Maybe something like this: http://www.linksys.com/products/product.asp?grid=35&scid=39&prid=569 Quick search on price watch puts the cost arround $420-$500. Its an unmanagable switch.

$5,000 to spend for 1TB of storage (NAS? Windows server?)

I have a few Dell PV 745N's. They've been working great for me. But the internal storeage is somwhat limited. 4x250gb SATA disks. Only about 750gb of usable disk space if your running raid 5. But you can add an external SCSI disk array later. SCSI controler card would be required.

    mobo problem??

Sounds like something is shorted. Strip it down to bare minimum. Only Mobo, cpu, cpu fan, video and ram. Unplug any extra usb headers you may have pluged in as well as all your front pannel connectors except the power switch. unplug the power cable from the power supply for a few seconds. then...

I lost a server and I'd like to have it back!

Network places gets its list from the master browser on the network. On boot a machine will broadcast and register it self with the master browser. Is this server on a different subnet?

Looks like your overclocking. Have you tried setting everything back to defaults? Have you also checked to make sure all your fans are running?

    server backup help

I wouldn?t call myself an SQL expert but I've seen how its often setup in an enterprise environment. Windows clustering will only run on 2k advanced, and 2k3 ent. This is the way ive always seen a cluster setup. In a true cluster both machines need to be online at the same time. Usually...

    I can ping, but I can't get anywhere ...

There isnt any way to truly uninstall and reinstall TCP/IP in XP. There is however a way to reset it to defaults. Checkout this MS KB article on how to do it. http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=299357 You may also want to checkout this article if the reset dosn't help. This talks about...

Very high hard drive access makes it impossible to play a game

I was more talking about how the page file needs no fault tolerance. Having the page file on a mirrored disk wouldnt hurt performance. Just that if you lost a disk it wouldnt matter if you lost the page file.

    Weird file-sharing problem (XP sp2)

Your share permissions may be fine but what about the NTFS permissions? NTFS permissions are set via the Security tab when you look at a folder's properties.

Very high hard drive access makes it impossible to play a game

Its generally recommended that you set your page file like this: 1.5 x ram + 12mb. Having No pagefile will cause slow system performance. Here are some basic rules you should follow: Move the pagefile off the disk that holds your system and boot partitions to another fast and dedicated...

Can't boot into Windows due to Norton Ghost Clone

I've been building my companies standard ghost images since the NT4 days. For quite a while now we have been on Windows XP. I think some earlier versions of ghost had trouble with XP. Maybe pre Ghost 6.5 or 6.0. Right now we're using Ghost 7.5. I know 7.0 also worked fine for XP. If you...

Does this indicate a dead hard drive?

Sounds more like a boot file is corrupted or missing. Could also be some corruption in the master boot record. After verifying the cables are good I would try to do a windows repair by booting off the windows cd.

Poor Network Performance on W 2003 Server w/ dual 2.6 Ghz

It kind of sounds like you are running half duplex. I have seen in the past that by trying to run gbit though cat 5 it will connect at 1gbs but drop the connection to half duplex. Are you using cat5e or cat6 cables for all the gbit systems? If it is cat5e or cat 6 you may want to try hard...

    random reboot

You may also want to take a quick look in your event viewer after a crash. You can sometimes see several errors leading upto the crash. It could also be an out of date driver. Check and see if a new chipset driver is available.

    Broadband kickstart

Maybe releasing your IP and renewing it might restart it. Sounds like your dsl connection may be timing out. On your reboot your obtaining a new address even if it gives you the same one. If that works make your self a batch file and put it on your desktop. Run it if your internet dosnt work...

Problems with A8N-SLI and two Gigabyte 6600GTs

I tried setting this up with the same Giga-Byte cards with no luck. I was getting the exact same problem when installing the drivers. I even went as fas as flashing the bios on the cards them self. Still wouldnt work. I think the issues was that they were not SLI certified. So nivida's driver...

IS there any happy A8N-SLI owner?

I am a very happy owner of this board. The only issues I had during install really has nothing to do with the board it self. I originally bought two Giga-Byte 6600GT cards to run SLI. Issue was that they weren?t SLI certified so the Forceware driver wouldn?t let you enable SLI. I ended up...
