I picked up one of these from Amazon a few months back for the same price. Its a multifunction unit (fax/scan/copy/print). Ink cost is one of the lowest around as well. It also does some nifty crap like cleaning/priming the print heads occasionally during periods of low use to help prevent...
Yeah, I've been w/ packet8 for 4yrs now, 3 of which were on the yearly plan. Roughly 16 bucks a month for unlimited voip. Plus, the only real 'downtime' I've had has been due to ISP issues.
At $300 bucks each, wouldn't you be almost just as well off getting some boxes from dell with the OS already included?
New equipment, less headache. Take the old stuff and sell, donate, or combine the drives into one box and make a NAS or similiar.
I've been using AVG for years and am very pleased with it. No probs whatsoever. Of course, I'm also not the type of person who would click a "YOUR COMPUTER MAY BE INFECTED WITH THE Gullible.User VIRUS - CLICK HERE TO REPAIR IT" popup. :/
Ok... here's my "review":
Pros: Nice features for the money, easy assembly, organized cabling.
Cons: Noise. The unit is certainly louder than my Qbic... this is likely due to the small diameter/thickness fans on the stock cpu/chipset hsf. It's conceivable to replace these fans (one on...
Just received mine yesterday... pretty nice box, glossy piano black. I purchased it as a replacement for my recently deceased FIC AU13 mobo/box in my office, but may end up moving my file/media server over to it and locate it in the family room (depending on how quiet it is). Currently the...
It looks nice. Soft/Quiet key action. BUT, I can't get it to work w/ a USB kvm. Not enough juice, methinks. Also doesn't seem to like USB->PS2 adaptors.
Other than that.. it's fine. Has some heft to it as well.
Also dont forget that most inkjet printer inks are not too durable when it comes to sunlight. They'd fade quickly. Plus, if you're printing to any adhesive paper stock, just sticking a waterproof film or packing tape on it isn't going to do anything to protect the edge of the sticker...
You can probably pick up an old school external cdrom that connects to your parallel port. Check on ebay. I can't imagine one of these costing more than a few bucks. Of course, on ebay, you might pay $100 for "shipping". ;)
The free NASlite has some kind of bandwidth limitation on it. I'm currently using DarmaNAS, which doesn't have the bandwidth limit, but has a 2 client per share limit on the free version (3 bills for the unlimited version). I've got it booting off a 128meg CF card and running a software Raid5...
That's great! I can imagine a SFF case with this big ole' growth sticking out the front.
Better yet, why not just stick the whole SFF case inside a dorm size fridge? Along with a dehumidifier, of course.
I'm faced w/ the same problem w/ a sff case. I'm giving up and going back to a monster case w/ 120mm fans. SFFs are pretty, but packing them full of stuff then trying to keep them cool AND quiet is quite a stretch. You might could rig up a couple/few 40mm fans there, but the noise will be...
slappin together a box here w/ an XP3200+ and the only HSF I've got on hand is a GC68 w/ vantec stealth 80mm fan. No plan on overclocking. Will this heatsink sufficently cool the 3200 or do I need to pop for something more extravagant (say, in the 10 dollar range :/ )
Your proposed batch file + task scheduler solution should work fine.
If you're looking for something a bit more elegant, try allway sync. It's free and does quite a bit of fancy syncs, copies, etc. It works w/ Task Scheduler but it will also watch for insertion of removable devices to...
Oops.. sorry.. platform = winxp
Anapod is pretty nice, but since I manage my libary and such w/ winamp already, it was just easier to deal with within one interface.
I just got an ipod photo 60g myseff, and I'm having good luck w/ the winamp + ml_ipod combination. It's free too.
There's also anapod (shareware), ephpod, and several others. Just try them out and pick the one that fits your situation.
RE the Kill-A-Watt gadget. I bought one of these earlier this year. Pretty interesting gadget. Just plug it inline w/ an electrical device and it just starts a timer and kw counter. Let it run for a while, do some math w/ it and your electric bill and you end up w/ a rough monthly cost for...
Yep.. I'm stuck w/ the Saitek issue... picked up an Iogear USB KVM w/ audio for use w/ an Eclipse. Upgrade got backburnered and by the time I tested it out, it was too late to return. Eclipse just flickers on and off when connected to the KVM. I suppose someone could hack in some aux power...
I get excellent results using a mix of water, vinegar, and simple green. Probably around 3/4 water and a couple of tablespoons of simplegreen (just enuf to make the water/vinegar a pale green).
I liked both the movie and the series. The series seemed sortof, uh, colorful, for lack of a better term. I preferred the darker style of the movie.
I remember seeing the original at the theater when opened... it was destined to be panned.. how many movies hand out a 'glossary of terms' to...
I've _tried_ to use linux. I'm currently _trying_ in fact, to set up a debian fileserver for my home. But the problem I have, and I'm sure any other "AVERAGE" user in my situation could relate to, is a lack of TIME. Back in the day when all I had to do after work was to come home and hack...
I got burnt big on the 75GXP ordeal as well. Lost one from a raid0 at home, lost FOUR over the course of a couple of years on a client's server. Warranty replacements (REFURBS) died in short order.
I do have a Hitachi 160g that I picked up a couple of years back and it seems to be pretty...
I'm looking at the LA Times print ad right now. The drive is 39.99 after two rebates. Nuf said. I'll be getting one today to put inside my hacked Fossil Wristwatch PDA. :/
I've been happy w/ the Kensington PocketMouse Pro Wireless. Dongle tucks away nicely into the mouse. There's even a switch inside the "dongle-hole" (oh baby) that powers off the mouse when the dongle is stored, saving battery life. Been using one almost daily for 3+ years w/ no probs.
If you are asking how soundstorm performs, I'm happy w/ it. I ditched my AV710 to save a slot and its worked fine. Even has native ASIO support (no 3rd party driver reqd).
Ok, so provided I go w/ a debian install... I've found instructions on doing a raid setup in which the boot partition sits on a raid-1 array across the drives and the data partition sits on a raid5 array across the same disks. I've successfully set one of these up in a VM just so I can play w/...
Filemaker is great (I started out w/ FM on an old B&W Mac way too long ago) but i can't help but consider the cost per seat. FM ain't terribly cheap. That smartsuite deal is hard to beat. NTM you get a whole office suite, jic you need it.
