I believe since you do have a stable network, the problem lies in the host computer using ME. I would try switching them up..make the laptop the host..that way XP is handling the network.

I had a similar problem with my connection through SBC DSL. I network using Netgear and it would connect and all of a sudden dump. SBC told me that it was because they broadcast a dynamic IP and for the connection to work with my router I need a Static IP.

You could always use spyware. AV should pick it up. Then when you are done...you can clean the system. But if you really wanna use viruses....you are gonna have to dig very deep and look for underground sites the share viruses. These sites usually offer misc. hacktools. But good luck...
Since SP2 I have thought over and over again whether the new and improved Windows Firewall will undoubtedly replace the pricey store bought firewall. Would it be necessary to renew the subscription?
I can't really telll any difference in load times between IE and Firefox. The only problem I have with Firefox is that it doesn't load my journal's images properly, but it's not a huge deal. One of my favorite things about Mozilla (Firefox) is the Chatzilla plugin.
My girlfriend had a problem with sp2 on her laptop. After the install, he laptop had trouble shutting down, and several programs became corrupted. However on my desktop I haven't had any problems at all.
