    PC suddenly won't POST

Okay, so I removed the motherboard from the chassis and disconnected everything, including RAM. I then set the motherboard on top of the chassis, connected main ATX power, power switch, and PC speaker pins. Pressed power button, CPU heatsink fan spins up but no beeps. To cut power (the CPU...

    PC suddenly won't POST

Thanks for the help so far. It's very strange that I don't get any beep error codes. The case (Chieftec Dragon) did come with a PC speaker which is connected to the motherboard and until now it would always make a single beep as it successfully POSTed. Now I get no beeps. It seems like it...

    PC suddenly won't POST

All of a sudden my PC locked up in the middle of web browsing. I hard-powered it off, and when turning it back on it would no longer POST. I do not get any kind of feedback whatsoever. No video signal, no keyboard lights, no PC speaker beeps. However, everything seems to have power. I can...

    STOP 0x000000A5

Okay, I feel like an idiot, but I found the problem. An SD card inserted in my SanDisk USB card reader was causing the error. Removing it caused the system to boot fine. Just posting this in case it ever helps anyone else down the line.

    STOP 0x000000A5

This morning upon booting up my main computer, I was greeted by Windows with a blue screen and the aforementioned STOP message, which has to do with BIOS not being ACPI compliant. The computer booted fine yesterday and I did not change the BIOS (nor did I make any hardware or software changes)...

Got my leg warmer back :P

Well what I have in mine (HKLM\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Print\Monitors\S tandard TCP/IP Port) is a String called Driver with the value tcpmon.dll Beneath that, in the Ports subtree I have two DWORDS: StatusUpdateEnabled and StatusUpdateInterval. The first is a hex 1, and the second is a...

CPU Usage Spiking by no identifiable process

Just today after installing Office and GoBack on my laptop (recently reformatted with Win2000 Pro), the CPU usage began rising, causing higher temperatures and perpetual fan activity. But in Task Manager there is no process generating this usage! Click here for picture In this picture you...

    Good case

Under $50: Athenatech A747 - essentially toolless case. Integrated drive rails (you don't even have to screw railsto your drives. Just slide them into the pre-rail-equipped bays and lock them with the lever). Very cool. Awesome for the price. Includes a pretty good 300W supply (unlike the...

Delayed write failed: Bad hard drive or bad controller card?

The problem with my F: drive started when I was trying to render a Quicktime file in Premiere. I had rendered tons of movies before this point, but now it just failed in the middle, and I got a "Delayed write failed" error, as seen here: http://www.chadypu.com/escee/delayed_write_failed.JPG...

Does this indicate a dead hard drive?

Cables seemed okay. I made sure they were seated properly. Drive seems to be getting power, since it POSTs and is seen by BIOS. It's on the same IDE cable as my second HDD, which can be accessed fine (I can read data from it). So I tried to do a Repair, but Windows can't seem to access the...

Can I use the foam motherboard packaging to isolate the mobo from the case?

Excellent, much thanks! I found the standoffs and the computer boots up fine now. Thanks again!

Can I use the foam motherboard packaging to isolate the mobo from the case?

I have a microATX mobo (Asus A7V8X-MX SE) and a standard ATX case (Athenatech 747). The case doesn't have all the screwholes for microATX so when it is mounted the bottom-right corner comes in contact with the case. This causes the system to not boot as it "grounds out." My question: The mobo...

    Hard disk humm.....

Try decoupling them from the case and setting them on foam on the bottom of the case. This should quiet them a great deal. You can also quiet them with elastic suspension. Check out silentpcreview.com

Best $30 case w/ PSU & a fan at Newegg (not including shipping)?

Just wondering. I'm building a computer for my parents and have a small budget ($450 including shipping and tax) I will probably go with this: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=11-190-025&depa=1 because I've heard Athenatech is a very good company. But if you know...

LCD "static" (white speckles in game)

I just wanted to say kudos for understanding what Dell's mindless support placard-reading drones couldn't understand. I have a Dell Inspiron laptop (which is why I had to go through support instead of just replacing the video card myself). I was getting lots of artifacts, which would crash my...

Buying a new computer (My Updated Purchase List)

The only drive to ever die on me was a Maxtor. But it was an external drive, so I guess maybe the reliability of their internal drives is a different story. So I might switch thw WD & Maxtor drive roles.

    Computer shuts off...

Something like this happened with my old laptop. It would just shut off sponaneously for no reason (the batteries also wouldn't hold a charge; thus, it just completely shut off) -- my laptop also seemed to go into some "low-power" state, as I couldn't just hit power to turn it back on (an LED...

Buying a new computer (My Updated Purchase List)

I posted this thread before asking for suggestions and answers to some questions on my choice of parts. Hard Drive Reaches Capacity Unexpectedly

It probably won't help you, but recently I had a similar problem. It was a corrupted System Restore point. I guess because some of the Restore points were corrupted, XP failed to delete ANY of them, and thus it EASILY overflowed its 1GB (or whatever) bounds, and just kept making more Restore...

    WD Raptor/36GBx2 RAID 1: yea/nay??

I had a bad experience with an external drive (a Maxtor Personal Storage 3000DV 120GB), which really didn't last long before dying completely. So I will probably just backup to an internal drive (much cheaper anyway) but still if daily (or less frequent) backups are done I can recover from a...

    WD Raptor/36GBx2 RAID 1: yea/nay??

What do you mean by this? I understand that you are saying RAID-1 is more "redundancy" than "backup," but what do you mean by it not being as "safe?" How is backup to another drive "safer" than RAID-1? I ask because I planned to add RAID-1 in the future, basically as a "backup" -- it seems...

IBM HD's, which ones had the problem?

I can identify with the paranoia. I have never had a(n internal) hard drive fail -- I had an external Maxtor PS 5000DV 120GB die (and lost my Adobe Premiere work), but never an internal drive. But I would kill myself if my main HDD crashed. I have a laptop right now and recently backed...

    UPS recommendation?

It looks like that APC one only lasts 3-11 minutes? I don't know how much you paid for it, but if it's "higher in the price range," it seems like a rip off... is it just the APC name that makes it cost so much? I'd think something like this would be better -- 20 to 65 minutes. Or the even...

Wow, just got my first LCD!! ITs freaking beautiful...

I was going to get an NEC LCD71V, but your Hitachi is $10 cheaper, has the same refresh time (16ms), and includes a DVI connector which the NEC doesn't. Which is the better monitor, though? Buying a new PC -- Motherboard recommendations (and several other technical questions)

Actually, I added all the components to my cart at newegg.com and it was only about $70 cheaper to buy all the parts and build it myself than just have iBuyPower build it. The time I save, not having to go through the hassles and frustrations of hitting a roadblock, and the stress-testing...

Buying a new PC -- Motherboard recommendations (and several other technical questions)

Well, I am not a big PC gamer mainly because I am not a big fan of the online-FPS genre. For that reason I am more of a console gamer.
