Either you havent had your A8N-SLI long enough, or you got lucky. After a few weeks of running that thing (I dont shut down at night, so it runs constantly) it will get lots of dust in there and will start making terrible noises. Also if you monitor the fan speed it will slow from the 8000 RPM...
I got the zalman heatsink on no problems the 2nd time (after RMAing my 2nd board, so i'm on my 3rd one now) with just my bare hands. I squeezed the pins together then pushed the out through the holes. One of the two actually broke, but no problems. I used Zalman's pins and they worked. It takes...
I cut them off because other people that have done this cut them off. Its the easiest and fastest way. Those pins are a pain to squeeze though the holes. And you don't have to use those ones, the Zalman comes with 2 pins that u can use that work, but as I said I would like some new ones. RMAing...
I've got a question about the zalman chipset heatsink. Does anyone know where to get replacement push pins that will fit this thing? Just taking them out once or twice seems to mutilate the ends of them. It still hold onto the motherboard but I would like to see about getting new pins. They are...
I can't prove that this works, but in the latest issue of Maximum PC they show off a computer built by some company (I'm not at home so I can't see what it is exactally) that used the A8N-SLI with 4 sticks of 512MB Corsair memory for a total of 2GB. So I guess it can work, but with this board...
Your problem sounds similar to mine, which was that after a week of using the thing I switched out my Allied 400w to an Enermax 495watt ATX ver. 2 with dual 12v rails and then the mobo wouldn't boot. I tried the PSU on another system, it wouldn't boot so obviously a bad PSU so I RMAed it. I...
I haven't test any of this because I don't have thousands of dollars to spend on a whim to test out a ton of crap, but from what I've read about this setup is that with two cards you can use up to 4 monitors (or are supposed to, I don't know if its supported right now or not). Or you can use the...
Oh, come to think of that I guess you are right. Except you DON'T want the heatsink "crushing" the chip cause then it breaks and it don't work and u get screwed. But like you said, you want pressure with the heatsink pressing against the chip, but not to the point it breaks.
I was under the impression that was what the thermal paste was for. That way you wouldnt crush the chipset, as it is right there on the top. The paste should make a direct connection with the chipset and the bottom of the heatsink allowing the maximum amount of heat to get sucked away from the...
What I did when I took the fan off to look at it was push the push-pin down with my finger, then use pliers to squeeze the back side together and then let it go into the hole. It didn't slide all the way through easily so I just pushed it through with the needlenose pliers and it came off that way.
Well gorman i've seen two specific links that show pics of them changing out that crappy chipset fan. This is the only one of 2 that I can find again: http://forums.overclockers.co.....php?threadid=17356286
Only problem might be with running dual 6800 ultra's, but I dont know for sure.
This is really annoying me cause I just wanted a really cool and new mobo with some advanced features THAT WORKED. Apparently I didn't try all the bios flashing methods or whatever that some people are saying. Have you tried pressing Alt and F2 as you turn on the computer or right after to see...
The weird thing with your psu is that its not on the Enermax website but everywhere sells it and reviews it so that was why I was having trouble finding it before. If yours works then my 480watt enermax should work just fine when I get it probably sometime this week.
I'm a little confused as to what psu you actually have becamse Enermax doesn't make a "475". They don't have any models with 475 in their name nor do they have any with 475 watts. Did you mean the EG495P-VE? I'm waiting on that power supply and would like to know if it's working good for you so...
While someone explains olternat's problem of how to flash the bios cause I haven't done it myself so I can't try it as I no longer have in my presence the A8N-SLI, I would like someone to tell me how to flash the bios when your computer won't post. I know user1234 told me to do that and I am...
When i get my replacement mobo from asus (however long that'll take), should I get the 1003 bios on there as fast as I can to prevent any power related problems I could run into?? I heard people saying it solves a lot of problems and I don't want to have to deal with a second dead board like my...
I got the TT silent boost k8. That thing kept my 3500+ at 30C and it is so freaking silent. The case fans and power fans were all louder then it, and not to mention that the chipset fan is amazingly LOUD at 8k RPMs.
I can't say this for everyone, but the first EG495P-VE I got from newegg was apparently DOA. It wouldn't power the A8N-SLI and might have even damaged it, but another user Cy6nUsX1 had great success with it and the same board. I am awaiting a replacement psu from newegg so I will update once I...
Can anyone tell me whether or not you have completed an RMA though Asus themselves. I have no choice but to do one through them cause the website I bought the A8N from has a 5 day return which was fine cause my mobo worked for a week, then stopped. But all i have read about Asus's RMA procedure...
Are you saying that, an Allied 400w with only 12a on the 12v which worked for over a week until i installed the Enermax EG495P-VE (485w with 2 18a 12v rails), and the Mad Dog 500w with a 30a 12v rail ALL DON'T WORK???? You can't tell me that its the power supply on all three. The Enermax didn't...
You mean you moved the reset rtc jumper to 2-3 and waited at least 10 seconds (thats what the manual says) then put it back to 1-2. I don't know what other jumper u could be referring to as there are no other ones.
But as of resetting the CMOS for about 5 different times, some taking about 8...
Well user1234 can u help me on this one. I've been told to flash my bios when my computer won't even post. How do I do that cause I thought u had to still be able to use your floppy and the only to use the floppy drive is to wait til the post is done and then boot to the floppy.
Please help...
I disagree with that because i just bought a Mad Dog from compusa, the 500 watt with 30a on the 12v rail which is really good if it works which I can't test right now thanks to either my A8N-SLI being hosed or just really grouchy so I need to RMA that. i bought the Mad Dog cause I can return it...
Fent: My guess, which probably sounds really stupid but are u sure the CPU fan is plugged into the CPU_FAN power connector and not a diferent chassis or power supply fan connector?
My question for anyone is: I have read about the BIOS locking after it doesn't get enough power and won't let...
I doubt that will work, but how on earth can I even flash the BIOS when it can't get the mobo to post?? Using a floppy drive isn't even an option for me until I get a new mobo since I am just gonna RMA it through ASUS though it'll take a while cause their customer service sucks. I mean a...
I found under the "Contact Asus" tab at the top a link to their "helpdesk" http://helpdesk.asus.com/logon.asp?URL=/Default.asp which takes u to a page where you can log in, but as of right now you can't make an account. But I dont think you have to (I haven't done the RMA yet) and you can click...
Your issue sounds just almost exactally like my problem with my A8N-SLI. I had an Allied 400 watt in there that worked fine until i replaced it with an Enermax EG495P thats atx 2 and with dual 12v rails. But apparently that psu was bad cause it didn't work except it tuned the chipset fan a...
I need some help with my A8N-SLI. After running the computer for about a wek I put the Enermax EG495P power supply in which I thought would be great but it wouldn't boot up. The chipset fan spun for about a half of a second then stopped. I tested the power supply in my older computer and the...
