Thanks for the reply. I sorta figured it was fine. Anything special I should do to clean the drive before re-installing. I was just gonna let xp install "wizard" do a full NTFS format on it instead of the quick format before the install.
I've got some virus issues on an older P4 Dell PC. I'd like to do a fresh install of XP using an OEM disk purchased from newegg for a different PC. The Dell box has it's own XP activation key stuck to the side of the box (which I would use for the fresh install). My question is, is the XP key on...
I've ignored the iPod craze from the beginning, but I'm now in the market for a larger capacity MP3 player and I'm feeling rather ignorant. I probably only need about 30GB of space for my MP3 collection and I'm wondering if I can use the remaining space on an 80GB iPod as a portable hard drive...
Which combination would result in the highest FPS in World in Conflict?
E6600 with 8800GTX
or
Q6600 with 8800GTS (640mb)
the article on FiringSquad.com seems to indicate that the Game is very CPU limited. so would the quad-core make a big difference here?
Auric, I believe your mistaken about the 2400 & 2600pro being available now in AGP (that's what this thread is about, AGP cards).
Also, as I understand it, the drivers for the 2400, 2600pro\XT accelerate Blu-Ray\HD DVD playback in Windows XP OSs. nVidia's drivers for 8500\8600 models only...
I too have been shopping for the right video card for my XP MCE machine (no intention for Vista). I'd like to add HD DVD playback by way of the Xbox HD DVD drive attachment. So to clarify, the 2600xt drivers supports 1080p decoding in Windows XP?

Thanks for the info on the Enhance, but for now I think I'll stick with the Corsair 520. the rig I'm building isn't actually for me, it's for a friend in another state. I'd feel more comfortable purchasing a "name brand", higher quality unit for him. I'd hate for my friend to have trouble with...
As the title says, which one of these is the better power supply?
The PC Power & Cooling Silencer 610 or CORSAIR CMPSU-620HX?
Both are the same price after rebates on NewEgg, but the Corsair model has a 5 year warranty while the PC P&C has a 3 year warranty.
Here are the intended parts...
I'm searching for a new video card for my aging HTPC. I recently purchased a Sony HDTV (a2000) and my x800xl doesn't fill the screen properly. I've tried powerstrip and apparently the x800xl does not support custom resolutions. I'm looking for a video card that does support custom resolutions...
I'm looking to build a PC that does it all - Gaming, File server, & Media center. This PC will be located in the Family room next to a Sony HDTV (A2000) connected via DVI-HDMI cable and audio connected to an existing 5.1 Home Theater Reciever via optical or SPIDF connector. Please give your...
I'm in the market for some decent RAM and I'm look for some suggestions.
I typicall buy corsair, but have heard good things about G.Skill lately with the D9's. Most of the D9's are out of my $ range. I'm looking for something with a little more headroom than I have now. I'm not a hardcore OCr...
What can I do with my 2nd PCI-E x16 slot other than crossfire. Can I use the slot for a different video card to power at HDTV?
I'd like to have my 1600x1200 LCD panel on one video card (current 7800GTX) and my Sony HDTV (KDS-A2000 - 1920x1080) on another card. Can I do this with my current MB...
I've got a question and am looking for those with similar builds or experience in the matter.
I'd like to add an extra HDTV tuner (ATI TV Wonder 650) to my curent HTPC box (specs below), but I'm not sure it has enough CPU power to handle Dual Hi-Def and Dual Std-def recording while playing a...
Thanks, 2 great choices. 7900 GTO looks great and could handle BF2 at 1920x1080p, just not sure it's worth it for a MCE machine. May have to make the call later, not to mention NewEgg and ZZF are out of stock.
anybody else?
I'm looking to build a new MCE rig and plug it into a new ~55" rear projection TV
1080p, of course. not purchased yet.
nVidia cards used to be the way to go for their decoders, is this still true?
a lot of video cards have been introduced lately so I can't keep up. can some one recommend a...
I have the need.... the need for SPEED!
It's difficult to sell the wife on spending a couple thousand dollars for a new rig all at once, but I can sell her on a few hundred at time. You just go with what works.
I'm leaning towards this very idea due to DX10 coming. Conroe, on the other hand would hold me for a while as far as CPUs are concerned. my dilemma is that I probably wouldn't get as many FPS for my money with the conroe vs. x1900xt. How badly is my 7800GTX limiting me... anyone care to take a...
How should I spend my next ~$300? E6600 or x1900xt?
Mostly I play BF2 @ 1600x1200 with all the eye candy.
Which ~$300 investment would you choose.
Please vote with the poll.
See rig below.
What is the highest "safe" voltage for my RAM (Corsair TWIN2X2048-5400C4)?
By "safe" I mean covered by warranty. I can't seem to find it on Corsair's web page. They only list 1.9volts at SPD timings, but usually they warranty a higher voltage.
anybody know?
I'll check back tomorrow. Thanks.
I've seen tons of charts with low resolution FPS results for Conroe. I understand this accentuates the differences between CPUs (Conroe has made it's point). But I've not seen any 1600x1200 (or higher) with high AA/AF charts. I'd like to know what "real-world" differences there will be. Who...
mine will also be here July 3rd. and your right newegg is already out of stock and has adjusted the price from $235 to $260. ZZF has it in stock for $280. I still say eWiz.com is a pretty good deal, even though their shipping is a bit pricey. It seems that newegg and ZZF are doing a bit of price...
just ordered mine here (see below) for $235 plus shipping.

my order status shows "in warehouse"
975X obviously... bigger number = higher performance.
if the 965 chipset (codename broadwater) was meant to exceed the performance of the older 975 chipset, they could have just as easily called it 985. you'll have to wait for the benchmarks to be sure.
One difference is the 975 offers ATI...
I think I found this "text" on someones blog somewhere, seems like a fairly honest testimonial to me (that's why I posted it). It doesn't seem unreasonable to think that Intel has "optimized" instruction code for Office applications... and if that's what it takes to get the job done I personally...
wow, this post has gotten out of hand... is there really any need for name calling? We're talking about CPUs here, not captial punishment or abortion laws.
I like the fact that Intel & AMD exist, competition is gooooooood for consumers. love it!
P.S. I hate the Fan boys! either side.
