With a recent introduction of Canon S2 IS its older version (S1 IS) can be had for about 250$ if you can find a good deal online.
With 10x optical zoom (38-380 SLR equivalent), image stabilization and numerous manual features it might be what you are looking for.
Canon S1 IS Review at dpreview.com
I have just read it on Slashdot and could not resist to post it here:
"Carnegie Institution researchers have learned to produce 10-carat, half-inch thick diamonds at rates of about 100 micrometers per hour, which in the diamond biz is blazingly fast. And these aren't cruddy, yellow diamonds...
IMO Raptors in RAID 0 is way overkill.
Sure, games will load a couple of seconds faster, but is it really worth the extra couple hundred $$ for you?
You are not likely to notice any differences during the gameplay.
You are right. I would suggest you try out Knoppix (or any other LiveCD Linux) first. It's also a great recovery tool for windows systems. I.e QtParted is in many respects equivalent to Partition Magic. Finally a LiveCD like Knoppix allows you to try linux without messing with your hard drives...
If you are on dial up you can order a free LiveCD from Ubuntu here. They even pay for shipping :).
I am sure you can use a floppy to boot and install from CD then. I am not sure about LiveCD, though.
Welcome to AT. Start by reading one of the AT buyer's guides (i.e last guide).
Once you get a better idea of what you want, come back and ask more specific questions.
1) Edited: In the terminal change the directory and type: "./FAH5-Linux.exe". I assume you have execute privilege. If not then you need to change them (as root, type "chmod +x FAH5-Linux.exe").
2) Do you use LILO or GRUB?
I have not heard that Kubuntu is any less stable than Ubuntu.
Ubuntu is a GNOME based distribution and AFAIK Kubuntu is a modified distribution with KDE instead of GNOME. Perhaps instead of Kubuntu you could try something KDE based like Knoppix or Mepis. Or stick with Suse.
Also, I wouldn't...
I second Ubuntu.
AFAIK, Linspire isn't free, so I wouldn't spend $50 or thereabouts just to try it.
Also, all distributions come with a bunch of applications on the install CDs (from email clients, web browsers through office suites and programming tools). Fedora install comes with a much...
In general - yes. It could be a bit cumbersome, though, depending on the details of your setup.
It's usually easier to transfer files the other way, since linux reads well all windows partitions.
IIRC, X850XT won't work in the SLI setup.
If you need to go with 2GB of memory I would have chosen Patriot sticks PDC2G3200LLK at monarch for better latencies.
Thanks everybody. I do not mind FAT32, as long as the partition is large - 100G. (I even thought about using 3-4 different 30G partitions, but that would be the last resort).
Nothinman - Do you mean I can create a 100G FAT32 partition under Linux? Will Windows read it?
Thanks for the replies.
I know about the NTFS support for Linux and in fact I use it (read-only). I cannot risk 'experimental write support' - the risk of loosing data is too high.
Any other ideas?
Here is the problem:
I have got a lot of documents that I need to be able to access from both OSs. However WinXP does not recognize the Linux ext3 partition at all, nor can Linux write to the NTFS win partition.
I have set up a separate FAT32 partition for the data, but it is restricted to...
Sell the AGP card and go with a PCIe motherboard.
If you can't afford a good PCIe card now, buy MSI RS480M2-IL with integrated graphics and buy the video card later, when you can afford it.
If you do not game IG is plenty enough. But you still have a PCIe slot and an option to upgrade later...

^^You need to realize, however, that the books are usually outdated by a couple of months at best. Best up to date info can be found online if you know...
Fedora does NOT offer out of the box support for mp3 files (nor NTFS support for that matter). You can get both from third party vendors though.
The software included is top notch - office suites, programming/developement, internet.
I believe there is a Hebrew support, but how good it is I do...
I think you are missing the point: Microsoft does not patch IE security flaws often enough.
It's better to be able to update Firefox even a couple of times a week than be a sitting duck for months at a time with IE.
If you do not want to update Firefox - do not. But at least you have an option.
Why don't you just define the matrix you want, without calculating it, just type it in.
For a simple code, for a general n you can use:
[zeros(n,n-1),[ones(n-1,1);0]]+tril(-1*ones(n,n),-1)+eye(n)
Does it help?
