I think it's the brightness and contrast of an LCD compared to an CRT. A CRT is much smoother in brighness and contrast because of the thick front glass compared to the LCD. You'r eyes will get used to that though. Anyways best to lower the brightness, if it hurts more than a small anoyance of...
I don't know when and how it hapened, but one of my HDD's sudenly refused to let me acces files and folders on it. I learned that I needed to go into safe mode to take ownership and that solved the half of the problem temporarily. I could acces the hard disk now, but it was useles to share...
Whenever I get a virus that I can't clean or delete I save the log to a txt file and reboot in Safe mode and remove it manually, then rescan. In safe mode you can delete or modify any file, even ones unaccesable in normal boot.
OK Rebate I got it. I was on a diferent computer and had to keep the system on so I couldn't reboot to Safe Mode and test it there. But I got on mine and I solved it.
Now I have another big question. Since until now I never tempered with the ownership of folders will I have to do this every...
How do I get into the Security Permissions on the folders and files I can't acces. Under proprieties I find no security tab.
Alos I have a new update. On the same PC I added a 80GB HDD that I needed to clean up so I copied the files I needed on the one that gives me trouble. I was able to...
I already tried disabling NOD32 plus in XP64 I have no anti-virus and NOD is inactive.
In Safe mode it still doesn't allow me anything. It keeps saying that I need to check if the disk has full or write protection activated. But only on thsoe folders.
Nobody has any ideas???
I did a full SpinRite6 check and it showed no problems. The Check disk tool finishes with Fix file system errors and scan/recover bad sectors checked yet nothing gets fixed.
The drive is fully functional just some folders and files won't work at all. Nothing I do to...
OK I have a Maxtor 300GB 16MB/buffer and I work a lot on it since I film and edit videos. As of late I have a worring problem that never hapened to me before. Some folders and files (non of the esential stuff yet) cannot be done nothing to them. I can't open some folders and documents and files...
Just got XP64 on and I clearly see 4.00 GB of RAM.
So is it WinXP32 on my hardware?? Or what? Hardware alone seems OK and in 64bit no prob. In 32 bit...
Thank you for the explanations.
I'm sorry I sounded agresive on my previos post. It just seemed you gave a quick look and answer.
From what I know Vista will come as a 32/64 installer, and depending on hardware it will install acordingly. Even if I have to choose the Vista 64 is the obviouse...
Did you read the first post?? and my last one??
The CPU is a AMD64 4400+ and the MOB is a nForce4-SLI chipset Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe. It's BIOS let's me enable the memory swap. So how could it be a CPU/chipset problem in my case?
Also why is the system reporting full 1/2/3GB when 1/2/3 stiks are...
Yeah:
300GB Maxtor = refused to answer anything but format (all important data was on another HDD as well)
200GB WD = broke it's read/write head after 3 months of use (all important data was on another HDD as well)
80 GB Maxtor = my little brother broke 6 pins in the conector for the ribbon...
I guess I'll wait for Vista before I plug in all 4 sticks. I think it's WinXP fault and not the board. In the BIOS I can see all 4 GB and I can enableboth software and hardware swap functionality for 4 or more GB of RAM.
Microsoft should be more clear on what is WinXP limit.
Has anyone got...
I've read that too. English is not my native language and could not make the end of it. Why when I installed 3 GB on the same systme it showed 3GB and didn't substract the RAM taken by other components but it did so when I installed the last one.
Also this is from the link on Microsoft's page...
OK This is what I have:
Windows XP Pro (non 64)
AMD X2 4400+ - latest driver from them
Patriot 2x 2GB Kit = 4GB RAM on
A8N-SLI Deluxe mob - BIOS 1015 (downloading 1016)
it sees 4GB of RAM OK.
with a nForce 4 SLI (duh) chipset driver v6.70
I have added the line /3GB in the Boot .ini as...
If you go by analogy of cloning should not be allowed, then Rolex shouldn't exist because they didn't invent the watch. Who are they to tell what watches shops shold sell.
Anyways Intel didn't invent chips, they just made a different type of chips. AMD got on that train.
It's like...
You don't need a powerfull videocard for video-editing. You do need a fast CPU so go with a P2.6-3.0c as they are plenty fast for small clips and cheap enough. If you can, get 512 MB of RAM just to make sure.
Integrated grafics doesn't work because of need for Dual View, and because even new chips have some features disabled that are needed by dedicated church programs. I have tested 4 systems with integrated video and one system with a GF3 TI200 and FX5200 and they all failed to show more than half...
You don't need a lot of power for church PC's unless you also edit audio and video taken during sermons. If you don't do any audio or video, then get anything that has a low end dual VGA/DVI connectors and DirectX9.0 compatible card (6200 or X300). You need a current video card because at...
The problem here that you discuss the option of a system based on availability while THG has based it on a test. So while you might be right (remember Opterons are available fomr IBM and HP) about Intel being more out on the market, THG was wrong in giving any credit to the Intel platform...
I own both HDD you inquire. I have the 74GB Raptor as my system HDD and a 300GB Maxtor Diamond 10 (16MB buffer) as storage. Unless you have crazy habbits (like me) to reinstall the system every 2 months or something like that don't go for the Raptor. When I install the system I feel a huge...
Because M2 is very important to consider. If you plan ahead you can save money by buying something expensive now that pays off in the future.
If you don't feel that you have to consider M2 when buying now, then you shouldn't even be here talking about decisions. You have made yours. Go buy...
I'm not sure about small form though. It depends on the software, but audio work really likes RAM which laptops don't have much of. I am going to 4GB soon to be able to do all my audio work.
I feel that you don't realize what HT was made for. It was made not soo much to improve multitasking as it was a way for Intel to coverup the holes they made in the netburst architecture, by giving the processor work to do to fill up those long pipelines. As a proof of that just look at the...
I agree that a CPU vs. CPU would be more fair, but if you start pointing out prices, think about the fact that if I would buy the X2 I'd pay the price for the CPU only, as I and many already have a 939 mob. And I have a very capable cooler so I could go OEM.
If I want to go to Intel dual...
Wow mechBgon, yur voltage stays pretty high. Mine drops to 1.07V at 1000MHz and I also have the 2.0GHz 3200+ A64.
The CPU does an almost instant jump back to full speed if needed.
Read this and the following pages:

And guess what like many already said we knew Intel is more flexible with HT on multitasking. But that doesen't make X2 a failure at all, and especially a sneeky CPU that runs away from DivX...
