F.E.A.R. - All SP Games Should be made like this

While I'm admittedly not the FPS afficcionado plenty of people are (I've really only played this, Far Cry, AA, and Marathon extensively), I thought FEAR was excellent. The combat, as everybody says, is incredible. The firefights make the rooms look incredible. The AI is brilliant, and if it's...

I need the best bang for the buck basic Nvidia Linux supported card

Turbo cache cards make use of system RAM rather like integrated graphics systems do; non-TC cards use onboard RAM.

What else can I throw at my new 7800 GTX?

If a game doesn't have AA, force it through the drivers.

Help me overclock myh NF7 please!

Ummmm.....11x22 is rather larger than 217x10.5. That could be your problem. ;)

    9800pro getting 4fps on high in bf2

They don't cater to most people, they cater to enthusiasts who might buy a new video card to play one game.

    ATI Radeon X700

Buy a 6600GT for $45 more if you want to play new games like BF2 at decent res and detail.

    7800GTX.... I AM IMPRESSED!!!!!!!!!!

Holy crap. What's wrong with you people? The first half of his post was factually true. The NV40 may not have been a "blowout" but the 6600GT definitely dominated the midrange where all the money is made. Plus, it's an awesome new video card. I'm not buying another card for at least 1.5 years...

    What exactly is ATI?s SurroundView

I'm pretty sure it's like Nview...you can use two PCIe video cards to get four displays, and then a fifth display off the integrated graphics of one of their motherboards.

    X800XL, XT or 6800GT?

If you're running on a 5200 right now, I'd just get a 6600GT. :) Those can be had for $165, so I'm not sure how you think it's got the same pricetag as an X800XL. The jump in performance will be huge, and it'll save you money. Which is always good. Plus, this way you can upgrade in a year to...

    Best Motherboard Even Available Yet???

The "pipes" on a video card refer to the pixel pipelines, which are used in the card to calculate how different pixels are lit and shadowed and such. The most pipes available on a video card is 24, on the new GeForce 7800. The "lanes" refer to how much bandwidth the physical PCIe slot (and the...

Do you guys REALLY think there's going to be a 7800 Ultra with 32 pipes?

They get the same number of cores/wafer with this as with the 6800(GT? Ultra? I forget. Read Guru3d's review if you care).

Why are there Nvidia or ATI fanboys?

SM 3.0 is more efficient than 2.0, though, isn't it? So even if you can't use the additional features, you turn them off and get better fps than with 2.0. :)

    hi-res gaming

Yeah, cheapo monitors suck. :( Or perhaps they rock, because it means there's not much point in upgrading your video card, so you don't worry abou it. ;)
  17. S

Why are there Nvidia or ATI fanboys?

nVidia is evil because they bought out 3dfx right after I got my first videocard from them (Voodoo 3 3000! w00t!). Then they suck because my next videocard was an $80 Radeon 7500 that played all the games I own when nVidia didn't have any decent cards <$100 that I knew of. ATI has better image...

    7800GTX AGP

Guru3D says Nvidia has no plans for an AGP version. AGP may have a huge userbase, but most of that userbase is on a Geforce MX or 5200.

Help needed on info about my v-card

I think that's just Leadtek's series code or something. The Leadtek 6600GT is actually called the PX6600GT for no apparent reason. Seeing as that's a Turbocache card, I doubt you can overclock it much.
  20. S

    which 6600gt pci-e?

Anand has a good roundup of 6600GT cards somewhere; the Leadtek takes home the crown.
  21. S

When should I expect prices to fall?

Not to mention prices on many cards have already fallen. Newegg has most of their 6600GT cards for ~165 now, whereas two months ago they were 190+.

    Should I keep my BH-5 PC3500 memory?

I doubt you're gonna turn any profit selling them to somebody and buying cheaper ram, especially with shipping costs.

How much can I safely overclock this setup???

That's TCCD, though, not Winbond. Laymen: It *should* handle that voltage, but it's not guaranteed, and I decided not to get UTT/BH-5 and push it because I saw too many people killing it after a few months. *shrug*

    201mhz FSB?

I don't know what the tolerances are for a 6800, but from what you've said it sounds like the vid card's overheating. Or else it's a software issue having nothing to do with your hardware. In any case, I promise an "overclock" of 15 MHz on the cpu and 1 MHz on the ram won't do anything.
  27. S

Anyone suggest a Video Card update?

Wait until G70 (tomorrow?) and r520 are both out, then size it up. :)

3000+ Venice and Intel 630 help

Cheap Venice can hit anything from 2-2.6, depending on the chip. DRAM timings....using a 3000+, you'd have to go to over 270 fsb, so you're not going to get ram that can hold 1:1 timings at that speed. No idea on the Intel.

    San Diego 3200+ 3500+ or 3700+?

The Venice and San Diego are both great ocers, so if you can oc a cheap Venice even to 2400, you probably won't be CPU limited in games and you'll save yourself several hundred dollars, with which you buy buy that new Nforce 4/vid card. ;)

    Blue Screen of DEATH! (fixed)

If the default AGP speed is 66 that's fine too. You're just setting the speed (in MHz) of the AGP bus and making sure it's locked (as opposed to increasing as the fsb speed increases).

Why's my 3DMark score change so much (2/3!)?

Oh duh, I'm an idiot. Had on forced AA/AF. :o Though I thought I'd had it on before and it didn't matter, as though nVidia'd disabled that in their driver optimizations.
  32. S

Why's my 3DMark score change so much (2/3!)?

Does the 6600GT have thermal throttling or something? I ask because I ran 3DMark05 last night and got 3965; I ran it this morning and got 2664. My CPU score is more or less unchanged. Yes, the settings on my entire computer are still the same. I checked. The vid card's a Leadtek, oced to 546...

    atitool program for nvidia?

Just do a manual oc in coolbits. Ignore the auto-overclocking option, it sucks. I got all kinds of crazy shader issues and artifacting in HL2 with it. (Anybody care for a white gun?)

The OC results w/ DFI LANParty UT nF4 Thread

It does. A board doesn't earn that much hype from that many sources without earning it. As an example, a quick test just to see how high I could go let me put my fsb/htt up to ~340 before it stopped booting into the bios. I'm running at 300 right now. (And now that I think about it, I might not...

How much can I safely overclock this setup???

470 @ 2.8 volts? Not so likely, is it? The Winbonds all love high voltage. Those 500 speeds you see are @ ~3.4 volts. OCZ's VX are guaranteed to hit 500 MHz @ 3.3 volts, but those 're hand picked. So that 470 is plenty likely, but not at 2.8 volts. Mushkin Redline takes 3.2 volts to hit 480...

    Athlon 64 Venice Stock Cooling

I've got a completely stock cooling system and a 3200+ running @ 2.4. It idles 35 and under Prime95 stress/stability test goes to no more than 42. Might get another degree or so with the video card running hot, but at those temps I really don't care. And yeah, it's just thermal tape.
  39. S

How much can I safely overclock this setup???

3200+ will make you rely less on your fsb; you really need to be able to hit 300 fsb (all right, htt) to get a good 3000+ overclock. 3400/3500+ is just a waste of cash.
