How do single people live and have a decent life on what they make?

Not all of us decide to live where we are. Some of us actually relocated for a better job market vs. cost of living. And then some of us actually got lucky and found someone to spend the rest of our lives with, which only added itself as iciing on the cake.

    Whoo, rice crackdown to begin

I wish Atlanta would do this. Nothing more silly than seeing someone with a $500 Honda toting along a $700 exhaust and making 100dB of sound trying to get up to highway speeds. Of course, that article doesn't seem to make a big FYI in the area of 'modified' vs. 'legally modified'. So, what...

    Sony Rear Projection LCD, WTF??

You need to spend some time on avsforum, PG. LCD, DLP, and LCoS are all examples of digital imaging technology. LCD, or Liquid Crystal Display is a transmissive technology, just like LCoS, or Liquid Crystal on Silicon. This means light passes through a medium. DLP, or Digital Light Processing is...

Are there any monitors with HDCP support, or are any coming any time soon?

Isn't a monitor nothing but a tunerless display? You can get 37" 1080P (1920x1080) LCD monitors with HDCP-enabled features (Westinghouse has one and is carried by Bad Buy).

Pickup Truck Wars: Chevy poised to take crown from Ford

Yeah, I know. Because they wouldn't be caught dead paying what the MSRP lists them for. As such, the manufacturers have to decentize (reduce their sale value) in order to get them sold.

    Strange OS & HDD problem

Before I replaced the motherboard in an XP Pro computer, I knew there was something strange going on with one of my hard drives (H). First, there were sporadic inability to write to the drive by the XP (as part of its normal writes). Anyway, I replaced the motherboard, installed XP Pro, and...

Pickup Truck Wars: Chevy poised to take crown from Ford

American versions of foreign work trucks are not work trucks. Also, if a truck 'works for me' then it is a work truck to me. Just because a lot of the local, state, and federal governments like to 'buy American' doesn't mean the rest of civilization stopped working and using trucks in the process.

I can't increase my screen resolution past 1024x760

Same, here. I normally run my monitor at 1600x1200x60-72Hz, and it is capable of doing that. I am using a three-year old NVidia Ti4200 card that supports that. Works just fine under W98/2K/XPpro, but not using this.

I d/l, burned, and ran this Live CD. Interesting, but limited in being video-friendly. Anyway, while trying to see what other loaded resolutions were available from the KDE desktop my PS/2 mouse froze. I had to re-plug to get it back. This is on an Abit IT7 (Max2 V2).

    Why is this so expensive?

Microsoft makes their own reseller rules, which include OEM channel software. They also seek to enforce those rules. But, if you thought about it, it is ignorance since Microsoft, during your registration of the OEM license, isn't going to know if you bought a whole computer or just and IDE...

    Why is this so expensive?

Um, S&D is when the supply falls short of the demand and then drives pricing up. This certainly not the case. I think its more like consumer ignorance on alternatives. It isn't like you are going to find the OEM on the shelf at Best Buy. Also, some people have enough personal disposable...

Wireless & Wired PCs cannot see each other's shares

I always thought sharing, shares, etc. were user and or group-based in XP, or simple login-based if one uses Simple File-Sharing.
