Thank you very much Binky. That link you put helped me out greatly. I had no prior understanding of the strap/DRAM SPEC before this since I was comming from the older system. I greatly appreciate your help!
Hey I was wondering if someone could help me out with some IB9 settings. No matter what I do I cannot seem to get the board to post past 300FSB and sometimes with I set it to 300FSB it results in a NO POST. I am not very familiar with the BIOS settings since I just came from an A64 AGP setup...

Search on pricewatch or pricegrabber for the stuff your looking for and you might find it cheaper elsewhere. Check resellerratings.com for the e-tailer ratings.
MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum
Just go thru and check the different BIOS's that were released for the motherboard. If you are running a really old BIOS then you may need to update before installing the X2 CPU.
The power supply fan doesn't blow hot air at the cpu. The power supply fans act as exhaust fans, thus drawing air from the case and expelling it outside the case. The only benefit you would have had with cutting the hole in the top for the power supply fan is the ambient air vs the heated case...
OK this is what I have decided to do instead. I am going to upgrade the main computer in the house and then deal with the POS that I got downstairs for now (til I can afford an entire new PC).
Here is what I am planning on ordering (these are what you'll be critiquing):
Motherboard: ABIT...
Well I did find a direct comparison between the 2 and they seem pretty much equal. The major differences between them that I looked at was the 65nm vs 90nm process and the 512k cache vs the 128k cache. Those were the 2 main reasons for my thinking/reasoning without searching.
Direct...
There is no such thing as a stupid question, only a stupid answer. That is why forums and other such exist. Feel free to ask away and there is always someone willing to help.
Isn't there a chance tho of the RAM being incompatible once I do decide to upgrade to 2GB? I have always bought the "kits" of dual channel memory. I have never had a problem with these either (prolly just luck there). I have seen alot of horror stories about RAM incompatibilities when...
I do already have 3*40GB SATA hard drives laying around so 1 or 2 of those will be in there. No OS needed cuz I already got that. How bad of a hit would it be to go with the single channel memory for now? That was my only reasoning for the 2*512 kit and then sell it later.
Here is how I am...
I am looking to do an extremely CHEAP build. Here is what I have found on Newegg.com so far:
MSI MBOX 945GM3-F Barebone
Intel Celeron D 347 Cedar Mill 3.06GHz 512KB L2 Cache LGA 775 Processor - Retail
WINTEC AMPX 1GB DDR2 533 (PC2 4200) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory
Pioneer DVR-111D...
yeah I have looked at them but they don't fit with the color scheme that I am going for. I actually found an Intel D875PBZ that was mentioned earlier. I found it on another forum and the guy is sending it to me first to test out since it is in an unknown condition to him right now (he wasn't...
Are those supposed to be direct links to certain motherboards? I can understand the manufacturers (in which none of them have what I am looking for) so I am confused as to what they are supposed to be since you offered no other explanation with your links.
I have been looking at a few other ECS boards cuz I am thinking of getting a purple motherboard to go along with the black Sapphire Radeon 9600XT that I got for the build. I got another vid card too, a PNY/Expert Vision FX5700LE and that has a purple PCB but I would rather have the 9600XT. The...
I understand that there is no "RULE" stating that I have to have something different but this is what I want. What is the harm in wanting one of each? I don't see any harm in it.
Well I finally got my response from ECS and come to fins out that they are only shipping/producing the v1.0 right now and have no set date for when the v5.0 will be shipped/released. That is nice to know since it is almost dead already.... sheesh
The ECS 865PE-A7 supports dual core Intel chips but it comes in 3 versions. I emailed ECS to figure out which version of the board Newegg.com is selling. I am thinking that it is a total shoe-in if it is the version 5.0 that newegg.com is selling. I can get that mobo and the Pentium D 805 for...
I would like to keep it Intel for the fact that I already have an AMD rig in the house (g/f's).
I don't mind obtaining used parts so that isn't a worry.
You could pop the chip in and try to see if it will boot. If it doesn't boot no big deal (except that you'll have to get a single core chip in order to flash the BIOS) and the chip will not be hurt. If it does boot then one of the newer "dual core supported" BIOS's must already be loaded and...
I am going for a color themed build for a rig for my daughter. I would like to keep it Intel for the fact that I already have an AMD rig in the house (g/f's). I am looking for a motherboard that supports the following:
Color = Black, Purple, or Black/Purple
Video = AGP only
Memory = DDR...
can someone better explain to me the table on the VR-Zone website about the vcore mod to the CPU???? The default vcore for my Celeron 2.0 is 1.525.... how much do ya think it will need to get it to 133FSB stable? Which pins do I need to connect? Thanks for the help.
well my board will not go over the 133fsb under any circumstances so I don't think that the fsb mod is necessary. If you want to you can go and check out some specs and stuffs about my board. ECS P4S5A/DX+ <---- that is the mobo that I got and the fastest processor it can handle is a P4 3.06...
I have a socket478 non-mobile Celeron 2.0 and I an wonderin if the vcore mod will work for it. I have tried to put it to 133fsb but it won't stay stable and my board doesn't allow for the vcore to be changed. I got a good cooler on it and would like to bump the vcore up a bit to be able to run...
