My 1.5 year old ATI Crossfire x800 just died. Pretty bummed as I would expect the card to last a lot longer. Anyways, looking to get the best card possible without having to replace the stock power supply on the Dell 8400. I believe it's rated at approx 350w, but will need to verify. I heard...
Thanks for the info.
I do not notice the drive activity you mentioned, I am looking into getting another stick of 512MB.
So you guys think it's better to add another 512 stick before trying another video card?
That's the problem I have. I would like to find out for sure if a pci card will...
I bought my wife Sims 2 for xmas as well as a new Dell Dimension 3000. It has a P4 2.8Ghz upgraded with 512MB of RAM. Sims 2 is choppy and freezes for 5 seconds every minute or so. The Dell has a built-in Intel Extreme 2 graphics card which I believe is the weak point. I need advice in a budget...
Thanks, everyone. I was hoping the ELSA would speed up things when photoediting, but I guess that depends more on the speed of the HD and/or the processor!? Guess I will post it for sale and see if there is any interest.
I am getting an ELSA Gloria II as payment for some work done. I know the Gloria II is a high end professional graphics card, but for my situation, will it make a big difference?
I presently have a Matrox G400. I rarely play games. I use my PC to surf mainly and do semi-serious photo editing 10%...
Thanks for your reply, Bartman. I did some searching around and found that it is a known problem with the VC820 and certain SCSI cards. The work-around for now is to disable the boot option for the cdrom(s). Intel is suppose to come out with a fix with the next bios release.
I have just "upgraded" my SCSI (Adaptec 2940UW) system (CDRW, HD, CDROM) from an ASUS P2B mobo with a PII-400 to an Intel VC820 with a PIII-800. I used to be able to boot from the SCSI hd, now with the VC820, it only looks for a floppy when booting. It does not see my SCSI stuff at...

You'll have to wait a bit longer then. Essential's site has the CUSL2-C at $20 more than it was earlier this week!! That's even $9 MORE than they are selling the CUSL2 board!!
The same thing happened to my friend when he installed Win98SE as a full version. He later installed his win95 first then upgraded to win98se and the error went away.
...if I already have access to RDRAM. Are the 2 boards the same except for the fact that the CUSL2 accepts sdram and the CUC2 does not.
...or to rephrase, is there a difference between the i820E and i815E other than the fact that the i815E accepts sdram? Other than that is one chipset...
Thanks for your replies. Very good points. I still would like to know, economics aside, if there is any downside to having an i820E mobo. Advantages and disadvantages vs the i815E mobos.
