    Dimension 9150 PC w/19" LCD $699

Yeah what's with all the Dell hate, anyone who says they can provide exactly what is in a Dell package (even minus warranty) is a liar. There is no way you could build a machine like that, with LCD and VALID licensing for OS / software for that price. But if there is, please feel free to let me...

Need advice on a budget laptop

I was on the Lenovo site looking at thinkpads and it said the Z series line started at $799 which I thought was an awesome price for a widescreen laptop (14inch). I would suggest this, if it actually was possible to price a laptop at 799, I clicked the link and even with celeron proc it was like...

inphonic cellular family plans? Anyone have any experiences?

Well as for the minutes I never go above 300 mins or so (peak) so even if I could get double the minutes for $20 more it'd be money wasted. I havent seen any family plans that were cheaper than this. I was going to split this with my sister who also doesn't use too many minutes. I was wondering...

Best protection for connecting to a a wireless network that's not secure?

most routers have wireless access lists, where you can add the MAC address of a card, and permit only those MACs to access the network. This shouldnt be a problem unless you arent around and she wants to connect extra (unknown ) machines.

    Windows XP SP2 wireless

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone could help me out, I want to run my Linksys WRT54G with SSID broadcasting off, however windows xp sp2 does not seem to allow me to connect to such a network. I created a new connection with the proper SSID that I entered, but it won't let me connect? I know...

need to change a Router into an hub/switch.

All you need to do is plug the cable modem into a LAN port rather than the WAN port of your Belikin router and it will become a switch, anything plugged into the remaining 3 LAN ports will get IPs from your modem/router combo device.

Why doesn't my laptop detect the network?

I am not sure if you are having the same problem I am, but I am using the Linksys wrt54g router, and I can't connect to my router either unless SSID broadcast is enabled. I am using the built-in windows wireless support, and I am patched up to SP2. I don't know why, but once I turn SSID back on...

    breakout box for soundcard

Hi, I was wondering if anyone knew specifically of a breakout box that I could buy without having to buy a soundcard. I would like to be able to have 2 sets of RCA stereo inputs. It's just for me to plug two consoles into so it does not need to be of exceptional quality, I would like to feed...

Need a wired/wireless router that will limit bandwidth to users

well from the site when they list features they seem to list 'bandwidth allocation' separately as opposed to 'QoS' so I assume they mean other than prioritizing bandwidth it will also allow you to do what TheLizardMan wants, which is to limit bandwidth based on MAC/IP/Port. Or a combination...

Need a wired/wireless router that will limit bandwidth to users

hmm now that i look at the forums it appears that sveasoft firmware will let you allocate bandwidth as well as do QoS. I'm not a big fan of flashing fancy customer firmware to my stuff when I don't need it, but it's definitely something you could look into.

Need a wired/wireless router that will limit bandwidth to users

well, i don't think there is a cheap solution to what you want, but what you can do is get a linksys router that is in the WRT54g family and obtain the sveasoft custom firmware for it. I don't think it will let you split the bandwidth but it will let you prioritize your traffic over his :) so as...

Linksys WRT54G doesn't play nice with BitTorrent

Yeah I've capped my upload to 20K/s (my total upload is ~ 45K/S). It also doesn't explain why it works fine (no change in settings) from behind my D-Link router which is where it's at right now.

    Which RAID would you recommend?

Thanks for all the replies, I think I'll stick to RAID1, it seems the easiest/most foolproof array to maintain and should suit my needs perfectly. This is more of a project between me and some friends, so I'm not worried about getting sued or anything ( I hope!) :) can anyone recommend a raid...

I keep losing my DSL connection

Is your modem a modem/router? If it is you can try logging into the modem to check if it is set to 'on-demand' mode instead of always-on. The only thing though is that you seem to have been working fine all this time so it's probably not it. But it might be worth it just to double check (I just...

    Which RAID would you recommend?

Thanks for the replies guys, just to give you an idea, I don't expect it to grow much more beyond 500GB or so... perhaps 2 250GB drives mirrored would be the simplest thing? (least amount of headaches too) mechBgon, about undercutting the capacity, would that really be a concern since with...

    Which RAID would you recommend?

Hi I'm thinking about setting up a small file server for a network and wanted to set up a RAID. Just had a few questions, I tried googling but apparently the term RAID is a popular word and I didn't get exactly the info I needed for my setup. Basically it'll be a repository for anime, probably...

Linksys WRT54G doesn't play nice with BitTorrent

cctyler thanks for the tip i will try using an alternate BT client, i think azureus is on all the computers, i like it a lot (even donated money :) ) anyway its just so weird cause it works fine on my dlink so i dont think its hogging CPU, maybe the way it handles BT traffic is not to the...

Linksys WRT54G doesn't play nice with BitTorrent

yeah i have the ports forwarded, though the problem is not with BT itself, my whole network seems to lose connectivity to the internet until the router gets rebooted. It seems like something is causing the router to flood itself. I really cant figure it out at all, if there was a general...

Linksys WRT54G doesn't play nice with BitTorrent

Well I originally posted this as a reply to a thread about Linksys vs Dlink router but decided that perhaps more enlightened AT members can help me out with this problem. -- I bought a WRT54G to replace my Dlink 614+ so I could get wireless-g + use the hacked firmware available for the...

    Linksys vs. Dlink wireless routers

I would def go with D-Link, here is my story: I bought a WRT54G to replace my Dlink 614+ so I could get wireless-g + use the hacked firmware available for the Linksys. Well, everything installed fine, flashed to wifibox firmware, and everything was humming along fine. an hour later...
