    New PSU, Dead RAID.

Yup. That's what the RAID was used for...an independent movie I shot and edited. I figured that it was a fairly inexpensive way to get the TB of storage I needed for such a large video project, and it was my intention to have it backed up....but the failure beat me to it. What's weird is...

    New PSU, Dead RAID.

PC froze up on me last night, so I turned the sucker off and attempted a cold boot. Dead as a doornail. Wouldn't start at all. Figured it could be the PSU, mobo or the actual power switch. Borrowed a friend's PSU, hooked it up, started right up. All clear? Nope. Once it came back to...

"Kill Disk" killed my disk! :)

It was easy. I just reversed the flow of the flux capacitor, as suggested by Insomniak. I didn't bother to change the jumper setting from "slave" when I took the WD out of my old computer. And the Seagate system drive was set to "cable select" out of the box. Maybe with some drives those...

"Kill Disk" killed my disk! :)

Thanks to all of you that actually bothered to help! I double checked the drive and re-arranged the jumper settings on the drives (one was set to cable select the other was set to slave) - and bam, PC booted without a fail. Windows recognized the drive in the Disk Management screen and it's...

"Kill Disk" killed my disk! :)

Thanks for the help, guys. I'll probably give Partition Magic a try. Otherwise I can always pick up an OEM drive for a decent price. I don't think I'm going to use Kill Disk again.....

"Kill Disk" killed my disk! :)

Thanks to the few of you that are trying to help. My IDE controller is fine because my system drive is working - system drive is master and the erased data drive is slave. The jumpers are correct as well, I checked that before I installed the drive. I suppose I could swap out a different...

"Kill Disk" killed my disk! :)

Thank you so much for all of the retard comments. That's really helping me fix the machine. Yeah, I'm aware that plugging the thing in probably wasn't the best move, but nothing else was working. And for the record, the retard maneuver was the last thing I tried. I had tried to trouble...

"Kill Disk" killed my disk! :)

I've got WinXP installed on a new Seagate 120GB IDE hard drive, no problems. I used Active@ Kill Disk to wipe out a WD 120GB IDE hard that was in my old computer. And now, when I connect it to the slave on the primary IDE cable, I always get a boot error and my system restarts. If I leave it...

    HELP WITH SLI SET UP

If you don't want to troubleshoot it yourself (which is what most folks around here will probably suggest), you might want to tell us where you live as it might not be convenient for me to recommend a place in Minneapolis if you live in Honolulu. :)

*Official* Venice Core Price Guide *semi-updated 4/27*

I've put off my build for too long. I'm just gonna pick up a Winchester or a Clawhammer. I seriously doubt that I'll notice that much of a difference between 400 and 333 when I fill up all for DIMM slots. Best of luck to the rest of you....hopefully you get your Venice CPUs relatively soon!

*Official* Venice Core Price Guide *semi-updated 4/27*

Cool, thanks. With any luck I'll be able to get that sucker on Monday. I really wish NewEgg, ZZF and/or Monarch were going to have them by the 18th, but beggars can't be choosers, I guess.

*Official* Venice Core Price Guide *semi-updated 4/27*

Thanks, that's good to know....do you have a link for that? That's good news, except now I'm more likely to keep waiting for the Venice....and keep putting off my new computer! ARG!

*Official* Venice Core Price Guide *semi-updated 4/27*

What a pain. I still can't find an answer on whether or not the new Venice chip will work without a mobo BIOS update. And a few weeks ago instead of buying a chip I decided to wait until April 4 to see what was going to happen with the A64 prices once the new core came out. And then I kept...

    *** Official ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe (nForce4) Thread ***

Has anyone received this board recently with updated BIOS already installed? I'm thinking about picking up a Venice chip and I can't find a straight answer on whether or not the mobo will boot without an updated BIOS. I obviously can't update the BIOS if the board doesn't even boot, so if the...

Wasn't AMD Venice supposed to be released today?

I understand that there are three cores out for the 3500, but what confused me is that the same serial number (ADA3500ASBOX) is listed as two different cores on two different sites. ZZF shows it as a Newcastle, NewEgg shows it as a Clawhammer. But either way it's $267 versus whatever the...

Wasn't AMD Venice supposed to be released today?

