Laptop Power Issue--battery, AC, or other?

http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/foru...port/questionanswer.do?threadId=757265 I found this link. Suggests that the Voltage Transformer Board was damaged. Any objections or similar laptop experiences? (I hope I can even replace this...)

Laptop Power Issue--battery, AC, or other?

Dunno if PP2040 is what you'd want--the model number is M700. Also, when I push the battery charge button for testing (just found out about that), I see a full five LEDs. This doesn't seem very hopeful to me. What should I do?

Laptop Power Issue--battery, AC, or other?

Trying to determine if something here needs a replacement. It's for someone else who's seeking my help. I already know what I'd do if I had other geeks to confirm with, but this'll have to do... A lady who has no kids, dogs, or other disturbances in her home, claims that her computer...

    Case of the 53s

Alright. I have made progress at last. I changed the configuration of the problem comp's connection. I made the IP 192.168.0.17 (last number doesn't matter if it's not 1, I think)... used the default Subnet mask, and the default gateway is the server comp's internal network IP...

    Case of the 53s

It seems peculiar to me that running a 'repair' on the problem comp's network connection to the hub generates a 'Failed to renew IP address.' error box IMMEDIATELY instead of after 30 seconds of trying. That just doesn't seem right. *tries to reinstall it again*

    Case of the 53s

I'm...just about ready to throw the thing out the window. And it's too hot and my head is scrambled from all the stress and fatigue. All I know is that there's a computer behind me that I'm trying to get onto this network (linked by Ethernet cable through a reliable Netgear hub)... Other...

VGASave ain't saving me now! Can you?

Alrighty. Dawned on me after the other AGP card failed to even be detected... The Windows Repair must've asked my stepdad for chipset drivers all that time ago, not video card drivers! So I went ahead and got those and, aside from an odd installation problem I cleared up later, all is well...

VGASave ain't saving me now! Can you?

Well, it seems to be a blight common to ATI drivers all around. (I also find that the GeForce FX 5200 I popped in here right now produces no different results, so I'm in a state where no new video card drivers can be installed.) What happened, as far as I know: Goofball stepdad commandeered...

VGASave ain't saving me now! Can you?

OKAY! Apparently, Windows put Vgasave back for me after I uninstalled it. How kind. This allows me to boot using just the AGP card again! Back to square one!! Alright, so eh, how do I get ATI to cooperate? Or how do I get Windows to install a device for this darn thing? >.<

VGASave ain't saving me now! Can you?

Lotta help YOU bums are!! >.< Well, I pulled a rabbit out of my FRICKIN' hat for this. So listen up: I used a PCI card that I had that I knew was made before Windows XP was released. (Matrox Mystique) Even though modern comps don't support older AGP cards, PCIs are nigh-timeless, it...

VGASave ain't saving me now! Can you?

Well, looks like I've just signed into the 'You tampered with VGASave' dunce club. Yippee. My parents' computer was having all sorts of problems earlier, so I assisted them with running Windows Repair, which fixed almost all the relevant problems. (Their network still wasn't working, but it...

Epson Stylus CX5200 Unknown Hardware Issue

In helping someone out with their troubled printing situation, and discovering that their replacement printer/copier/scanner combo isn't even what they really need, I took a look at their old printer. I've seen this issue before in other printers and have been unable to solve it: the printer...

    Bizarro Net Access Problem

Turns out that Grandma herself had tried to remove Norton because she hates it. That makes this decision pretty easy for me--AVG and Router from now on! XD

    Bizarro Net Access Problem

AHA!! Their Norton Internet Security is TOTALLY botched up. I'll have to reinstall it entirely. It was so botched up that you couldn't even tell that it was installed on the computer. Either a novice repairperson or an expert hacker was responsible for this.

    Bizarro Net Access Problem

For novelty's sake, the error number I get when trying to use Windows Update (Web) is Error number: 0x80072EFD. Running the solutions offered by Microsoft related to 'This error may occur if your Internet connection or configuration is preventing access to the Update site' (two solutions...

Foo, nothing working so far. I'll try the anti-virus program just for the heck of it, and look at an HJT log.

    Bizarro Net Access Problem

*sigh* Nope. The program ran its course and reset the computer, but nothing changed. For the heck of it, I switched to using the USB hookup to the Net instead of the Ethernet hookup. This, I hoped, would give me more information about the cable modem. Instead, all I got was a new device...

    Bizarro Net Access Problem

Hm, thanks a lot. I'll check this out. I highly suspected that the removal of some spyware Grandma had before I came (I can't find any now, but there are sure enough traces, and I know she had e-mail viruses at one point)...would've damaged her WinSock. I don't know enough about WinSock to...

