So you would rather have AV/AS software that has...
allisolm, Agreed.
Doomer, I doubt you've actually seen Norton 2009 in action, which, by the way, is MUCH better than what Symantec has put out in the past. If you'd used the 2009 stuff, you'd know how awesome it is.
And for the low low price of free, you can't really beat that.
Again - we are talking about Norton 2009, not 2008, not 2007, and most DEFINITELY not 2006 or earlier. NIS 09 installs in ~ 60 seconds, and uninstalls in about the same amount of time. Seriously. It is WAY better than the crap Symantec used to put out.
The problem Symantec runs into (as is...
A few years back != current product offerings.
Symantec's 2009 product line is flat-out amazing. Fast, effective, and easy to use.
Try reading up on the current state of affairs with regards to security software. Here's a link to help...
+1... McAfee's protection hasn't been worth much in years.
I'd rather spend $70 on NIS 09 than get this for free.
Still, I suppose weak sauce protection is better than no protection.
Not by a whole lot, though.
In for this. Been waiting for some decent OCZ DDR2 2x2GB kits to go on sale. I'll be using this DDR2 rig for the forseeable future, no rush for me to upgrade quite yet. Thanks OP.
+1 on getting OCZ rebates, I'm 2 for 2 so far (well assuming I get the 2nd one, which they just confirmed they received my claim so seems like smooth sailing from there). Haven't heard of any problems with OCZ rebates and haven't had any problems myself.
Norton 09 is amazing. I was skeptical at first too, based on my experience with their software in the past, but Norton 09 is hands down the best they've ever done.
Installs in about a minute on average, uninstalls in the same amount of time, no more default blocks on Windows file/print...
Not a bad deal. It's nice to see the 16GB USB flash drives coming down in price. I'm waiting on a cruzer micro titanium to drop to this price or lower though, those things are indestructable.
Kicking myself for picking it up a few days ago for 359.99 after MIR, but hey, it's only $20... still, I'm now thinking of picking up a 2nd card, except I don't really want two copies of COD: World at War. Actually I don't even really want one copy of it, I'd rather just have $50 off the card...
Got the GTX 285. Thanks OP. Was considering the 295, but... probably not going to need the extra power, and if I do, I'll just pick up another 285 down the road and throw it in SLI.
So I tried the eSATA cable included with the eSATA card (previously I had been using the one that came with the MX-1 enclosure) and it began working flawlessly. -1 for Antec packing cables with the drive that do not work properly.
I've tried two different MX-1 cases, one with a 1TB HDD inside, the other with a 250GB HDD in it, and neither is recognized when I plug them into the Simpletech ProSpeed eSATA card. The card is recognized in device manager (it's detected as a Silicon Image SiI 3132 SATALink Controller under...
I'm pretty sure of that as well - I remember reading an article when I bought them (and again recently) that basically said they were GTX's with downclocked RAM and lower voltages - lots of people were able to OC them to get GTX performance out of them. Googling '7900 GTO GTX' for example turns...
I've had the two 7900 GTOs for almost 2 and a half years now, and I'm starting to game again and hurting for a new card (or two). The Hot Deals thread for the 9800 GTX+ is tempting me into getting one of those, but what is the performance like relative to what I already have? Is it worth it to...
+1... CA is not one of the best solutions out there. You get what you pay for with this deal. Of course, Nod32 was 9.99 (still is?) so I would spring for that instead. Or find Norton 2009 on sale (it happens), NIS09 is an AMAZING application, Symantec has really done a great job with it IMO.
Lots of RAM on sale. I have 2x1GB of the SLI-branded OCZ memory, which is also on sale, comes out to 20.99 AR, before tax and shipping. So it pays to poke around on the egg. Link to SLI ready RAM
Think this will work for two 9800 GTX+ cards? Says SLI certified for two 8800 GTXes, but it has four 6-pin PCI express power connectors, which is also what the 9800s require.
Actually I had decided on dual 9800GTX+'s because of a recent price drop thanks to the new cards, but the pair appears to perform better than the GTX280, at a better price, and I already have an SLI mobo so why not take advantage. I also have a 24" monitor running 1920x1200, and since SLI works...
I am planning on purchasing two eVGA 9800 GTX+ (512-P3-N873-AR) cards since I'm behind the times on my video (2x eVGA 7900GTS currently). I also am throwing in a new QX6850 to replace my OC'd e4300. I figured that I'd get a bigger PSU so I won't have to worry about increases in power...
I repair PCs (mostly software) for a living and when I encounter infected systems, more than 99% of the time, if there are no hardware issues, it's cleanable. The only times I recommend a full wipe are when the computer doesn't have any programs or data saved to it (ie, it's used for accessing...
+1. for Staples on that one. And who does coupon codes that work for less than a day? (unless of course it's been up all this time unbeknownst to us)
So, can this be fixed? I think the ones that bother me the most are:

I still play CSS, actually just finished a few rounds not too long ago. It's still fun, but it's getting more difficult to find good servers - where there aren't hackers, people who spam mic, immature kids, etc etc.
I've been OCing my e4300 and the 2nd gigabit port on my eVGA 680i chipset died. No connectivity to the internet, but it can access the modem and router setup pages without issues. The first port appears to work fine, so I switched to it and hopefully it will continue to work.
Not so happy...
You'll probably be fine. AFAIK, all it does is lower the multiplier when the CPU isn't being stressed. It goes back up when the CPU power is needed. I don't think there are any changes to the actual FSB, so I doubt you'll have problems posting or anything else. Lemme know if it works out - I'm...
Are you one of those people who was telling everyone 20 years ago that "No one will ever need more than 512KB of memory space?"
It's only a matter of time before you can buy 1TB for $100. Not if, but when.
So I'd unintentionally left my CPU OC'd to 3.2, despite the alleged heat issues, and I played some CS Source. No problems (But HDR was enabled by default! Awesome!) as far as I could tell.
Once I was done, I looked at Speedfan's temps. They were pretty normal.
I then proceeded to browse...
I think something's wrong with Speedfan. I tried again, same overclock more or less. It actually ran 4hours+ on both 3000 and 3115 MHz, so I figured a bump up to 3200 shouldn't be a problem. I upped the FSB, booted into windows and ran Orthos for about 30 minutes or so, went away from my...
I think something was wrong with the sensor. Because at 3GHz, it tops out at 61C after running Orthos for 4 hours. The 100C @3.2GHz result doesn't seem very proportionate/scaled.
So right now I've got a very stable OC of 3GHz. I should be able to do 3.2, maybe I just have to play around with...