Alright, so I checked further and here's the deal: both NewEgg and ZZF carry the following 3500+ retail box: ADA3500ASBOX. However, ZZF lists it as a Newcastle core, and NewEgg lists it as a Clawhammer core. Which is it?

Wasn't AMD Venice supposed to be released today?

I see at NewEgg that the $267 3500+ is indeed a Clawhammer, not a Newcastle. What's the difference? They're both .13 and not 90nm, correct? I don't suppose it matters one bit since I won't be doing any overclocking. Err....at least it WAS at NewEgg. Looks like it isn't in stock anymore.

Wasn't AMD Venice supposed to be released today?

And to think I waited until today to see what was going to happen with the current AMD price hikes. Maybe I should just buy the damn $267 Newcastle so I can build my system already. Sick of waiting!

Recommended HSF for 939 A64 (winnie or venice)

Thanks for all the input....I'm probably gonna go with the retail version, although I still don't know which core I'm getting. The Venice was supposed to be released today but I'm not seeing it anywhere as of yet, so at this point the 3500 Winchesters are still sitting at around $300 retail. Ugh.

    Fast CPU or SLI

Regarding the power connections, I asked the same type of question a while back. My eVGA 6800GT came with a six-pin adapter (2 4-pin molex connectors from PSU connect to single 6-pin connection on graphics card). Your power supply might also have a PCI-E connector. I've got the OCZ...

Recommended HSF for 939 A64 (winnie or venice)

The only reason I'd go for an OEM chip is if it's cheaper than the retail box. Obviously, I'd rather have the retail version because of the warranty, etc. But recently A64's have jumped up in price, and occasionally you'll find an OEM chip for much cheaper than the retail box version, in which...

    Questions on New Venice cores

The mobo is the Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe. It's in the mail, actually. This is my first build. As far as I know, it should POST and everything just fine without having to update any BIOS....maybe it just needs to be updated to take advantage of the new features on the Venice chip. Of course, since...

    Questions on New Venice cores

Yeah, I don't know why I even bother holding out for something new...it's just going to be old in a matter of weeks, anyway. But I am interested in seeing how the prices play out...since I plan on upgrading to 2GB (4 DIMMs) eventually, the improved memory controller with the Venice core is...

Recommended HSF for 939 A64 (winnie or venice)

I might give it a go later on - overclocking that is - but I gotta make sure I'm able to build the thing first! :) I've checked out the Zalman before, a little spendy from what I've seen, but not too bad. It looks like a huge mofo, though. And if I'm not mistaken, it requires a bracing...

Recommended HSF for 939 A64 (winnie or venice)

But if I can get an OEM CPU and decent HSF for less money than the retail box would cost, then I'd rather go that route. I'll definitely get the retail box if the price is right, but I don't want to count out the possibility of saving money by going OEM & separate HSF.

Recommended HSF for 939 A64 (winnie or venice)

I'm waiting until Monday (hopefully not any later) to see what happens with the A64 prices when the Venice core is released, and right now I'm thinking about going with an OEM CPU and buying a HSF separately. I'm going to pick up the 3500+, although I'm not yet sure which core I'm going to get...

    A64 Price Jump

Thanks...I'm gonna wait for Venice just to see what happens with the prices (unless it doesn't ship on or around April 4th as planned), but I'm still curious about the memory issue. Does anyone know if Venice is the only core that supports 4 DIMMs at 400? It looks that way, but I just want to...

Just got 2 New Asus SLI MB's

Out of curiosity, why did you build 2 separate - but almost identical - PCs? Is it a science experiment or something? I know this doesn't answer your question, but your setup struck me as odd, to say the least.
  36. S

    A64 Price Jump

Alright, so I've read that the new Venice chip will support 4 DIMMs at 400, whereas the current Winchester (I don't know if it's a "bug" or just a limitation) knocks 4 DIMMs down to 333. In that respect, score a point for Venice. However, I've heard that the Winchesters run cooler than the...

    sudden spike in noob level

    A64 Price Jump

As I said earlier, I don't plan on overclocking. I'm way too new at this stuff to risk blowing up my new system because of ignorance, especially since I've spent the last six months saving up for this thing. But regardless of overclocking, at this point I'm just shooting for a 3500+ 90nm, and...
