SQL server enterprise edition needed for 24/7 applications?

We run SQL 2008 R2 Standard and Enterprise for various apps, and provide 24/7 high availability on both sets of systems. The only difference when it comes to availability that I have seen is if you are doing index rebuilding, where EE offers online rebuilding. There is no downtime with SE, but...

CFML: not sure how this CFIF statement is passing as true

StructKeyExists returns true or false, which means your code is only checking to see whether these fields have a value. Correct code should be: <cfif StructKeyExists(FORM, "photo_file_1") AND StructKeyExists(FORM, "photo_1_select_for_action") AND FORM.photo_file_1 NEQ "" AND...

CFML - cfquery/cachedwithin - does changing 'order by' create new query?

I believe it will be overwritten if you change the order. If you're running CF8+, you can look for yourself; check the cached queries section under Server Monitor and see if two queries with the same name on the same page are being cached or overwritten. As an alternative to caching each...

    Abrupt Wake from Sleep

From what I've read, it seems like some application or service is causing these random wakeups. The folks here cite Windows Update as being a possible culprit, along with a host of other apps. For me it was VMWare waking up the PC. I guess I don't have any more helpful hints other than check...

    Abrupt Wake from Sleep

Check your System log in Event Viewer for any items triggered by the Power-Troubleshooter. This should point you in the right direction as to what is causing your computer to resume. There might also be applications or services which are waking up your PC. I know the latest beta of VMWare...

Getting into Grad school....Tips, Suggestions, Thoughts

I can't comment on what grad schools are looking for in general, as it really varies depending on the school. A word of advice if you care to listen; look for a professor who is doing research in a field you are interested in, and make sure you're going to grad school for the right reasons.

    Logging User Visits to MySQL

I've been asked to do some web site analysis at work...basically our site has a navigation menu and the higher ups want to know what people have been clicking. The website gets about 14 million hits a month from about half a million unique IPs. For the last month or so, I've been appending...

Just got the Gaim 2.0 beta

The one major improvement is that file transfers seem to actually work (woohoo UPnP support). The transparency thing is more of a pain than a feature, and the interface hasn't changed much for the better. Read the changelog here.

    Internet locked out

On another note, not all broadband services have contracts. For the ones tht do, ask them what their policies are if you have to move to an area where you can't get service. For what it's worth, you really should be using your own connection if you're going to be using torrents and whatnot.

Why not get broadband and transfer it to your new place when you move? As far as I know, contracts aren't tied down to addresses. You could also share access with your uncle's laptop using Internet Connection Sharing.
