Well, this thread's problem should be over :) First of all, let me thank you all for your extensive help. Not only have I learned a lot, but I'm grateful of knowing Anandtech has always had people willing to help with one's issues, no strings attached. I know there's no words that will...

How to test all hardware on new computer

Well, I just finished building the new computer, and want to run some tests to ensure everything is working properly. Here's the hardware: ASUS P5K Deluxe/WiFi-AP Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 4x Crucial 2GB, 240-pin DDR2 PC2-5300 CT25664AA667 VisionTek Radeon HD 4850 2x Western Digital...

Problems installing Windows Vista x64 on new pc

Ok, so I'm thinking of trying to cool the computer with external componentes to try to see if only the fan is the one that doesn't work. This way, a cooler will actually be a good investment. What ideas do you have to cool the computer?

Problems installing Windows Vista x64 on new pc

As a matter of fact, I did miss out plugging in the connector at first, but yes, when turning on the computer I got the message to plug in the power supply connector to the card. As for swapping the DVI connector, yes I did. I tried both ones :)

Problems installing Windows Vista x64 on new pc

Ouch... what I was hoping wasn't :( Replacement... oh boy... I'll talk to VisionTek and see what they can do since getting the card back to the US is very expensive :( That said, I'll follow along that path for now. However, I do not have high hopes. On another thought if that doesn't...

Problems installing Windows Vista x64 on new pc

So.... disregard everything.... I found the reason why the card is overheating.... probably because the fan is NOT turning lol... I'm assuming this narrows the problem down to the following: 1. Lack of enough power 2. Card is dead Any ideas? Thanks!

Problems installing Windows Vista x64 on new pc

No, I haven't tried it in another computer, yes it's a new retail card, and I do believe the fan does work, although I haven't precisely checked (will check again once I'm @ home). I'll definitely look into testing it in another computer, although I have none to do it :( Everything is...

Problems installing Windows Vista x64 on new pc

Oh yea... the only reason why I'm not tripping about buying another power supply is because the one in my old computer died... so I've had no desktop for about a month now (my good 'ole Thermaltake finally died). The other video card I will borrow (on Monday) is a 7600 from EVGA I believe...

Problems installing Windows Vista x64 on new pc

Thanks for the info.... unfortunately I don't have access to any low power video card... I basically upgraded from my AGP mobo and don't have anything PCI express. If anything I would need to buy one for troubleshooting :( Regarding in which connector I plugged it, I can't really remember and...

Problems installing Windows Vista x64 on new pc

Oh, that's very interesting... is there any process I can rule out other components before ordering a new PSU? I don't have a newer PSU to compare it to, but I see it could be that as the PSU specs say "AMD64 or P4/Prescott". I live in Guatemala, so ordering a new PSU is expensive, especially...

Problems installing Windows Vista x64 on new pc

So I just finished building my new computer and booted up, put the Windows Vista x64 DVD on the drive, and booted into Windows installation. After selecting the languages, and clicking "Install Now", a few minutes after my monitor goes on standby, there's no access to the DVD, and nothing...

Recommend a PSU for this system

So, I'm in the process of replacing my computer, so I'm leaving some parts behind for a small file server or something. But I still need a Power Supply for this older computer. The parts that the computer has currently are: Motherboard: MSI KT4 Ultra-FISR CPU: AMD Athlon XP 2400+ 2000MHz...

    downloadable music

Well.... I'm a Metallica fan, so I can recommend for them :) http://clankrw.net/ has free bootlegs of their music. Good thing is that Metallica supports bootlegs (as explained in the site's front page), so it's quality music at a good "price" ;)

    After a new mouse!

Logitech's Customer Service is the BEST. They replaced something I had LOST under the "warranty". Anyway, my story aside... have you looked into getting a new receiver instead of a mouse? The receiver I lost was for my LX8 and I got a replacement receiver from ebay at ~$20 (incl. S&H). I did...

    Limited or no connectivity

Ok to answer all your questions: I tried safemode, and no results. Hard power off? You want me to do that? Yes the problem isn't with the router (there are 5 computers, and only this one has problems) I already tried the PCI network card, and same result. As for going directly, I already...

    Limited or no connectivity

Ok, here's the deal with my sister's Dell Optiplex 170L. Out of the blue, one day it started giving the limited or no connectivity error message, and no network. I went to restart the switch, the router, repaired the network card, and also remade the cable. Then I used winsock fix, an MS...

Computer goes into power saving mode

Well I found the problem. The video card fan died, so it's overheating. The card obviously works, but can't put stress to it (Counter-Strike is still a pathetic 3D rendering game, so no real stress there, that's why it works). Any ideas?

The thing is....out of the blue it does it. I mean, I'm playing at 800x600 (or 1024x768), and the monitor takes 1280x1024, and it just does it randomly. There's no change of resolution or whatever.
