any news on the Dell 2707WFP?

Just doing a Google search and came across this, doesn't appear to be anything new since March. I am hoping that the price on this is at a good position (~$1250-$1500). It seems to be a good compromise on resolution and size. Need to get either a 24" or a 27" for my media center...

A pivotal moment in my computer build

I had a similair problem when trying to upgrade an older Socket A system, but the key with the A64 architecture is that the memory controller has nothing to do with the mainboard, since it is all integrated on chip. When the Revision E3 (E6 maybe?) chips came out and added 250 memory dividers...

Media Center will not start in Safe Mode

I'm having trouble with our media center computer, three nights ago it stopped booting normally, taking it to the Safe Mode boot list (where you pick between Last Known Good Configuration, Normal, Safe Mode, Safe Mode w/ Networking, Safe Mode w/Prompt, etc.) and no matter what is picked it...

    Uninstalling Grub Boot Loader

I haven't touched my Linux partition since I installed it and I want to clean that out, along with uninstalling GRUB, which is prohibiting me from changing my Hard Drive configuration. I am concerned that simply running fixmbr or fixboot will erase the partition table, and thus clear my data...

So I just yanked an entire USB port out of a computer...

Hey all, I was running downstairs to get something, and I had a spare box I've been working on that was on the floor. The USB mouse cord was across the room and I tripped over it and took the mouse out, which yanked the prong inside the usb port out of the computer and dented up the usb...

    Preparing a Benchmarking Suite

Hi all, I want to establish a benchmarking regimen with games that are locally popular. I was wondering if anyone had any information on how to benchmark the following games, along with any links to some solid timedemo's, or how to make timedemos. Modern Games: Wolfenstein: Enemy...

How long does a processor last

Hah, I used a Pentium III 500 Mhz for 7 years until I got my present rig, and it's STILL running downstairs as a temporary media center. Our local elementary schools still use Apple IIe's for the Oregon Trail and other educational programs. CPUs last as long as you want them to. Jaimie

Hi, Will ECC RAM work with my processor (3400+ Newcastle) and motherboard (DFI LanParty UT nF3 250Gb)? The reason of asking is that my normal RAM is being RMAed at the moment, and I have access to some ECC RAM that I could use in the meanwhile... Timely response would be appreciated...

    First time builder

The problem lies in the power supplies bundled with cases, not the Fortron 500w you selected. My case came with a power supply, which actually became really useful when I had a ThermalTake cop out on me :( . I purchased the Fortron as a replacement, and it's an amazing powersupply, obscenely...

    Im going 64 bit

Nothing wrong with going cheap. I bought an Athlon 64 2800+ Socket 754 last september, and it is an amazing chip, hasn't failed me yet, I was able to hit 2.43Ghz. Can't beat value!

    Switching Motherboards

Hi, my motherboard, a Soltek SL-K8AN2E-GR, has failed me and Soltek wants me to RMA it. However, they will not pay for shipping to Taiwan. Considering this is an $80 fee, and the motherboard presently retails for about $75, it is not worth the hassle. I have decided to purchase a new board, in...

1GB of RAM suddenly reads as 256MB

OK, Sorry to ressurect an old thread, but I don't feel it's necessary to create a new topic, considering this is continuing discussion. I was able to test my memory in a different computer last night, and both sticks read as the intended 512MB, and combined it was 1024MB, exactly like it...

1GB of RAM suddenly reads as 256MB

I'm not interested in what the RMA policies are, I know that part of the responsibility is my own, despite not running out of voltage specs. All I want to know is: What went wrong? Why did it go wrong? Which component(s) is/are bad? What do I need to start worrying about financially...

1GB of RAM suddenly reads as 256MB

I have not overvolted the RAM, I ran it at the specified specs of 2.8V. The CPU is not overvolted either, by BIOS settings (1.5v), however, CPU-Z reports it at 1.6v constantly, no idea what's going on there, as it won't let me lower voltage through the BIOS when I try, it automatically jumps in...

1GB of RAM suddenly reads as 256MB

1GB of RAM suddenly reads as 256MB

I'll try it on a friend's comp tonight. But why would a stick of RAM, Corsair XMS even, suddenly blow half the stick? And why are the two sticks together showing up as 256MB instead of 768MB?

    4-pin to 3-pin fan adapter

Hello all, I recently installed my FanMate2 on my Zalman 7000Cu CPU Cooler, and I am amazed at what a difference the noise levels are when I turn it down (for quiet times and music). I'm fairly convinced I should purchase a fan controller for my other 5 case fans so I can turn the fans up...

    Impressed by A64 2800+ - 700MHz overclock at default 1.5v

I am extremely pleased with my AMD64 2800+ Newcastle as well, I got to 2.43Ghz, which is 630Mhz, (approx. 35% O/C). I can hit 2.48Ghz prime stable, but anything above 2.5 immediately fails prime. Settings: 9x270 = 2,430Mhz 166 Memory Divider (DDR 442, 2.8v which is board max) 3x...

PIII Slot 1 CPU Questions: Upgrade Options

Hey, I've got a Dell downstairs from 1998, it's running a Pentium III 500Mhz in a Slot 1. I'm primarily using it as a file server/media (music only) center/folding box downstairs. It is running Windows 2000 Professional. It has 128MB of RAMBUS memory. I have since upgraded to my present...

Is it still wort it to buy socket 754 platforms?

I have an AMD 2800+ on a Soltek SL-K8AN2E-GR, and it is able to overclock extremely well. I am currently running it at 2.43Ghz from 1.8Ghz Stock. That is a 35% Overclock. Based on my experience, I think Socket 754 is still a great platform, and a good option if you need to use an AGP card.

I'm building a new cheap computer

Socket 754 Supports the TNT2 if you have an AGP slot. In fact, I am running a 32MB TNT2 right now as I await my 6800 Ultra's shipping. You won't be able to play much, but it's worth it. Also, I really would reccomend having 512MB of RAM, no matter what the processor is, as memory really is one...
