    Photoshop CS PC Specs?

I can say that after working for 2 years on a laptop with 512MB RAM, the move to 2GB made SUCH an enormous difference in photoshop, it's incredible. I tend to work with large images and several files at once, sometimes with 20+ layers, so my old machine would bog down to a halt at times...

    Reformatting a Dell laptop?

Dunno about the 1150, but I've formatted my 8200 at least 10 times and put both 2000, XP, XP SP1, and XP SP2 without a single hiccup. Good luck.

XP Crashes / reboots by itself

I actually found the problem. I had fast writes enabled in bios, and apparently, ATI X800's don't like tha too much. It's a thing for the other team (nVidia). So far, I haven't been able to make this thing crash. It runs like a champ!!! Thanks for the input anyway, I would have gotten to...

Wow, I just searched google for this problem again, and this came up as the #1 hit. This sad, empty thread. Oh well.

    4x512 or 2x1024?

OK, well, I'll try and contact them and see if I can get a straight answer. I hate the sales people for Dell in the states, because usually they will try and sell you everythign you don't want including their old car along with a computer. I hope they're better here in France, and that they...

    4x512 or 2x1024?

thanks for the help. I'm open to other options for ordering, however in France suppliers with good warranties are hard to find. But seriously, if you know of any, I'm all ears. Am I wrong in not wanting to support a computer for an office environment? I don't think so, as the times when...

does splitting a usb connection hurt performance

I've always wondered this too. In theory, no, I think what's more important is the total bus load of the entire usb bus. Running everything through one port shouldn't affect the performance of one connected device's bandwidth. Any experts?

UPDATED! in the market for a hi-end SCANNER

My dad bought the Canon 9950F for $400. It's pretty fast, however I don't have a huge amount of experiences with newer scanners (I worked alot with Agfa SCSIs about 5 years ago, and this thing blows them out of the water.) I was impressed by the quality of negative and transparent scans with...

    4x512 or 2x1024?

OK, before anyone even thinks of flaming here, just hold on for a few sentences. I build all my own systems, however at work we are looking at ordering a workstation, and quite frankly, I don?t want to be the one supporting it. Everyone bags on Dell, however I feel for a workplace environment...

XP Crashes / reboots by itself

Yeah I know, I was waiting a bit before I did that. I agree it's the definitive test, however as I said, I can't get ANY doagnostic test to produce any errors, so it's hard to confirm!

XP Crashes / reboots by itself

The DFI board only has 3 slots. I have 2 1024 sticks in slots 1 and 2. I was told not to run 3 sticks. I never said I was running an illegal copy of windows. I've tried several sound drivers and they don't seem to change much. As for what causes the error, I have no idea!!! That's...

    Cool N Quiet causing lockups

I had similar results with my DFI Lanparty NF3. It didn't lockup and reboot on it's own, however tryign to run any game or power-hungry application would have really unstable results. I read a bunch and learned that this technology is rarely fool-proof. It's a shame, because these A64 beasts...

XP Crashes / reboots by itself

I'd alraedy run hijackthis and there's nothing. There is no possible way that heat is the issue - I idle at 31C and load has never passed 45C (even after 10 hours of prime95). The XP-120 and a panaflo at 70% is truely an amazing combination. Just tonight, I played a divx, and upon closing...

Hmm... I have done malware testing, and I have nothing. In any case, this stuff was happening before and just after I re-installed everything. I sure hope it's not the power supply, as it's a brand new antec neopower. Any other ideas? Thanks for the TCP/IP fix, I read a bit about it and...

XP Crashes / reboots by itself

Hello, After building my system a few months ago, I was amazed to have it run stably right off the bat. No crashes, errors, or funny stuff. I switched from a stick of 512 generic samsung PC320 to 2GB of OCZ performance ram, and things seemed to change. Things "seemed" stable but now I'm...

    Ghosting on LCD monitors

I have some ghosting on my samsung 243T, however it's only rated at 25ms. It's funny though, ghosting is such a user-based qualification. I had been using a dell laptop for 3 years before taking the plung with a desktop and this LCD. For me, I only see ghosting on the samsung while watching...

    Setpoint application-specific settings...

After using a MS intellimouse explorer for 3 years, I switched to a MX1000. I had been using application-specific settings for ever, and now setpoint doesn't include them. I find this really frustrating and dissapointing, as I really can't live without them. The mouse is very comfortable and...

Display corruption problem - please help!!!

Very funny indeed! That's the first time I've ever heard someone describe Seattle as a hellhole. Well, The DVI specification tops out at 1920x1200, so it is pushing it, however I'm quite sure that has absolutely nothing to do with it. It's much more likeley that I've just puched the card...

    Catalyst 5.2

funny, I think I just solved it! I'm running a big panel at 1920x1200, and I just UNchecked the setting "reduce DVI frequency on high resolution displays" and I can't make it flicker anymore! YEE HAW!

    Catalyst 5.2

Has anyone ever experienced a weird screen flicker, or jump, or shudder (dunno how best to describe it) with their ATI X800 series card? It's like one frame doesn't get drawn correctly. It happens usually while dragging a window around or oepning a program. Sometimes ATI Tool will do it while...

Display corruption problem - please help!!!

I ran the torture blend test for over 9 hours and had no errors. I was also happy to see that my cooling kept the cpu under 42 deg C ! It's true that memtest doesn't do a very good job with 2GB as you have to open 2 at the same time, and even then it doesn't get all 2GB. Of course prime95...

External Hard Drive Enclosure with Internal SATA interface?

If I understand it, sata can be used externally... you just need to connect a front or back panel device to the sata headers on the drive, and get an enclosure that will power the sata drive. I've seen even some fan controlers that fit in the front bay and have 2 sata connectors. If you're...

Display corruption problem - please help!!!

Nah, I've got it on DVI. And as far as I can tell, if I clear the bios completely (by flashing a blank bios to it) and re-flash the original, how would they tell? It's putting back on the factory cooling without a trace that worries me more than the bios. We'll see if it comes to me...

Display corruption problem - please help!!!

like someone said here, that could be caused by a seriuos overheat of the vid card. It seems like it can literally fry it. As for me, I'm 100% positive that it's not oveaheating, and I've pretty much accepted that it's just because of the fact that I modified it. However since I wrote the...

Hard drive dilemnas, what would you do?

oh yeah, and I'm sure you know to set the windows scratch disk on another volume... the 300 gigger would do well. And then photoshop's scratch disk on it's own volume if possible too. Just seperate physical drives.

Hard drive dilemnas, what would you do?

that's exactly what I meant. You just explained it in a different way :) And yeah, I'd def use a smaller one for windows. But ditch the 6 gigger. you don't need to waste all that noise and energy on something so small.

Hard drive dilemnas, what would you do?

I'd create a small partition on the big one - install windows, create some additional partitions, copy your data from one of the 40's, then re-install windows onto that 40 and nuke the small temp partition you made on the big drive. It will take some forethought to arrange the partitions on the...

How do I create one MP3 file

yeah, I know, but I'm sure there's a way I can avoid the annoying step of putting them all together. I wouldn't mind for just one, but I have about 10 to do. It's also just stupid because of course they all started out as one big file, and I chopped them up. Anyway, I'm sure there's a way...

How do I create one MP3 file

A few years ago when I was still a DJ I made several mixes. I then broke them up into tracks and burned them, but I kept the original wav tracks. Now, as I only listen to my mp3 player, I want to make full mixes - that is to say an mp3 that is the full length of the mix. I remember seeing...
