What are some of the best economical solutions for home security cameras?
There?s a lot of burglaries in my area so I?m trying to be proactive. Features
I?d like to see, but could sacrifice one or two of these for the right price:
1) Ability to have multiple cameras.
2) Compatible...
Basically, my home keyboard is a PS/2 keyboard that has a power button and I like this feature, even though it will nto power on, just off from the keyboard. At work I have a Dell keyboard that has a volume knob and some other hotkeys, and the keyboard doesnt take up too much extra space. It...
I'm looking into using my old case/PSU as an external drive enclosure for a USB dvd player, as well as 3 SATA drives (via Icy Dock).
The problem is that I want to use a regular, quiet ATX style PSU, instead of the noisy PSU's in DVD duplicators and other external cases.
My question is...
I was looking to having an external case to house my SATA hard drives, and so far the best solution I can find is the Icy Dock eSATA MB561S. However, the drawback is that the fan that is built into it's internal power supply is NOISY. This seems to be a common problem with these prebuilt...
I have an Abit IC7 mobo, stock 2.4c HSF, and a thermalright NB1 copper HS on the northbridge. The NB1 heatsink is about 40mm tall.
THe Zalman 7700 HSF is, i believe about 167mm but I'd like to know if it has 40mm of clearance before the flower part of the HSF starts to branch out. I believe...
I've noticed that my USB 2.0 cables are not labeled as 2.0. I can not see a difference between the newer 2.0 cables and the old 1.1 cables. Are they different? Can you get 2.0 speeds from jsut about any USB cable?
Thanks
I'm using WinXP SP2 and defraging my drives.. however, it does not seem to put all the data at the "beginning" of the drive. It puts large chunks in the middle area.. but i'd like to compact it towards the beginning of the drive because it's faster there. Does this make sense to anyone? Help?

Anyone had any problems with these adapters? PC freezing? BSODs?

.. just curious.
I have an Abit KV7 and for the most part, I've liked the board, but I accidentally killed it while changing the northbridge HSF out. (dont ask me how)
Just curious what you guys recommend for a stable, reliable socket A board that can scale up to 400fsb. I dont need LAN or built in video...
Why are 1gb DDR sticks so much harder to produce? I'd love to get 4 sticks of 1gb DDR 433CL2 ram but it doesn't even seem that i can get 400mhz CL2 in 1gb form. :( Any speculation as to when this technology will be available, if at all?
Isn't there a registry entry that one could edit in Windows XP to address how XP is, by default, optimized for cpus with 256k L2 cache? I remember there being a value to change and I did but didn't really notice a difference..
Anyone heard of this?
I'm looking to replace my north bridge heatsink-fan with a passive cooling solution. Right now, the fan is dead and the temps are still acceptable. I'm replacing just for good measure.
At first I was going to get a Zalman, but you either have to use adhesives or bolts.. my Abit IC7 has the...
I am currently getting my internet via a wireless network feeding from a friend of mine's router. I am also wanting to link my computers up in a gigabit network to pool my computers together for when I need them all to share a single purpose. (video rendering)
However, my delima is that I can...
I'm setting up a server. Is it possible to use an old AGP 2x ATI Rage 128 Pro (I think it's called the Fury?) on a new KT600 motherboard with an 8x AGP slot. The newer voltage is lower, right? Will the motherboard make propper adjustments? What's the deal?
THanks,
jared
I am interested in getting a 1,000mbit network switch, HOWEVER I am worried that they make noise. Does anyone here know of or recommend any gigabit network switches that are noiseless? I was looking into the D-Link 5 port 1000 switch at NewEgg.. Thanks
Basically, what the topic says. I notice the specs say the P4 chips are fine up to about 70C, which is when throttling occurs. Tests on various sites confirm that the processors are perfectly stable at 68C, but is there any proof that this shortens the life of the processor?
Just wondering if anyone has put Windows Server 2003 to the litmus test to see if it can be tweaked.. and if there are any performance improvements for audio production, gaming, or even general use?
I have an Abit IC7 (intel 875) mobo with a single 256 meg Geil Golden Dragon chip. It is rated at cl 2 and performs well. However, I can not seem to find a good deal on an identical chip to pair off in dual channel mode. I am on a very tight budget..
My question to you guys, is should I have...
I am the legal guardian of my 12 year old little brother and I am worried about some of the things he is doing on his lap top. He guards it with his life and has been getting into trouble.
I need to find a good keylogger I can install on his laptop that will write what he types to a file that...
I am highly curious for any information relating to RAM prices and future speculations. I am wanting a 512mb stick of PC3200/CL2, but the prices have been going up. What was $100 a few months ago is $130 now.
Any idea as to what I should expect in the near future?
I am setting up a wireless-G network for my brother. I got a Linksys WRT54G router and a Microsoft MN-720 notebook adapter.
Setting up the network was easy and I noticed default channel # is 6. The signal is nice and strong, until he goes into his backyard then a neighbor's wireless network...
Hey guys (or girls), does anyone know why, with my Radeon 9200SE, I can't keep stable settings with using a dual monitor setup?
I'm running two 17" CRTs. One in the regular VGA port and the other adapted to the DVI port. I only have the option of allowing the VGA port to be the main monitor...
I was just using the 'Hardware Doctor' software utility that comes with my Abit IC7 board to look at my system temps and it has my cpu at 55C. I am guessing this is a little too hot? What is the recommended operating range of temps for the P4 2.4c and what should be the highest I go?
Also...
I just installed SBC Yahoo internet access on my brother's laptop and now, when he connects sometimes he gets this message from Windows XP that the system will restart in 45 seconds and it is caused by NT AUTHORITY/SYSTEM and below it says "RPC remote procedure call".
What is that?
I am building an audio workstation PC, but can't decide between getting an internal or external CDRW drive. What are the general advantages or disadvantages? I was mainly wondering if having an external CDrom would improve the cooling inside the case, even if a little?
I've been reading reviews on the Seagate barracuda drives. They are a big hit among audio production consumers because of their quiet and reliable operation.. Nothing but good reviews on the PATA versions. HOWEVER, I have noticed mixed reviews on the SATA versions of the same drives. Many...
Can I attain 1000mb/sec speeds (gigabit) on the standard PCI-32 slot on my IC7 board? Will the performance be much different than if it were the built in gigabit LAN that is on the IC7-G?
Are these $40 cable filters that I see floating around the internet for real? Is there such a device that can allow anyone with a cable signal to get premium channels? I'm just wondering for uh, research purposes.
This is theft and it's discussion will not be permitted here

