Just a quick update. I installed the latest nvidia driver which is a beta and I haven't seen this bug pop up since. Of course the last driver was good for a few days before it came up but it's something to look into.
I have a 8800GT and am running vista 64 for reference.
I need to purchase a large data drive, 750MB or more, and I see prices have been stagnant for a while. Are there any new large drives coming out or expected price drops coming up?
I'm eyeing the WD 1TB GP drive but it's still going for around 275 out the door. I have about a month until I...
This is the UK retail version, not US. It will play but be aware that some gaming companies have suddenly killed the multiuser code for versions not meant for the US.
I just built a new rig with a 8800gt overclocked by MSI and I'm running Vista 64. I started getting this same issue from the start and it's not only while playing a game. I get it just sitting there doing nothing in my desktop sometimes.
I've gone back to stock speeds on both the proc and...
Thanks a bunch for your help. I got the DS3l because i Heard it was a great overclocking board but maybe it's not for me. I have checked the memory in my bios and it shows 2.01 (my memory is set for 2.0 - 2.1) actual with a +.1 added. at +.2 it hits the 2.1. But this has not helped much. I've...
Yeah it will be fine that way. And you're correct about the windows installation. If worst comes to worse you'll just end up at the screen where it asks if you want to install windows. Instead of doing it over just reboot and get into bios and make sure your hard drive is your first boot device
Are you trying to reorganize the boot order? Then yes, you would do this and put your windows cd in your drive. When it reboots your cd drive will load up and windows will install. When it reboots you'll have to reassign your hard drive to boot before your cd rom so windows can finish.
F10...
I have but I'm confused on one thing. If I do a fresh install do I need to do anything other than enable AHPI in bios beforehand? This seems to be geared towards fixing a installation that is already final.
I'm going to be reformatting anyways and I just want to make sure it works from the start.
Yeah I've done this quite a few times but not in the last 3 years. I'm doing slightly better with a lower multiplier although it doesn't really make sense unless memory is not the problem.
Maybe I just got a crappy e8400. It runs pretty hot even at the 3.6ghz i'm holding it at. Goes to 60...
currently stable at 3.64ghz using a 455x8 (9 multiplier is hard to use for some reason). Memory is 6-6-6-25. Is that going to affect performance a lot over 5-5-5-15?
Thanks for the suggestions. My motherboard doesn't list any MB temps or volts - gigabyte p35-ds3l. In fact, when I overclock it only asks how much I want to increase the volts but I have no idea what I'm starting with. The memory I have set for 2.1.
I have gotten it stable at 455x8=3.64ghz...
I have a gigabyte p35-DS3L and a e8400 overclocked running bios 8a. I also have 4 SATA drives, 2 hard drives and 2 opticals.
I installed vista 64 with AHPI off and everything was fine. After overclocking I put AHPI mode on and can't boot into windows.
I've done many searches and found some...
Yes it's 1:1 and how is 1:1 overclocked?
I did bump the voltage up to 2.1v (the memory has a range of 2.0 to 2.1) and the northbridge by 0.1.
I put both sticks in slots 1 & 3 and also tried 2 & 4. The most I can get into vista is 3.72 using a 8 multiplier. Orthos only lasts a few minutes...
I have 2gbx2 g.skill ddr2-1000 pc8000 memory and i'm trying to overclock a e8400 on a gigabyte p35-ds3l motherboard. tuniq tower for cooling.
Even with the vcore up to 1.3 i can't go over 3.6ghz.
I tried pulling one of the sticks out and left the other in slot 1 and I can run prime for...
I'm having the same issues. I have a ds3l and a e8400 and can't get over 3.5 stable and that's at a 1.3+ vcore. I don't see any way to get the memory slower than 1:1. When I try ctr-f1 in the bio i can change the memory settings CAS etc but the memory divider is 1:1 or greater. nothing lower.
You know, I may not have set the bios correctly. I assumed something was wrong because I couldn't imagine it flat out not working at all but then I just realized something. I have a e8400 and the damn thing is always reading 20c as is common with this chip. Maybe at this low of a temperature...
Stupid question but maybe you all can answer. I flashed the bios with this board using the windows utility and everything is fine. Do I need to reset the CMOS jumpers? I've always flashed with a floppy drive and the crappy "manual" that came with the program is horrible in explaining how/what to do.
What do you mean "around"? There's only one position it can fit in because of the tab. Do you have it working with the automatic motherboard fan speed controller? And if so, what does the manual one do now?
I just put together a new rig with a Gigabyte Ds3l motherboard, 8400e chip and I flashed to the latest bios F8a. My heatsink is the tuniq tower 120 with the stock fan.
Here's my problem. The CPU connection on the motherboard is 4 pin and the fan is 3 pin. The fan also has a separate "fan...
I just downloaded the "beta" last night and so far it's stable. A lot of bios releases are beta and many people stay with them. I think they tend to be a lot more stable than most beta versions of software since they're so important to the function of a computer.
Considering nothing is saved on the bios i think it's reasonable that the bios flash will fail and i'll be left with a board i can't RMA. I would try the flash but no one has addressed this issue and I don't know much about it - just using some logic here.
Anyways, this board is pretty...
Thanks for all the advice. Most people say that I need to flash to the beta bios but I'm wondering what the logic is in this. Is it possible that the old bios isn't saving changes but the new one would? It seems to me that the problem is a lot deeper than the specific bios version.
I can...
Thanks. Since I can't make any changes it's not doing anything but good to know if/when I get this back up. I've spent tons of time on this and I'm pretty close to just sending it back and getting the gigabyte I was originally reccomended.
Thanks for the advice. I just tried a new battery so everything you've suggested I've tried and no luck. Am I the only one having this problem? I should add that I hooked up my old hard drive with windows xp and it boots ok and I can run windows. When I hooked up my dvd-drives none of them would...
I've been wracking my brains out for a day on this. I bought this board from newegg with bios 15 and have it setup bare bones with the basics in my config below. No matter what I do I always get a CMOS Checksum error when it fires up. Just as concerning, whenever I change anything (except the...
the standard bios jumper was set, not the "clear". Anyways, I tried re-clearing it and no luck. is it possible my battery is dead? That's what the manual says which is strange since it's brand new.
I tried burning a disc with nero but now nothing will burn. i get errors or no disc errors...
I just put together a e8400 on a abit ip35-e motherboard. It's running bios 15 as I don't have a floppy to update the bios (any advice on how to do it with a cdrom?)
Anyways, I'm having a few issues that are troubling me. On my first post the bios gave me this error at startup "CMOS Checksum...
Everyone is assuming that these are about to be replaced and that's why they've been on sale everywhere. But to be honest, the prices are now going up and so I did a search and found threads in 06 where everyone thought they were going to be replaced.
Can you elaborate on this? I have a pair of klipsch promedia 2.1's which I love but need something cheap for the home theater. is there a way to turn these into 4.1's? (4.2???)
I picked up a e8400 at the local fry's - they had one left for $225. ended up q745 stepping too. If anyone is reading this and is in the area they have an open box one for 5% off. Personally I wouldn't buy it knowing that it was probably returned for a poor o/c or someone tortured it but if...
Is thisthe same coolermaster that everyone is raving about? it's $80 free shipping on zip...
I'm running a fairly simple machine, oc 8400, 8800gt (no dual cards), a few hard drives and that's about it. I know it's overkill but a good 500w is going for this. any reason not to get this one? Is...
I'm wondering this as well. the manufacturer's website doesn't list the e3110 but it does list the e8400 in one search although it doesn't list it on another.
