I don't use them, but I imagine some people do just to customise their PC a bit more, give it a little personality. Maybe they do so in an office environment to make things a bit more fun - the same reason people put little toys and trinkets on their desks.
Actually the word celebrity can be used as the author has done in the subject :) e.g. "I have no fame" is the same as "I have no celebrity"
:)
</pedantic rant>
Well Scott I took your advice and disabled all unused IDE channels in the BIOS, and also set the pagefile to 2048mb, and the problem seems to have disappeared!
It has been on and off, so I can't say for sure whether the problem is gone, but so far so good! Many thanks - I *really* appreciate...
I love how people who have heard a few unfounded rumours in the press declare that Michael Jackson is guilty. I would've thought that people, especially in this kind of forum, would be skeptical of the media.
Now of course nobody but Jackson and his accuser know the truth, but I believe he's...
Maybe there is some sort of blockage - like something lodged in there? I don't think theres any (road) cars out there that require you to do anything more than open the door, unscrew the cap and put the pump in. I'd get it checked out... if you can manage to drive it to a mechanic :(
Thanks DaiShan,
I'll try testing the USB/Firewire peripherals one by one. I understand that they can increase boot time, but they shouldn't stop it altogether... :/
The PATA drive is about a year old. It has been functioning fine in my old machine since I bought it, and I just transferred it...
Just another thing. If it is indeed a PSU-related issue, could it be because my current PSU has a 20-pin ATX connector, but the mobo has a 24-pin connector? I've connected the ATX12v connector so I didn't think it would be a problem
*puzzled*
Anyone?
Well I did some more testing. Rather than try and explain myself, I'll just list what did and didn't work :)
Windows boots ok when:
- PATA drive disabled in BIOS but powered and connected to motherboard, all USB devices connected
- PATA drive connected, unpowered USB1.0 hub connected...
Does your mobo have the option to view what kind of voltages your PSU is putting out? e.g. if its only supplying 10V on the 12V rail, or the CPU Vcore isn't right, it could possibly be a power issue.
Hi all,
I've been having an odd problem with my new system.
When I first installed XP, it booted up fine. Then after a while, it would pause for an abnormally long time (30-45+ seconds) on the blank screen between the Windows XP Logo sequence (with the moving blue bar) and the blue logon...
I installed a very ancient AMD CPU, I don't remember the exact details, but I was able to insert it the wrong way. It could run comfortably for half an hour or so with no heatsink (shows you how old it was) so I hadn't put one on yet as I was just testing.
Powered up the machine and a small...
I haven't come across a heatsink manufacturer that recommends having the fan blowing air away from the CPU. I'd definitely try both ways and see which is best for you though.
I think a better system would be a beeper/warning alert that detects when you are drifting out of your lane. It also would be deactivated by the turn signal and/or the brake pedal.
We don't need computers to drive for us. We just need people who ACTUALLY know how to drive. Driver training/education in most countries is pretty pathetic. They'll hand a license out to almost anyone who can put their foot on a pedal and twirl the wheel around a bit.
The things I've seen...
Enterprise is definitely a great show that I'd love to see stay on the air, but I definitely agree that the money could've been put to better use. I am in need of a Ferrari, for example.
You can never have too much storage IMHO. Your rig looks pretty high end already, so you're not going to be able to go much faster. You could always save your money for when better components are available.
