they also dont specify if all channels are driven, those number may be with just that channel with the others off. also no distortion specs.. "real" system specs are all chennels driven, like xxx watts RMS per channel, all channels driven, 20-20,000 hz, .1% THD. omit any of that and...

    old 486 Hippo VL+

what socket number is it? if its 3 then the amd 5x86 133 would be ideal, runs at 133 with a 33 mhz bus, 160 with a 40 mhz bus. I had one that ran at 160 flawlessly. needs a voltage adapter for other sockets.

    Mixing and Matching Speakers?

not sure what the z-5500 sats impedance is but if its lower that 8 ohms (theyre probably 4 or 5) then the boston sats wont harm the system but it will be unbalanced and colored. if the z-5500 impedance is greater than 8 ohms then dont try it, it will stress the logitechs amps, increasing...

This is for the old school Super7 users

pretty sure justly is right the K6+ cache has no effect on the mobos cachable ram size. some mobos could add tag ram to the cache and allow more ram to be cached, maybe you can steal some cache chips from one mobo and use it as tag ram on another?

    Memory Addresses!

not 100% sure on this, but here goes: back in the IBM AT (80286) days cmos chips were the original low power chip that could use a battery to retain data, but it was slow compared to TTL (power hungry) chips.. so the cmos chips were only used for the bios data that was only needed once at boot...

Installing Win Xp on a PII

agreed. my PII 400 / 256 meg cant play avis without sync problems and stutters. mpegs are ok though. Al Be, xp will run and pp may be ok, but more ram, like 128 megs is better. Ive seen XP run office apps fine in 192 meg systems.

Z-5500. ok to use 16 gauge cables?

lol not exactly, there is a minimum standard of dynamic range and freq response. but its mainly for movies, not music.

another vote for no difference with a short run like those speakers have. gauge=wire diameter, lower=thicker.

Need to copy hundreds of 7" reels of audio to HDD

r2r line out -> PC line in. dont use an amps speaker outputs or the decks speaker outputs (if it has them), the decks line out is the one you want. does the r2r have RCA line outs or DIN? if its RCA then radioshack has the patch cable you need (stereo RCA to stereo 1/8"). if its DIN you may have...

    lowlevel format

well its sort of complicated. the drives are intelligent, so software on the computer cant really tell what the drive is seeing, just what the drive is reporting. all drives have bad sectors, even new ones. bad sectors are mapped to spare sectors set aside for that use. there are two bad...

Two hard drives to one laptop connector?

some laptops only have a single ide channel enabled, the hd and optical take up the master/slave slot. check in the device manager and see if there are two channels, not just one. so that cable might not work on all laptops, only some.

    Old Box Needs Help

true, but in his case the bios may be locking out those ints from windows (some bios treat them as legacy ints and wont use them even when freed). windows may in this case be better as it may use those ints if the bios doesnt configure anything. who knows how old (smart) that bios is. after...

    Parallel LED array.

agreed, bad idea. what usually happens is one diode gets most of the current and burns out.. this allows more current through the rest of the leds and then another in turn will hog the current and burn out also. as more and more leds die the others get the current that the dead ones should have...

its probably illegal to change the outlet without being licensed (not 100% sure though) since you dont own it and others live in the building too. just get an outlet checker (a few bucks) and run a heavy extention cord to a properly grounded outlet. dont run the cord under carpets etc...
