    How much is AMD behind.

I remember saying that about my core 2 duo E8400 four years ago. And I compile code and run processor-heavy apps regularly. I still can't justify upgrading, but I probably will next yearish when Haswell pops out. I consider it a testament to [Intel] CPU development that I can skip 2 full...

    Placing screws over bus lines?

That's the weird thing. It screws into the same spots the stock Intel heatsink fan goes into, but the Intel hsf is plastic There's a "white" boundary line around the screw hole but from what I can tell the bus line runs right through it. My only thought is maybe this isn't really a bus line?

    Placing screws over bus lines?

I have a m-ATX Asus P5KPL-CM. I'm installing a CoolerMaster heatsink fan, which comes with a mounting backplate. Picture: Those lines (I think they're called bus lines?) go directly underneath all the stand-off screws. Is this okay, or should I not install this heatsink fan?

Random computer lockups after replacing thermal paste

1 week ago, I dusted my computer with a can of air and took out the processor/hsf to apply new thermal paste. This was after I saw my cpu temps were in the 90s with load. Ever since then, it locks up at semi-random intervals. It generally locks up before Windows even begins to boot (on the mobo...

How do you reroute a domain name to a different IP address?

Windows 7. I need www.whatever.com to reroute to 123.123.123.123 in all Internet applications. I know how to do this with the hosts file, but I need something easily reversible (something I can put in a batch file, for instance) without requiring a restart.

I now have problems with this router (Formerly: I'm thinking of getting the linksys WRT54GL router)

Well, I said "I prefer," and not "you will prefer." There is a significant difference for me because I use the router for webhosting. I also suspect that the extra space is useful for other features that I haven't discovered yet.

I now have problems with this router (Formerly: I'm thinking of getting the linksys WRT54GL router)

Yeah, it voids the warranty no question. If you're not careful you will "brick" your router. Look at the wiki link at dd-wrt.com (up top with the other main links). You'll find a list of supported and recommended devices there. The GL is supported, as well as the Buffalo. The Buffalo has...

Mac Filter enought to block people?

Don't bother with mac filtering. Use WPA (with a strong key), as there aren't any reliable ways to efficiently crack it yet. Use WEP if you must, but know that your network can be cracked efficiently. Anybody who can crack either encryption already knows the mac addresses of computers on your...

Suggest a topology for a small business network (5 users)

Well, they'd probably benefit from a fileserver. I'd just build/buy a samba file server with some sort of RAID backup: http://www.linuxjournal.com/article/6558 . That article covers some of the caveats. http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/Software-RAID-HOWTO-1.html#ss1.2 Here's another option...

    What's a good router?

Pretty much. Two of the bigger differences may be: prescene of an amplifier, and if dd-wrt supports the router. If there's an amplifier, expect better range (obviously). If dd-wrt supports it, you can flash probably the most configurable, and most upgradeable firmware...
