    Rambus coming back?

So basically... RAMBUS "claims" they own exclusive rights to every memory module technology out there! Something is definitely wrong here.

FB-DIMM related to RAMBUS? Where did you hear that from?

    Rambus coming back?

Yes, but FB-DIMMS is not related to RAMBUS. If FB-DIMMS becomes some kind of memory Standard in arhcitecture, which I think it will.. check out the technology for yourself... RAMBUS will have fewer fights to pick. I don't think Intel will pay RAMBUS for this technology. I hope not.

RAMBUS will soon fade away. They are relying on things to come... well that's never too good. Here's another BETTER thing to come: Intel FB-DIMMs to offer real memory breakthroughs full article: http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=15214

    Rambus coming back?

I am involved in stocks too. Actually I work for one of the leading manufacturers in the US. Rambus is expensive to build. Most manufacturers prefer TSOP package. Samsung right now is the major player on RAMBUS. But Rambus now falls into a niche market. The cost for rambus vs the...

god ! These memory technologies pattents are soo stupid! RAMBUS has god awful prices. 512MB-PC800 $200 ?? What the hell is this SHHHHHH 512MB DDR is only $70 down with RAMBUS I say! XDR RAMBUS- how dreadful. I heard the bad news. It's just friggin stupid how everyone has to pay a...

PC-133 will work in a PC-100 system given the same latency. For example, PC-133 CL3 will not work in PC-100 CL2 system! However, PC-133 CL3 will work in a PC-100 CL3 system. Compaq used to follow non JEDEC standards. Some time ago they hard wired some circuitry into their boards...

    Video Card Memory Question

RECTANGULAR is TSOP packaging. SQUARE is BGA packaging. DDR2 modules use BGA chips, whereas DDR modules use TSOP chips for example. BGA has better voltage ratings, and represents the future in terms of memory chip packaging. BGA is better overall.

    Patriot Memory?

To our amazement, we were really bowled over by the Corsair DIMMs and both pairs of Patriot modules from PDP. We can confirm that PDP currently offers the speediest DDR2 DIMMs by far. Not only did the 1 GB Patriot DIMMs work at DDR2-533 at sensationally fast CL3-2-2-4 timings, they also managed...

2 different brands of memory in a system... DELL XPS GEN3

The M you are talking about is Micron. Memory pairs from different companies should work fine if they have the same spec (frequency & latency). It's typically ok to combine similar specs of major companies (Samsung, Micron, Infineon, Hynix....). I'd be careful of combining pairs of...

    Thoughts you cannot think

In response to: "if there are thoughts that we cannot think, how would we know them" I have an example of this... It is impossible to think about the largest prime number, however you can proove quite simply that the number of elements in the set of prime numbers is infinite.

    PC3200 DDR memory @ > 200MHz speeds

The ratio you are talking about is your FSB : DRAM ratio, which is a comparison of output between your bus speed (not necessarily FSB) and your memory bus speed. These buses are not always on par with each other which is why we do not always see 1:1 (1:1 meaning that that the output is...

    PC3200 DDR memory @ > 200MHz speeds

I would like to first note that your FSB is not directly related to your memory speed. The FSB is essentially a property of your processor. Your FSB is connected to a memory controller, which in turn connects to your memory via a memory bus. Your FSB is not necessarily the same thing as your...

    "Missing" RAM...

It is possible that the memory you have is a 128MB module, sold as 256MB. Approximately 10% of all memory modules sold are counterfeit. In some areas, counterfeit modules occupy 70% of the market. Counterfeit meaning that the modules are being sold as something they are not. Memory modules...

    Penitum Pro OC

I believe the changing values you are seeing on the processor rating in CPU-Z are due because no processor is 100% stable. For example, if your room tempurature increases, it is likely that your processor speed will slightly decrease. And so, your processor speed is fluctuating between a...

    Memory Question

IN GENERAL: Though it is said that Windows XP requires a minimum of 256MB, in actuality the minimum requirement should be 512MB. 1GB is recommended with modern applications. To shed some light on memory: The most common memory types for PCs today are: DDR2 SDRAM - quad pumped data rate...

    Memory speeds?

For best-case performance you want to watch both your memory bus and FSB bandwidth. You want these bandwidths to closely match each other. Better if your FSB is slightly faster than your memory bus. It's never a good idea to run your memory bus higher than your FSB. I advise using this...

    Memory Latency

There are many factors that affect Latency: 1. System BIOS reads the intended latency from the SPD of the memory module, a chip that stores information about the module. You can change the latency in the system BIOS, though only within a certain range. 2. When the module is built, the...

    Question about memory brands

Interesting topic here. The question being: which brand is the best. Basically there are two types of memory modules: original and non-original brand. Original modules are modules manufactured by the original chip makers. For example, Micron builds an IC chip, and then manufactures the...

    a memory question...

For this case, I would look at the total maximum bandwidth for the two settings: 1) For running both memories together you have 768MB memory, bandwidth of 2100 MB/s versus 2) 512MB memory at 3200 MB/s. No matter what, when your computer fills up the first 512MB space of memory...

combining memory modules. a weeee question :D

I'm not sure how to combine two PCBs into a single DIMM slot, but I know it is possible to PULL CHIPS from existing memory modules to use in building higher density memory. For example two sticks of 256MB module composed of 8 chips of (32Mx8) each, can be combined into a single 512MB module...

    DDR Memory modules question ?

I might be too late in replying, but I'll take a stab at your questions: 1. My mb manual states that my board does not support x16 modules (I do not think they are referring to the # of chips on the module). What does that x16 mean? I believe when your manual is referring to x16, they are...
