. Besides, I'm pretty sure there aren't any residential sockets rated in the ~200 MW category :-P
Why do they still make PS2 keyboards when they stopped with mice years ago? I need a USB interface for my laptop, but the plug and play capability makes it worthwhile in general.
The deal seems to be back and better yet @ 244 now here.. I need a little help though. Can't get the first code to work. Does that mean it's been used up (400 uses)?
Wait a minute. FF VII AC is out?!? How come I never heard about this? I've been waiting for it since I saw the E3 teaser 2 years ago. Where can you see/buy it?
I got in on this deal when there was the free turion upgrade too. I have to disagree on the battery life. I upgraded to the 12 cell battery though, but it lasts me about 4 hours (though I haven't tested it yet). With my extra 12 cell I can get about 8 hours. Not bad if you ask me. I'm quite...
I'm not sure, but I'll tell you when mine comes. I wanted to know too, but I just decided to pick up a refurbed 512 so-dimm of pc3200 since it was only $43 at Newegg. The slower stuff wasn't any cheaper. CAS 2.5 too. Maybe if the laptop only runs at 2700 I'll be able to get it down to CAS 2...
Jeez. Stupid lack of Fry's in West Michigan. I constantly have to put up with these sweet deals going to waste for lack of a store. I guess I'll pick it up from Amazon.
Heh. I came to let you guys know about this one, but there was already a post. Best deal I've ever seen on a laptop. It was a sweet deal before the $100 rebate on the 64 bit upgrade. For some reason they just didn't have that in the flier. Anyways, I'm going in tomorrow to pick one up for me and...
Man, I hate CompUSA's rebates. They just denied mine saying I applied late when it was over a week early. I've heard of others having problems too. Just a warning. Still, I think I might look into this with the Walmart thing. 160 for 20 is just too good.
LeeM:
Do you think I'd be able to pick that catalog up in the store? I'd really like to price match it. Could you post a scan of the page or something?
So... The rebates are for the PATA version of the drive, right? Because the Walmart link is to the SATA version. Anybody know if it matters? I'd take the SATA if I could.
Just to clarify: RAM that says it is dual channel is exactly the same as any other DDR RAM. It's just been verified to be compatible for dual channel mode if that is supported by the memory controller. It's the same as DDR400 working fine at DDR333 speeds. Same stuff, just guaranteed to be...