    Bizarro Net Access Problem

Hm, I believe you're onto something. (And yes, I know the dangers of exposing the computer to the Internet--I was merely simplifying the situation for someone who would not normally be at risk for anything.) I think I have encountered this problem enough times before... Yes, the 'Repair'...

It's bare basics, brother. Take away all things that could be restraining network activity, BEFORE putting them back. Besides, she uses so few things online that she is at minimal risk--as long as she heeds my request not to check her e-mail till I'm done here u.u Anyway, more info: -...

    Bizarro Net Access Problem

Yeah, I hate SP-2. Always have, always will. I don't even have to be an advocate of DOS or maintaining old program functionality to have a serious bone with this behemoth. I'm working on my grandma's comp (on-site, many miles from home). (Hey, I get free food out of it! So shove off! XD)...

Compaq laptop refuses to use modem

Ah, good news folks. I managed to figure out where the modem was inside that crazy Compaq 'masterpiece.' I unhooked it, booted the computer through (and got some BSODs), then put it back in and booted again (more BSODs). Afterward, the computer had no problems whatsoever! Modem works...

Compaq laptop refuses to use modem

Sorry...just not happening. This stupid 1200XL-111 doesn't let you control much of anything in the BIOS. I can disable the serial port, parallel port, and sound card. That's it. Told you it's useless. I need to find a way to clean out and remake the internal system settings, but I don't...

Compaq laptop refuses to use modem

I have here a Compaq Presario 1200 with Windows 98 SE installed. The computer worked fine for over a year but developed a problem that, among other things, prevents the modem from being used. The modem is properly detected (and I have successfully reinstalled the drivers before), but upon...

    What's compatible with my 2 x 256MB DDR RAM?

HAPPY ENDING! Fern, you make a good point...though I implied earlier that I am not only frugal but I really don't like throwing out functional hardware ^_^; Well, I got it working!! The motherboard I chose to get was a board from Syntax (same as the SV266AD) with an SiS chipset (all the...

    What's compatible with my 2 x 256MB DDR RAM?

Any mobo but the SV266AD and the KT600-A, natch... Until I know why it didn't work in those two different, fully functional boards (both of these support 400Mhz FSB, for modernness reference), I'm waiting on word of a board that supports older PC2100 memory of some kind.

    What's compatible with my 2 x 256MB DDR RAM?

Well, okay, it was only a silicon flesh wound... I posted on here earlier about how I couldn't get any motherboards to work, and now I have found a solution. Here's what happened: My parents were wanting to replace an ailing K7S5A PRO motherboard. Since we aren't big in pocketbooks, we...

Ay. *sigh* Well, I guess this is just a forum and not a true 'you ask we answer' place. Thanks for the attempted input guys. 1) XP CD repair is for repairing Windows. The only thing it does to hard drives is delete and create partitions. Let's say I want to keep everything that's on...

    Motherboard rebel without a cause...

I've been doing this kind of stuff for a long time. I can even tell whether or not I did a good job applying the heatsink just by running the computer and looking at temperature monitor programs. The continuous high beeping is AFTER the first beep code, and as I've read, it has a different...

    Motherboard rebel without a cause...

Oh hey guys. Back again. Well, I tried the (new) KT600-A motherboard with my hot 'new' vidcard, the old Duron, the same DDR RAM (because that's all I have), my hot 'new' 450W power supply, and the heatsink and fan. (Yes, I plugged it in the correct slot--it's nutmeg color compared to white...

    HD from Hell.

Well, my little brother's hard drive has done it again. I spent all this morning trying to fix his comp, because his hard drive occasionally is not properly recognized. (For example, when it should come up SAMSUNG xxxxx... on the POST screen, I instead get QAESUNE xxxxx... , the size is...

    Motherboard rebel without a cause...

Alrighty... Well, I posted about this before, but now I have some more information. My parents' comp currently has a motherboard that's been damaged by heat, causing it to hang indefinitely when it resets (or if the board's simply too hot). So, I've been meaning to help them get a new...

    Strange Beeping!!

Yes...this is what I was afraid would happen. This is a very unusual beep code. I already looked up the same things you guys did. What I didn't tell you is that I also tried PCI video cards as well as not having any video cards in at all, and the error remained unchanged. The board is an...

    Strange Beeping!!

Well well... I'm trying to fix up the parents' comp again... This time, they decided to get a new motherboard, but after putting it in, they could not get the computer to work. I investigated, tried every last thing--changing memory, taking out all the cards, using different/no video cards...
