I have the ASUS 4850 but only installed the Catalyst base drivers because I don't want all that CCC crap. BUt once I discovered the heat issues I installed CCC and SmartDoctor and yet it still wants me to install GamerOSD! wtf. Anybody know what this garbage is? Does it put a bunch of crap in my...
That's exactly what it was--the audio device.
Fortunately, ASUS was kind enough to put the driver on the CD so that it can be installed without all the other nonsense. In fact, if you "Explore" the CD you can pick and choose the drivers you want and leave out the crap. I ended up downloading...
So I just installed the ASUS 4850 and the stutter in Gears of War with my 8800GT is gone!
However, I chose to install the latest "base" Catalyst drivers from ATI, without the Control Center stuff, and WIndows XP keeps detecting an unknown PCI Device. Any ideas? I'm thinking it's the HDTV...
OK, I'll be the first with the obligatory "is this better than my [insert older video card here]" question. I currently have a 7900GS (that's not really that old!).... Of course I know it's "better" but how much of a performance increase can I expect?
I wish Tom's would hurry up with a...
I applied this morning and it took only a few hours to process. So you should hear sooner, unless it requires LIVE HUMANS which means they'll have to have people working weekends to complete the process....
I do the same thing in the computer department. Once the BB salesman is done and moves off, I hand the shopper my biz card (computer services) and give them the correct info.
Back OT: I stopped at CompUSA today and frowned at the HUGE 5-10% off savings. I'll go back when they get serious...
Nice deal and almost jumped but since I would need this while driving, I think the screen will be too small to read. Great for hand-held city travelers, though.

Oddly, they make it seem like this is a pre-order for the new Zune....
Just got mine. Despite the "refurbished" sticker it looks brand spanking new. Not a single blemish on it.
I opted to download the Zune software instead of using the CD. Everything installed fine on my Vista Premium HP Pavilion lappy but it took about 10 minutes for the software to discover...
I've been looking at either a Zune, Zen, or iPod. The big advantage so far of the iPod is simply the sheer number of accessories, particularly all the nice docking stations. Although this is fantastic deal I just can't pull that trigger! Please, someone help... :(
Good timing for my Sept. kayak trip in Maine. So I'm in for one Capiline 3 base layer top! Gonna be nice and cozy despite the chilly coastal winds... Thanks OP!
Anybody else getting EventID 51 errors in "System" events? It says "An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk0\D during a paging operation." A quick look at EventID.net suggests it may be a bad nForce SATA driver....
Not anymore. AOL switched to a McAfee system. Still free, though...
As for NOD32 vs KAV. I've been reselling KAV for about a year and although it's VERY good at what it does, it requires more resources than NOD32. I don't put it on systems with less than 512MB RAM and a 2Ghz CPU.
UPS just delivered it so first thing I did was take a peak under the hood.
The disk is a Western Digital Caviar SE, model #WD5000AAJB. According to Newegg this model is 7200RPM, ATA-100, w/8MB cache. Not the fastest disk in the world but Newegg has it listed for $109 (just the OEM WD disk...
