    Hot : DVI Cables

Hmm, even the monoprice web site looks expensive to me. I just got a very good quality 15' DVI cable (dual-link dvi, though I'm only using it for single at 1920x1200) for $11 from ebay - $0.99 for the cable, and $9.95 for shipping. VERY fast shipping. And guess what? The ebay seller was...

X850 XT PE $149.99 No Rebate

This should beat the pants off the 6800GS - the X850 XT PE was the top of the range card for a good while - better in many tests to the top of the 6800 range - the 6800 GTX. The 6800GS was more a mid range version I think - about level with ATI's X800XL.

    Samsung 940BF 2ms 19" LCD for $199.95 AR Shipped

Still waiting on this (they've supposedly got an urgent offer in with the supplier). The rebate has to be postmarked by the end of July, and the display itself had to be purchased by 30th June, so I called them up to see if I'd still get the rebate. Got an email answer back today -...

X850 XT PE $149.99 No Rebate

Wow, amazing price. I think my work paid something like $500 for one of these for me 18 months ago. Awesome card - plays UT2K4 at 1920x1200 with all features very smoothly, and halflife2 at 1920x1200 with most stuff turned up high.

The Unofficial Memory Foam/Visco Elastic/NASA Pillow Thread

Definitly a matter of taste - I have a fairly thick memory foam pillow (maybe 5" or so) because I generally sleep on my side, but if you sleep on your back more, then a thinner one would probably be better.

The Unofficial Memory Foam/Visco Elastic/NASA Pillow Thread

When I got my mattress kit from Bergad (see my other posts in the thread, pages 25/26), there were no free pillows - aka the cheap option indeed. This thread is starting to look like an advert for Bergad :)

The Unofficial Memory Foam/Visco Elastic/NASA Pillow Thread

Good quality foam should definitly last better than that - maybe you have a bad one :( I've not really noticed any heat difference, but I've always been able to throw off my covers in my sleep if I got too hot, so probably not the best person to ask. My wife also hasn't noticed a problem, but...

The Unofficial Memory Foam/Visco Elastic/NASA Pillow Thread

That seems a pretty good price. The 5lbs density memory foam should be fairly firm (I have a 5.5lbs which gives great back support) unlike many of the cheapo memory foam toppers you get that are only 3 or 4lbs. For price comparison, I got a king size kit about 18 months ago for $480 plus $100...

NuSleep 10" 5lb Sensus Memory Foam Mattress $699 free pillow and free shipping

Haven't used it, but looks good - 5lbs per cubic foot density foam should be reasonably firm, and 4" thick memory foam should be good (I wouldn't want it that thick if it was a less dense foam - you'd sink in too much). The price looks about right - $850 for a king. For comparison, you can...

HOT!! MP3 FM Transmitter for the car 6.56 shipped

I'd recommend against these FM transmitters - I went through a whole load of them before eventually giving up. Just too much interference to get a clean signal in my explorer. Best option if available is plug directly into an auxiliary line in on your head unit. If there isn't one, then a...

    X850XT 256MB AGP for 249.99 AR microcenter.com

Actually, it's pretty simple - the original spec for DVI only allowed up to 1600x1200x60 over a single DVI link, however, it was written with running CRT's over DVI in mind, and so had to allow extra time at the end of each line's data for the electron beam to flyback to the other side. By...

    HOT: 3" 4lb Memory Foam Mattress Topper - Updated 9/3: $99 shipped

There's more info on memory foam mattresses and toppers in this recent thread: http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview...atid=40&threadid=1672567&enterthread=y Personally, I'd recommend 5.5lbs density memory foam - I find the 4lbs stuff just too soft for me. I've been sleeping on memory...

4 inch Memory foam bed topper. $160.99

Also should say, we tried the 2.5" 4lbs costco topper (yeah, it is 4lbs density, not 3 - I was mistaken) on top of the memory foam kit mattress (3" of 5.5lbs memory foam on 5" firm base foam) just as an experiment. End result was way too soft - not enough support - so I'd suspect folding...

Yep, sorry, the first link was missing the www : http://www.foam-fabrication.com/mattress.html - this takes you to their custom foam ordering site. 4 inch Memory foam bed topper. $160.99

yeah, we got a memory foam mattress that has 3" of 5.5lbs density foam for the topper, and it is superb! I also got one of the costco 2.5" 3lbs toppers, and found it just too soft - not enough support for my back to be comfortable (but it does on our guest bed). All of the deals on toppers...

New *Free* satellite maps at Google

You can always use the regular terraserver interface (or even something like worldwind) to get the lat/lon, and then plug them into the URL - that's how I got a good picture of my house (or rather the bit of earth where is has since been built :-) )

New *Free* satellite maps at Google

Yep, means they don't have that tileset available (the urban area imagery). It's only really the major cities apear in Urban Areas I think. You can try changing the tileset to 1 (t=1) and scale up to 10 (s=10) for a greyscale wider area view of other places. FYI, if I remember correctly...

59 Cent Cheeseburger Day at McDonalds

The supersizeme guy knew that it wasn't a healthy diet, he just did it to see what would happen and prove the point. None of the three doctors he had examine him, before, during and after had any inkling of the damage it would do to his liver. He wasn't a vegan - that was his girlfirend...

New *Free* satellite maps at Google

You may need to change to a different tileset, and they may not have the same resolution available for your area. Try hacking your own lat/long into this example URL : http://terraserver-usa.com/GetImageArea...ge&gc=80808080&fs=8&fc=ffffffff&logo=1 That'll grab a 2000x2000 pixel image...

New *Free* satellite maps at Google

Ahh, it's just the same old USGS urban area imagery that's been available for years now for free from various locations. It's not even as high res as you can get off the microsoft terraserver site with a little URL hacking. The google maps interface is cool though with the easy panning around.

    LCD Resolution and Gaming

Yep, you should play at either the native resolution, or something like .5x.5 of it - say 800x600 for a 1600x1200 display for best results, or alternatively, live with only part of the display being used. For full resolution you'll need a high end card for recent games. I can play halflife2...

Video cards 1600x1200 max on DVI?

That is one way of doing it, and is allowed for in the original spec, but what gets mostly done these days is to reduce the blanking period at the end of each line - since LCD's don't need the full period allowed for in the original spec (I guess they were thinking of CRT's connected through DVI...

Video cards 1600x1200 max on DVI?

The integrated TMDS in nvidia cards tend to be struggling a bit at that resolution, so it might be a bit touch and go. If you can get a dual-dvi output one, then the second non integrated tmds tends to be better quality, and so should be fine. ATI's integrated tmds tend to be a bit better...

Video cards 1600x1200 max on DVI?

Are you sure? I thought dual-link is effectivly taking the output of two tmds down a single cable. Only a few cards support it - if you're going to get a monitor that needs it, do your homework very carefully on the card! Most of the cards that will work are high end workstation cards. An...
