2000 S70 SE Auto Tranny Dying?

See my quote from above: "I'd advise getting another opinion from another shop, Volvo dealer" Do you want to ask and believe everyone online who can't physically see you car or do you want a real Volvo tech to look at at and actually diagnose the correct problem? I was a Volvo dealer...

2000 S70 SE Auto Tranny Dying?

I believe that your trans is a 4 sp auto like my '95 turbo 850 but $3K (US?) from an independent shop seems high. Here in WI, I know that that if I need another trans, I can easily find a used one for about $300. My '850 has 200K miles on it and for an original 850 AW trans, that's alot of miles...

Why do people in the US give too much of a damn about ridiculously fast cars??

Super fast V8 cars are just FUN! I have a very modified '85 "Stang in mint condition with a 393W stroker pro built carbed race engine, 550 HP, 520 ft lbs torque (dyno'd fwhp) plus has a 150 NOS system that I havent yet tryed with this engine (doesn't seem necessary) and the car's just an...

    Jay Leno's ZR1 drive

I'd love to have one of those. Truely one of the coolest "affordable" (~100K) cars ever. That being THE first production car, can you imagine what that'll be worth in future years to another collector if Jay ever sells it?

    Rear wheel drive SUCKS!

Around here, most with RWD cars use a set of 4 snow tires every winter. I've done that for years with my RWD turbo Volvos (745T, 945T), and FWD 855T too. I can safely drive by everyone else on the roads, pass 4WD PUs, SUVs in a blizzard with several inches of snow on the roads. Without snows...

China's Geely wants Volvo from Ford

Until over two year ago, I was a Volvo master tech for 22 yrs and can tell you that Volvo USE to be a great little car company (made great cars that lasted forever) UNTIL '98 when Ford bought them out. After that, you could see the attitudes change within the company and trying to keep up with...

Looking at a new small SUV...

If the car comes with that choice and it's car with reliable turbos, always get the turbo version. Have two turbo Volvo's myself and won't own a non-turbo version of the same as I like faster cars even though they burn premium which cost $4.70 per gallon last summer at one point and get worse...

Problems that come with high mileage? [72k]

As for "high mileage", that all depends on the maintenance that car received and the care it'll get as time goes on, with ANY car. I've seen engines destroyed in less than 30K miles because the oil was never changed and I've also seen the opposite, Herb Gordon's '66 Volvo 1800S with 2 million...

I just learned that Nissan needs a franchise license to sell the GT-R

As for Shelby, there are dealers selling them on Ebay so if you buy one, what, you can't get it repaired at any Ford dealership even though it's a Ford and under Fords warranty? I've worked at car dealers for almost 30 yrs now so I find all this hard to believe. As for the idea of "$500K...

    A bit frustrated.

They misdiagnosed the original problem rather than 1) degrease, 2) run and/or drive, see exactly where the fluid is leaking from. You shouldn't have to pay extra because they just assumed it needed a gasket, seal or two. The car was brought in for "fluid leak" and they charged $$ to fix that...

Oil light coming on at Idle

Don't try removing the pan, bearing caps yourself. It's not a job for someone w/o experience and you can definitely make it worse. How about a used engine, assuming a good one can be found, replaced cheaply?
  17. E

    A bit frustrated.

Whoever's "working" on your car is a HERMAN and doesn't know what he's doing, period! Take it back and tell them that you're not paying more to have the leak fixed again. Obviously, they never fixed the original problem. Be sure to tell them to test drive the car and check it for leaks BEFORE...

    Crate engines.

US Crate engines are made for those who just want to replace their existing engine with something better. It's an easy bolt-in job. Commonly people with US made "muscle cars" or Hot rods buy these to replace stock engines. Anyone can buy any import engine assembly too if they want to and have...

Looking at buying a 95' LEXUS ES300. Needs engine work. Wondering if it's worth the trouble.

Simply NO! You'll need a used engine plus labor and odds are good that many other things aren't good either. Look for a better car and realize too that an ES is basically a V6 Camry.

