Building a new system and what to get.

Thanks, I did indeed mean the video card, but from my understanding the 6600gt's don't really need them.

Will that PSU handle PCI-e alright? I'm still a bit green on these.

    MSI NF4 w/ AMD 3200+?

I was looking at the MSI NF4 boards, and noticed on their website that they have the following information: CPU ? Supports Socket 939 for AMD® Athlon? 64FX/64 processor ? Supports 3500+, 3800+ Athlon 64FX 53, FX55 or higher CPU Please pardon my ignorance, but I was looking at...

my first DIY - advice needed for newbie

Personally, I feel that if you are not going to be gaming, I wouldn't spend the extra on a PCI-e. You could build a really nice budget machine when you don't have to worry too much about gaming. Your set up looked nice. I'd go ahead and get 1gig of ram as it can never hurt if you use things...

Monarch's 3500+ 90nm price is sky high! Why???

3200+ was $203.00 on the 17th and today it is $216.00...keeps going up! =)

Should I start buying my parts now as I find them?

Its strange, at ZZF, the corsair value ram has gone up 30.00 and the 3200+ has gone up 16.00 in 2 days. I know it always goes down over time but sheesh, a small spring in price the past couple of days =). Overall I'd agree, prices do go down over time hehe

Help me build a $1500 gaming PC

Just to throw some sticks on the fire, its an individual's personal choice on what to spend on their next PC. If they want to spend 700, great...if they want to spend 7,000, great. No need to say they are silly for spending that much.

    First Gaming Rig Build

Well 2k is a healthy budget. If I were you, I'd stray away from the SLI model unless you really plan on using it. I'd stick with an NF4 board (comes out Friday), spend your money on a quality video card, eVGA, LeadTek, BFG 6800 GT or Ultra PCI-e and go from there. You look like you have done...

    Which 939 mb to get.

You did mention it had to have AGP right? I really think a lot of people enjoy their MSI: 139.99 http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/...jsp?ProductCode=241143

    First Gaming Rig Build

Do you have a budget going on? There are a lot of threads out there...mainly the big argument will be do you really need SLI? Here is a not SLI PCI-e model: Note the MB doesn't come out until Friday and it sounds like you may have a bit higher of a budget to get the 6800 GT or Ultra. I...

Alright, convince me why building is worth about $200-300 over a Dell

Edward, I have to disagree on this point. I think one of my first posts was Dell vs Build your own, and right now I am really excited to get my hands dirty again building my own. If you are looking for a PURE cost standpoint, Dell is going to win almost everytime hands down and I am sure...

    First Build since 1997...Comments Please

Here is a nice non-SLI option that appears to be coming out next week (if the time isn't bumped) http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/...jsp?ProductCode=241158 If you don't care about the SLI option, this should shave a bit off of your build. Your build looks similar to the one I've also been...

    First Build since 1997...Comments Please

I decided not to go with SLI as shown in my previous post, however, I did think that a PCI-e system might be the best choice and waiting for the NF4 boards w/ PCI-e over the current NF3 w/ AGP. I think this is more of a personal preference than anything else. Are there any great arguments for...

Enermax does provide the PCI-e ready type PSU's in the 485 and 420w flavors. I went ahead and made that change since it was a matter of about $20.00. Thanks. I appreciate all of the feedback, I know you all get swamped in these type of posts. MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum nForce4 Ultra Athlon...

Thanks all...I really have enjoyed this and will continue to enjoy this. It looks like I might be having some fun with part of my tax return on this =). I've altered the ram to put in some value ram which actually dropped the whole rig < 1,000, so we'll see about upgrading the video card to a...

Thanks for the heads up on the memory. I've been back and forth on this one, but after reading that post, I think Corsair Value (as others have mentioned) may be a great way to go. NEC burner will come eventually...wasn't a high priority at the very beginning of the build, as I still have...

    First Build, Request Feedback

I don't 'need' an SLI system per se. There seems to be arguments for an against. I'd like to be able to play most of the mainstream games, but I wouldn't consider myself a hardcore gamer in the sense that a few FPS would make a difference. I'd like to get the most bang for the buck, but also...

I have been lurking and researching for a while now and think I have a computer that I would enjoy. I am in no real rush to purchase, so I am sure prices and technology will change in a couple of months, however, I'd like to get a base model on paper that I can easily modify. Here is what I...

I have been putting together my list of components recently, but the case seems to always be up in the air. DIY vs PrePackaged (Dell)

I do appreciate all of the feedback and the information provided is quite wonderful. As far as the labor time involvement, to me, that is part of the fun factor =). DIY vs PrePackaged (Dell)

I think the main reason is because I have dealt with Dell in the past. I have not tried any of the prebuilt AMD solutions. I felt that a big benefit to the DIY method is also the satisfaction of doing it yourself =) That is a non-material cost that is not incorporated =).
