How would you deal with this RAM issue?

I have a pair of Crucial Ballistix modules that are giving me problems. At first I was running them at the low end of their voltage range. I had no problems with this arrangement for months, then I started getting exception errors in Windows. I bumped up the voltage after finding out here I...

Which comapny who makes nVidia cards is best.

There are some reasons for choosing different makers of video cards. eVGA for example builds completely according to the reference board spec, or at least, that's what they're known for. So an eVGA card is as close to the nVIDIA reverence design as you can get. BFG cards are pre-overclocked...

    WTF 3DMark for cell phones?

Not surprising really as the whole telecommunications industry seems convinced that everyone on the planet wants a single device that does everything rather poorly instead of a few devices that do a couple of things rather well.

    Case advice

Is it me, or do all Thermaltake products look like rip-offs of other products. I mean, they're not exactly the same, but they're really close to other designs. If it were me, I'd check out CoolerMaster stuff before I'd go with Thermaltake. The CM cases are a little bit more money, but then...

How to deal with a RAM issue?

These seem to have non-standard timings also. Ironically, my own memory is failing me now. My newegg order lists the 6464Z505 as what I bought and the Crucial site lists the timings as 2.5-4-4-8, but the motherboard autodetects them as 2-3-3-8. I was pretty sure when I bought them they were...

How to deal with a RAM issue?

Well, that was my question. I didn't really know what the standard voltage was for Ballistix. I assumed the motherboard ran the memory voltage properly, but apparently not. If they are made for 2.8v, then that's fantastic.

How to deal with a RAM issue?

I had 2x512 PC4000 DDR of Cruical Ballistix installed in a Gigabyte GA-K8N-SLI motherboard and was experiencing random lock-ups, reboots, and BSODs. These started out in some online games, but soon affected other games and eventually even my web browser. Each time, Windows reported the...

Flaky bios access and high temps

Alrighty, I'll give that a shot. I am using a USB keyboard, but I never had trouble getting into the BIOS before. And it does recognize the keypress, but would at times, just hang. To be more specific. I'd reboot, and hit the "DEL" key to enter BIOS, I'd get the message "Preparing to enter...

Flaky bios access and high temps

Recently I was getting some lockups when playing a few games, I chalked it up to the games in question being in beta. Then Dungeon Siege II started throwing exceptions and it had been working fine. The other night I reboot, and it won't let me into the BIOS setup. It would reboot into windows...

    SLI mode problem

Yep, thanks that worked. I had to update the firmware on both cards. Once they matched, everything worked without any problems.

    SLI mode problem

I have a Gigabyte K8NXP-SLI mother board and recently purchased a second GeForce 6800GT video card. Unfortunately ZipZoomFly did not list the new product number, so instead of getting the version 2.0 card, I got a version 2.1 card. I've tried to use them to get into SLI mode, but no dice. The...

    3D Windows?

This has been around for a while, but it's not really spherical, just kinda angular. I don't think I could get used to looking at things at an angle.

Some nice Engrish in the GA-K8NXP-SLI manual

At the beginning of the MB Intelligent Tweaker section, below the screenshot, it says: "Incorrect using these features may cause your system broken. For power end-user use only"

    Gigabyte GA-K8NXP-SLI, Thermalright XP-120, and Panaflo FBA12G12M

Yeah, the HSF should fit without a problem and taking off the stock bracket and backplate isn't hard, but that Gigabyte DPS card will likely get in the way.

    Strange mouse problem in WindowsXP

It's a new GeForce 6800GT. I'm running some beta drivers so, that's a good starting point. I'll back down to a previous set and see if that clears things. Thanks.

    Strange mouse problem in WindowsXP

So far, I believe I've only seen this happen within the game World of Warcraft, however, it affects the desktop as well and doesn't clear until the machine is rebooted. I don't know if it's the game that's causing it or some problem with the mouse drivers or maybe even a USB problem. Has...

    Gigabyte K8NXP-SLI SATA problem

You need to play around with the Integrated Peripherals part of the BIOS. I couldn't discover what the Scheme was, but you need to try enabling and disabling different SATA raid channels until your drive is detected, hopefully on channel 2 (1st sata channel after the IDE channels).

Gigabyte K8NXP-SLI SATA - which one?

Alright.. looks like I was totally off. I thought the Sil ports were SATA II ports, but it looks like the Sil ports are only for setting up a RAID-5. Pretty much useless unless that's what you're doing. The nForce ports support SATA II and NCQ.

Gigabyte GA-G8NXP-SLI install and resolving SATA problems

If you only have one SATA drive, you don't need any extra drivers. The driver the manual mentions is the RAID driver. Hitting F6 during windows install is for adding SCSI drivers and/or RAID drivers. You don't need them for a standard installation. First, you'd have to be using 2 or more...

Gigabyte GA-G8NXP-SLI install and resolving SATA problems

The drivers on the CD are mostly the nVidia drivers, the display driver, Forceware drivers, which includes the network driver (important). You pretty much need them all, except for the nVidia Raid driver. Is your SATA drive being recognized or are you running off of an IDE drive?

What Makes a PSU SLI Compatible? Got Answers Here!

I went with the PC Power and Cooling Turbo-Cool 510 SLI. I've used them for years. I had bought one of those Ultra PSUs, but the PCP&C unit feels more substantial. The modular cables were nice, but not very flexible and also not long enough for a full-tower case. I'm not sure if the PCP&C...

Gigabyte GA-G8NXP-SLI install and resolving SATA problems

I thought I'd post how my new computer build went over the weekend. The Gigabyte motherboard was something new for me. I've built a lot of systems in the past, but I tend to go with ASUS boards as they have given me the fewest, i.e. zero, problems. I wanted to try something different this...

How did I break WindowsXP by changing drive settings?

I was running a SATA Raid with two WD Raptor drives on an ASUS P4P800, booting off of it even. It was working great. However, I knew upon upgrading (which is what I'm doing this weekend) that I wouldn't be able to just plug in the raid drives and have them work in a new system. So, my plan was...