    GOLLY GOSH DARN Volvo

The only probs I've ever seen with those was the wiring to the sensor and I'm sure that's still your problem. Has nothing to do with ABS on that car. What year S70? If '99 on up, it's a recall and any dealer can run the VIN and tell you if your car gets it. It's money for them but free...

    GOLLY GOSH DARN Volvo

    GOLLY GOSH DARN Volvo

Having been a Volvo dealer master tech for 22 yrs until 2.5 yrs ago, I can tell you that no XC ever had a GM trans, just the 6 cyl S80s. You have an Aisin Warner trans. Was the ATF ever changed? If not, that'd be why the trans died, not due to anything else. Even though Volvos literature says...

"Hi, I am EvilHorace and I read things on the Internet. They are fact. The Internet does not lie." No, how about being a Lexus dealer tech. Try $5-$10K for those batteries in a Toyota product. Check your dealers parts people if you doubt that. So far, they're still under warranty. The...

What is better for the car, start let warm up or just go?

A block heater will heat the coolant up but not the oil. If you've ever had an oil temp gauge in a car, you'ld know that it takes a very long time to see oil temp increase compared to coolant temp. Way back when, I use to have an oil dipstick heater and it worked well. I'm not sure they even...

What is better for the car, start let warm up or just go?

Petroleum oil is like jello at -20 but if you use synthetic oil, it'll flow and you can just drive away. The only reason I might warm up my car first is if I want heat inside when I get into it rather than be driving in a cold car for 5-10 minutes. Usually, I just drive it cold but don't get too...

"Let's see how reliable it is first. All the other manufacturers have a track record to analyze. This Genesis is too new." Having been an auto tech for over 30 yrs now, (mostly with high end cars like Volvo, Lexus), I can tell you that it's highly unlikely for any car company who's...

What to do with my old car?

As mentioned in another thread, it's rare and unlikely that it'll just be a bad oil pump. It's more likely that the cause is either a clogged sump screen, bad sump to pump o-ring(s) or worn bearings. "I asked the dealer why my Honda and Toyota don't have this problem" Toyota 3.0 V6s were...

    2010 Mustang Cobra

I've always liked that new body style since it came out in '05 and especially the new GT500s. At least it's finally becoming more available, affordable vs the '08 Shelby GT500KR (for example) which is unobtainable for most. Seems that a few are bothered by the lack of an independent rear...

What to do with my old car?

It's possible that your oil sludge problem might be caused by a partially clogged oil sump screen. If so, you might be able to get lucky by running a can (or bottle) of Motor Flush through your engine, found at any auto parts store. You add it to your oil, run the engine for a few minutes...

    Replacing Oil Pump

If you do have low oil pressure, the cause is RARELY a bad oil pump. You can waste alot of time and money by guessing. The first thing you have to do is check the pressure with a manual gauge. You'ld also be wise in checking around at various Ford forums on that topic. On some cars it can...

Any experience with PDR: Paintless Dent repair?

"Do any of these places do light scratch repair?" You'ld probably be better off at a detail shop. Although a body shop can do it, it's often not enough $$ for them (especially if they're busy) and odds are they'll try to blow you out of the water rather than try to help you reasonably. I...

    Who's owned a convertible?

I've always hated convertibles. Even when the car is new, the interior road noise level is terrible. Wind and water leaks are common. Items left inside are less secure than with a hardtop. If you keep the car long enough, eventually things will go wrong with it including rips, tears, stains...

So, if GM gets rid of Pontiac, Saturn, and Saab what do you keep and what do you call it?

So, if GM gets rid of Pontiac, Saturn, and Saab what do you keep and what do you call it?

Buick needs to go and I've never understood why GM sells both GMC and Chevy Trucks as to me, they're the same. Way back when, like 40 yrs ago, GM could sell all those lines and they use to be more different than they eventually became but today, many are exactly the same vehicles with slightly...
