It may be upgrade time again

Hey Starbuck, I've got a similar computer (X2 3600+, 2GB DDR2, XFX 7900GT, WD Caviar SE16 250GB) and I get great FPS at 1280x1024 as long as shadow maps and post processing is turned off. Post processing is like the HDR stuff, which I think is overrated anyway, and no shadow maps eliminates some...

    Unofficial 8800GTS Overclock thread

My card did max out at 695/1100 and was perfectly stable for all my games (CS:S, R6Vegas, CoD2, and even 3DMarks06) but Bioshock changed that. Only 695/900 is stable for Bioshock for some reason. Anyway temps are good, and I've never seen them go above 65C (cooling is stock, but I removed the...

    Thermalright V1-Ultra

I have one on my 6600GT. Stock ran 90C, Zalman VF700 ran 65C, and the Thermalright V1-Ultra barely breaks 50C (load temps). It's a b!tch to install, but just be patient and line everything up and you'll get great temps.

EnzoTech Ultra-X - no Payola, No Review?

Why do you post such childish things? I think Spanki has some very good points and you reply by insulting his name? Grow up kid it's a CPU heatsink! That being said, I too would like to see an Anandtech review of the Ultra-X and the TR SI-128 since both have very similar designs (8mm...

    Thermalright Extreme

Yea it's a huge consipracy  What have you got against Thermalright? The make great products. And while universal mounts may work universally, I find they aren't as effective as more specialized ones.

    Thermalright Extreme

I think s939 is dead mostly because there are no more s939 chips being made right? And like i said earlier, TR used to not include S775 mounting which required a kit, but really it's no big deal. You've got an older system now as far as sockets go (I too have a s939 X2), why would TR waste the...

    Thermalright Extreme

s939 is dead, and if you don't remember, back when XP90, XP120, SI120 were king, if you had a s775 Intel board you had to buy a "kit" too. I don't think it's a big deal. The kit is cheap anyway.

Looking at that 3D Marks page you linked, it looks like you're running your RAM in single channel mode (instead of dual channel) which will hurt your score.

so my 6600gt idles at 24C

The real question is was your post necessary? Does it contribute to this thread at all? To the OP, those temps sound right to me. My 6600GT with a Zalman VF700 would idle ~35-40C and load ~60C in summer conditions, so with a better cooler (VF900) and winter/basement ambient temperatures, I'd...

    Just a little upset

That really sucks, I feel for you windstrike. When you buy stuff like this and treat it right, you expect it to last longer than 1 year. Some companies offer lifetime warranties like EVGA, XFX, and BFG. You might want to check one of them out. That's being pretty harsh. This sucks for the...

    AMD 4x4 @ 3GHz VS. Intel QX6700 @ 2.66GHz

I didn't expect the AMD 4x4 to win this battle (and they didn't) but the performance was closer than I thought. Besides the horrendous power usage of the 4x4 system, it doesn't look too bad. But that doesn't take into account that the QX6700 is, by default, clocked lower, probably...

    Hard drive Upside Down?

I've got a weird story. My Seagate 320GB 7200.10 has a very loud motor and it is unbearably annoying. Seagate tech support was giving me the run around so I was just messing with the drive and decided to flip it over so the label was faced down. The noise stopped completely!

    Splinter Cell: Double Agent

I'm pretty sure they got rid of it. That's the main reason I never played CT a second time through.

    Splinter Cell: Double Agent

It is the imported version. Whenever GoGamer puts a new release game on 48 Hour Madness it's usually an import, which is designated by the (I). But, I've bought 2 games from them that were imports and they work just fine. They play multiplayer just the same and they patch/update like the US...

    Splinter Cell: Double Agent

I'm surprised about this. How could they "dumb" it down any further than the first, since it was developed for the original Xbox? Either way, I really liked the first two and this latest installment claims to have much more incentive for multiple replays so I'm excited to get my copy.

    Splinter Cell: Double Agent

Yea, but they were all kind of short weren't they? Plus, I really like the genre, I'm sick of scary aliens and Nazis.

    Splinter Cell: Double Agent

This is the latest addition to the series. I'm a big fan of the Splinter Cell games and this is the lowest price I've seen. It's part of GoGamer's "48 Hour Madness" so it won't last too long. Splinter Cell: Double Agent

    Painkiller Gold $7

I agree, it was a fun game, though it was a bit buggy for me (random crashes and erased save games) and multiplayer wasn't very fun. But for $7 it's definitely worth it.