So, can I? I need a way to quickly transfer large LARGE files from my laptop to my PC. I have no wired LAN or external hard drives. My wireless does not like to have large files transfered through it continuously. It'd be nice if I could just plug a double male USB into both computers and...
Anyone heard anything about this? Seems like when I let my computer idle I start getting these windows errors saying it has an error running WMI.exe.. I couldn't fix or find the problem so I loaded up Norton 2002 and it found W32.Pinfi virus on every EXE on my hard drive. I cleaned it and so far...
I wanted to also point out that my 2.4c ran without the fan on the stock heatsink for a few hours before I realized there was no fan going. The Winbound hardware doctor read me at 70C. I replugged in the fan and now it's reading between 50 to 58C @ 205FSB depending on how stressed the system...
I just built a new system (IC7, 2.4c) that has a Fortron 300w ps. This thing is really quiet and so far the system seems fine. Maybe a tad sluggish due to only having one Geil 256 Golden Dragon chip.. My question is that all the rails run exactly as specified (5v = 5.0, 3.3v = 3.30) except the...
Okay, I just got a 2.4c (retail) in today. On the bottom of the HSF there is a black pad. There is no included paste. I went to intel's site where they give instructions. There is paste mentioned. It also says to press down hard.
1) is the black pad all I need? Does it melt on it's own to...
Looking for cool operation and low power usage out of a video card for my audio computer.
Nvidia FX5200 or ATI 9200?
Am I correct in assuming a 64meg version of a card will run slightly cooler than a 128meg version? I'm trying to get the quietest PC possible, thus needing the coolest (so I...
Is it true that a RAID 0 array is faster for larger files, but can be slower for reading small files? Do you guys see a huge jump in performance when you go to RAID 0? Just wondering if it's going to give me a nice boost for an audio production work drive (non OS).
Is it true that, while the Barton 3200 was boasted as an XP processor with twice the L2, future releases will no longer have the 512k L2 cache?
Why? As I understand, this will only make the cpu cooler and allow them to (over)clock higher without doing any real design improvement. Sounds like...
I'm looking to build an audio/video editing system and the only thing I'm not sure of what I want, is the case.
It does not have to be snazzy looking. No windows. Just the best bang for my buck. I'm looking for thick steel to reduce noise. Not so much worried about heat as it wont be...
My dad has an intel 815aae something or another board that supports up to 133mhz FSB. It has a 733mhz celeron that (according to Intel) operates at 66mhz FSB.
He currently has two 32meg sticks in there and I was wondering if I could replace them with a 256 meg PC133.. would it work fine with...
