    Problem with Registry

Yeah, that's what I had originally thought: importing subkeys shouldn't cause much harm because all Windows use the same registry keys - in this case HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.lnk HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\lnkfile. But I'm going to try what you've suggested to try to fix the problem.

    Problem with Registry

*Grumbles* Damn it. Thanks though. Now I have to find the XP disk.

    Problem with Registry

Something's wrong with my registry. First, Windows' own shortcuts (.lnk files) are recognized by Windows itself. I checked the registry, and the problem sure was there (it showed "Value Not Set" for .lnk files). So I exported the registry file from my other computer to import it onto this other...

    Windows not recognizing shortcuts

It's XP Home, and I'm not really sure when it happened, so I don't think I can do a system restore. But thanks, I'll try and import those reg. keys.

    Windows not recognizing shortcuts

This is on my parents' computer, so I'm not exactly sure what they did. But Windows doesn't recognize its own shortcuts (.lnk files). All the shortcuts on the desktop and the Start Menu won't open. When I click on them, a box appears that reads something like Windows doesn't know what to open...

    Gigabyte GA-K8NF-9 and IEEE 1394

I have a case with a front FireWire connector, so I connected the headings onto the motherboard. I went on and installed the Unibrain Firewire drivers, but reading the motherboard manual, it said you have to change the drivers to Microsoft's if you want to connect a camcorder or something. I...

Why is my Ipod (via firewire 6 pin) not connecting to Win XP?

I'm having the same problem with my iPod and Firewire connection right now too. When I plug the iPod into the Firewire port, the iPod will charge, but the computer doesn't detect the actual iPod. And the drivers for the IEEE1934 port are working properly. Anyone have a clue why?

    Computer won't power-up

Maybe I should check my PSU with another computer to positively say that it's all right. But I'm pretty sure it's functioning. When I turn the PSU off, I hear a little "zip" sound that sounds as if I turned it off. I'm really beginning to assume that the CPU is bad and I'll probably RMA the...

    Computer won't power-up

Nothing else requiring power (optical drives, hard drives, etc.) are connected. I'm attempting to boot off just the CPU, RAM, and video card, and still it won't turn on. I've considered it might be the case wiring being faulty. If so, there's no way of fixing it is there? Unfortunately, I...

    Computer won't power-up

When I say nothing happens, I mean absolutely nothing happens. No lights, no beeps, no anything. And yes, I just tried each individual stick of RAM, but still to no avail. Yeah, I plugged in both power connectors. Two consecutive dead motherboards will be frustrating. Especially...

    Computer won't power-up

About a month ago, I ordered parts off TigerDirect and NewEgg. My setup is A64 3500+ Chaintech VNF4 2x512 Corsair Value RAM Radeon X800XL So I connected everything, plugged in the power, flipped the PSU switch, hit the power button, and nothing happened. I thought it was a PSU problem at...

    Yup, but same thing happened.

    Chaintech NFV4 problem?

Yeah, I pretty much checked everything and it's still the same. Is there a way to know if it's the CPU or mobo that's dead? I don't want to send the mobo back only to find that it's the CPU that's dysfunctional (or vice versa).

    Chaintech NFV4 problem?

I don't get any beeps at all. By plugging in the power, all I get is a quick LED flash and that's it.

    Chaintech NFV4 problem?

I built a computer with the following specs: Chaintech NFV4 motherboard Athlon64 3500+ 1GB (2x512) Corsair Value RAM Radeon X800XL (And then there're opticals and floppies, but I think they're irrelevant to the matter.) I completely assembled the computer, plugged it in, flicked the...

    More Chaintech VNF4 ultra issues....

I'm having the exact same problem. I just built a computer with the following specs: Chaintech NFV4 A64 3500+ 1GB Corsair Value RAM Radeon X800XL I used a stock case PSU (rated at 500W) and the green LED would flash for under a second when I flicked the power switch on the PSU. So I...
