You are absolutely correct. I guess this is an enthusiast forum, so only the high-end stuff will be given the thumbs up, but this is a timely reminder that it's all relative.
I just upgraded my PC to the following:
- Antec 300 case
- Antec Neo Eco 450W power supply
- Asus M4A87TD/USB3...
Not sure what games you play, but GT Legends / GTR etc are incredible on the audio setup in my sig. America's Army works well too, nice enemy placement.
I'd definitely go for a nice stereo receiver / integrated amp and bookshelves. I really enjoyed that setup with my 120 wpc Harman Kardon HK-3480 receiver. Had a 10 inch home theater sub hooked up to the sub out as well, and it absolutely caned any computer speakers I've ever heard. For the best...
No idea what people are talking about with Creative's bloatware drivers. I've used an SB Live for years, and now have an Audigy 2. I downloaded the drivers for both and all I get's a very minimalistic control panel. Never used the original CDs though, so perhaps that's what I'm missing (if you...
GT Legends. You'll want a wheel though.
Actually this'll run very nicely on a lot less video card than you've got, but it's such a sweet game I had to throw it in!
Check the video input settings on the TV, and make sure they're not set to Composite. If they are, all you will see from an S-video connection is black and white.
Hmmm, let's see. In your words, 'Vista blows'. I'm assuming then, that for you, XP did not blow.
To me, it would seem strange to subject yourself to the worst of two products for your uses.
So, yes, use XP until, for you, Vista doesn't blow.
My Dreamcast had a mouse and k/b. I loved caning my friends in Quake 3 who had to make do with controllers hahahahahaha! Oh and Soldier of Fortune was cool ...
Here's another take on this. There is no GT on PC. If you want GT, you have to buy a PS3. It's irrelevant whether it looks better / worse than some PC FPS game.
Of course your topic isn't really about this ... but just my 2 cents.
Yeah, lag'll kill you unless you use good software. Buy a nice cheap hi-def TV card (Compro Videomate T-200 works well), and use Dscaler with the S-video input.
Buy some headphones. For computer audio there's no better bang for your buck. For some cheap, pretty good ones, pick up a Sennheiser HD-497 (they're $40 US on eBay). In my opinion they're a little more versatile than the SR60s, especially for stuff that needs a soundstage (like gaming). I used...
Lol, I'm the other way round. Decided not to upgrade to Vista for a couple of years, until I need to run something (ok maybe want's a better word, ie that new super-cool racing game) that XP and DX9 won't handle.
I even confirmed this with my wallet, and ordered an Audigy 2 off eBay, which as...
What games specifically can't you run well that you would like to?
Try popping a new video card in and see if that gets the fps / detail level to where you want. You're laughing with PCI-E, so any video card upgrade you do is easily transported if you decide to go for a full build down the...
Yep, I agree. I used to have a 6800, but gave it to my brother and replaced it with a $20 Geforce 2 MX (switched to Linux for a year or so).
I just bought a 7600 GT last week, and it's a decent upgrade from what I remember of the 6800 performance. It's not really a night and day difference in...
You could just go for a 7600 GT. They're cheaper, and I've got an Antec 350W power supply, and it handles mine perfectly. Gives nice graphics in GT Legends, GTR, RFactor etc too.
No, you're right they do. But only if the amplification can handle it. If the 'phones aren't getting enough power they'll sound worse when the volume is cranked.
Very kind of you to be interested in my humble rig! I'm surprised how it's held up given I built it two years ago. If I hadn't given away my vanilla 6800 I'd still happily run that, though the 7600 GT is noticeably faster (got it this week, my $20 AU Geforce 2 MX was *killing* me).
I'm a...
I looked at a Swift Sport for about $27K onroad (Australian). It was nice enough, but I thought, man for that money I could get a sweet car! Ended up getting my Dec '98 model MR2 GT w/ only 50,000 kms on the clock in perfect original condition for $25K instead.
So, not too cheap, but you get...
I specifically bought my '98 MR2 so I wouldn't be emotionally attached to it. It's a Toyota you see, although a really fun one to drive!
It's Alfas that get me head over heels, but they always end up costing me the earth to maintain. Plus they're bad luck for me, I found a beautiful Alfasud...
