Doesn't hurt to have a backup PSU. After reading (MaxPC) a review/labtest of the modular PSU units aren't as tough as the temp rises. I would get PC Power & Cooling at the high end or Antec to save a buck.
You should un-overclock (?) while troubleshooting/diagnosing.
Run memtest86...
Hmmmm.
Latest BIOS?
IRQ conflicts?
Forceware 81.98 drivers?
Driver Cleaner assisted uninstall?
OS?
Power issue? Can you test all PSU rails and report back voltages?
Can you run at spec'd clockspeeds/timings for testing?
It's either hardware or software related.
Hardware:
Specs of the keyboard and mouse (vendor/model). Any fans or any other electrical devices around? What kind of monitor? Try keyboard and mouse on atleast 2 other PC's not just one.
Software:
Reinstall the software with the latest...
Tomorrow I'll check if I can get my Knoppix can mount my USB Zip 250. Rebate's advice is good. Buy an external USB 2.0 enclosure so that you can connect a CD/DVD burner, 3.5" IDE hard drive or 2.5" hard drive. Since it's in a laptop you can't use EaseUs Disk Copy 1.0. SpinRite will cost you...
Ya, get a post beep code or video code. Try replacing the 3V CR2032 CMOS battery with another, they are cheap and available at Safeway, Walgreens, RiteAid, etc. Let us know.
But it was only for 32 bit Windows? Am I to assume that you are NOT running the typical 32bit version of Windows XP?

SR would be what you claim if it were consistant and reliable and THAT is my ultimate point. I only referenced blackviper for an additional source of how to turn SR off. I work at the PC repair bench all day long and more often than not SR fails! So what you gonna say to THAT?! huh?!
The problem could ALWAYS be power, just so you know. You wouldn't know that until you test for it and power issues CAN affect RAM. I just wanted to confirm your PSU was delivering the necessary amount of power and my suggestion was a follow up in case something easier didn't work (like...
Not sure what safe temps for chipset are. Their resilience is varied I'm sure.
You should definately get some compressed air to dust or system against dust, heat and static build up. Meaure the chipset fan width by length and I'll see if I have a replacement.

Just a couple of reasons I don't use system restore. If system restore were more consistantly reliable or ran pre Windows then...
OK. I have seen this intermittently before.
Check your jumper settings on all 4 of these drives even if you think you know. Only mount and connect the Primary Master hard drive on master jumper settings to the IDE controller using an EIDE (80wire/40pin) cable. Then report back after...

Try SpinRite to diagnose the drive. Install...
Try swapping out some hardware like RAM and hard drives and start fresh. Let us know if you are reproducing these error messages after swapping and reinstalling.
As far as hard drive diagnostics and recovery go I don't think you can beat SpinRite http://www.grc.com/sr/spinrite.htm
If you get a new laptop hard drive get this one, I can't find a better deal ANYWHERE, can you? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822146046
Probably safe enough. No one should have a clear answer to this because it is subjective to the circumstances of your situation. Monitor the BIOS for temperature info or install a Windows utility. I would start by shutting down the PC and removing the HSF for a compressed air cleaning or replace.
Do you have BIOS version 1011 installed?
If you go to page 33 of the manual .pdf http://dlsvr03.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/sock754/K8N-E_DX/e1883_k8n-e_deluxe.pdf, it will tell you about the RAM configuration. If you can't figure it out after that give ASUS support a call if you can find a phone...
Yes. In my opinion ERUNT is better than Windows System Restore. I have SR fail on many occasions and it's a system resource hog. I always disable SR.

I would pick up a PSU tester or use a digital multimeter to test the rails of the PSU.
If that doesn't work you could try extracting your PC hardware and setting it up in a
HSPC Tech Station
I would also definately replace your UPS first thing, I like Belkin UPS.
Give us a layout of the drives and configurations you have in your PC. For example what is connected to both IDE controllers (primary and secondary) and what are the jumper settings set to?
I would replace the hard drive that is making noise. SpinRite is a good program to have for hard...

Bring another PC over to Granny's house and connect it to the internet. Try using the cable modem and router 1st then eliminate the router if you must but make sure you have a software based firewall enabled.
BTW, SP2 is usually fine. It's an unstable and cluttered OS environment that makes...
I never jumper drives with CS. I manually set them so I know how they will get detected. If I remember correctly this improved boot time in some systems because the BIOS doesn't have to search and assign the drives.
I would just install your old hard drive into the new PC and transfer any important data. After that I would format the old secondary and configure Windows to store your swap file on this drive. Note: make a list of data you want on the new PC before doing any of this to make sure that you...
Not much time to read thoroughly but did you load CSS 1st and adjust the video settings and teke it off software video rendering and choose openGL? Check the refresh rate. If you have XP SP2 then the refresh rate you pick in your video settings should stay the same once you enter your game but...
Check for the BIOS setting, "Play and Play OS" and set to yes. It depends on the BIOS, the mouse, the interface and the OS for support, what kind do you have? PS2 or USB? Most PC's with USB have no problems recognizing USB mice at any time but as far as PS2 it's dependant on the BIOS mostly.
Not sure what dynamic disks are but 2 drives with different capacities running RAID 0 should increase hard drive reads/writes time a little. You can't remove a drive from a RAID 0 array because it's half of the array. With RAID 1 you might be able to remove a drive because it's a redundant...
make and model of the mad dog floppy drive? Check your USB drivers in device manager. have a usb drive around that you can try installing. try the floppy on a Windows 2000 Pro or XP PC where the drivers aren't necessary and see if it works.
