    GFX card overheating?

It could be broken, but, it's not really important - the fan is crap anyone. Buy a low noise 80mm case fan or two and cludge them onto the GFX card. It works for me.

Optical In problems with SBlive! Drive

Thanks. I might do that, but I'm also thinking of buying an Audigy card. Do you have any idea if it'll work with the SBlive!'s drive bay? What's CMSS? My SBlive! is capable of 5.1 surround, but I have tonnes of problems with it's official drivers. The APS live! drivers work better for me...

Optical In problems with SBlive! Drive

I can get it to work with the APS Live! drivers, but they don't seem to produce surround sound - whatever goes out of channels 1 and 2 comes out the same with channels 7 and 8

Optical In problems with SBlive! Drive

I'm trying to wire up my DVD player to my PC so I can make use of 4 channel sound. I'm using the Creative drivers for the Sound Blaster Live! card with the drive bay board I can't find any controls for Optical In - everything else is there but not that. I tried using the SPDIF ports on the DVD...

I'm interested in dreams. I've read about people who were intently working on problems and having them answered in dreams, but I've never heard of a unique idea popping up like this.

Can anyone identify this GFX card please

Aha, just got a response from the seller. "Hi, could you tell me what model of gfx card that one on the bottom row with the fan is please?" AGP nVidia GeForce MX440 SE 64M W/TV (Fan) AGP S3 Trio 3D/2X AGP STB Nitro DVD 2 x PCI ATI Rage II +DVD (Graphics) 2 x PCI S3 Trio 64 (Graphics) 3 x...

In one of the pictures - that astronaut's suit looks like it's from some Sci-Fi B-movie. I'd like to know if this guy genuinely is a nut, or, that he's a Sci-Fi fanatic talking about his collector's items while a bored journalist assigned to him was busy inventing his own story.

Can anyone identify this GFX card please

I suppose, genghis, I might buy the lot if I can get them for a very low price. The auction is up for another 5 or 6 days, so I'll have to wait. The AGP cards are going to be more or less useless to me, I don't think I can sell them on, but I like to collect old junk like this anyway. I'm...

Can anyone identify this GFX card please

That's the one I mean, yeah. It looks like an AGP one to me, so it'll be useless for this system I'm tinkering with.

Can anyone identify this GFX card please

No, it's an auction I've found with someone getting rid of their old ISA and PCI network and gfx cards. I'm hoping someone here has owned that GFX card and tell me what it's like. I've asked the seller and am waiting for a reply

Can anyone identify this GFX card please

Trash Heap On the bottom row there's a GFX card with a fan and L shaped RAM. Can anyone identify it please? Does anyone recognise the rest of the cards? Think of it as a quiz if you want.

    system fail cpu test

Did you try using the AS5 without the HFS on your CPU? If it that's the case the AS5 could have melted and glooped out all over the place. I thought that stuff was supposed to be a near enough perfect electrical insulator.

Future of computers, diamonds or optics?

Sounds a lot like the Philadelphia Project. I just scanned through it, if he points it at something he'll see right through it yeah? So if it's "shining" through a wall, why can he see his wife's car lisence plate and not through that too? And how does light bounce back so he can see anything...

    make your own PC? **Nastalgia**

My dad did one of those projects, well, he started one, that I know. I can't remember him finishing it though. I wonder if they'll ever make a new version of those projects/magazine, with 486/586 generation technology.

    system fail cpu test

You might have to leave the jumper set like that for a 3 or 4 hours and have the PC unplugged. I can't see it making any difference though, frankly. Can get into the BIOS at all? I suppose you've tried it but disabling any onboard sound, lan or gfx chips might give it a wake up slap. If there's...

If I buy a stick of PC133 and put it in a system with PC125, the PC133 Stick will run at 125, without having to go into the BIOS, yeah?

which is better - onboard sound or add-on sound ?

i haven't found anything definite on Azalia, just comments by people saying that it makes sound flat and lifeless. If the chip has some DSP settings like reverb and chorus and an equalizer you should get better sound. Some people are claiming Azalia is too heavy on CPU resources, while others...

which is better - onboard sound or add-on sound ?

Yeah. With the Audigy and SBlive! you can run KX drivers and APS drivers that will give you better control of ESP effects. I don't know how the KX drivers fair in games, but with the APS ones I'm using they don't support EAX very well, but you can send sounds independently through the 8 analogue...

which is better - onboard sound or add-on sound ?

If the onboard sound uses the PCI bus it will spare a lot of system resources. See if it says anything in the manual about it. The Audigy has onboard memory and you'll have better access to DSP effects with it (including EAX for gaming) than with most onboard SPUs. What are the specs for your...

Ancient socket 7 pentium based tower

Presuming my mobo can do a 2.2v core setting, will running a K6-500 chip at 2.5*66 enable it to run at 500? Or does the CXT core only work with a 2x multiplier?

Ancient socket 7 pentium based tower

I found this while searching for the BIOS ID. I think it's the right board, but this one says it has a PS/2 mouse connector and 2 USBs. It'll be one that slips into a bay with a cable running to the mobo won't it? If so I don't know why it would be missing as there doesn't seem to be a reason...

Ancient socket 7 pentium based tower

Aye, I wish I knew where the local tip was. What's the ULTIMATE videocard for the ULTIMATE PC?

JC just told me that if my mobo can do 2.2vcore I should be able to run a K2-400 on it. I haven't found a manual for it yet but if it can it'll be nearly as fast as my old PC. The good thing about this PC I found is, that, when I remove the fan from the heatsink it's totally silent, probably the...

Ancient socket 7 pentium based tower

I got my first PC in 2000. It had an onboard AGP chip - Trident Blade 64 or something, it was utter crap. I'm going to have to find the manual for my board to find out what voltages it can use. I'd love to get another crappy K6-2 on this thing I may have to buy another ps/2 keyboard and...

I've seen a few voodoos going for a tenner, probably because they're common. Same for various Matrox Millennium cards, but, they're a bit cack really I'm just building it up for fun, mostly. With a Voodoo 3 3K I should be able to get Unreal Tournament and other glide games to work on it, but...
