This happens when double clicking on a folder in Explorer. Sometimes also when opening a new explorer window (ie: double click on some folder from desktop). Hitting F5 to refresh fixes it, but then it just comes back again. :(
I've...
While my A64 3200 and X800XL served me well for the last two years, I started to make a list of games I want to play without resorting to minimal graphics. That list is now something like 13 or 14 games long.
I just want to get as much gaming performance as possible without reaching too high...
Anybody have experience importing cars from the US to Canada?
I'm thinking about getting a Subaru Legacy 2.5i Limited (2007) from Buffalo and dragging it over to Hamilton. We'll see if its cheaper, but part of me suspects it is.
As the car is manufactured in Indiana if I recall correctly...
I'm strongly considering getting a new Impreza. However, I'm torn between Sedan or Wagon.
On one hand, I'm 21, and a wagon is weenie.
On the other hand, the Impreza trunk is puny, and you can't get folding rear seats in the Sedan.
:(
The wimpy fan on my NB is dead, so its just a wimpy heatsink and case airflow cooling it right now. The included motherboard utility reads 66 degrees. Now, a few games seem to run slower than they should....am I getting thermally throttled or is it something else?
nForce 4, btw.
I'm fully aware of how ABS works, I'm merely wondering if ABS makes pure-straight line stopping distance worse in some cases. And it would seem like yes.
I'm also quite a good driver. I don't think that keeping the same following distance as everyone else and going the same speed, but being...
So a while ago we were getting fresh, fluffy snow, and I?m driving about 30 km/h keeping pace with everyone else. Red light comes up, everyone hits the brakes. They all stop just fine, whereas my ABS decides that it?s a good idea to continually let up on the brakes, forcing me to yank on the...
Ah, I only had a vague idea of what Craigslist is. I thought he was referring to the act in general instead of the specifics.
As for Apple, while I'm sure they purport to be quite hippie and liberal, any large multinational corporation should probably slant towards the right wing.
I mean...
I've heard so much about this, but its all be anecdotal. Anybody have some semi-solid facts?
And yes, this will be a new-with-stickers car. Maybe a 2006 clearance/demo model though.
I feel the need to trade in my trusty 2001 Grand Am for something fresher.
Currently debating vs:
VW Jetta 2.5 (ie: not the turbo version)
Mazda 6 (2.3L)
Subaru Impreza SE (WRX too rich for my blood)
I'm quite confident that all of these cars have enough oomph for my purposes, and I...
I know its weird, but my brain shuts off if I try to code in Courier New, or really most fixed width fonts.
I use Verdana because the capital I and lowercase L are easily distinguishable.
Anybody else out there have "strange" font choices?
If I recall correctly the 2400/2500 mobiles should OC to at least 2.2Ghz / 400FSB, which is the stock level of a 3200+ Barton. There might be some cache size differences but I think at this level, the differences are pretty minute when your main concern is penny pinching.
Shame about the...
Hi
I've got a pair of Seagate 7200.7 PATA 120GBs (fluid bearing IIRC) that have been chugging along for 3.5 years now, without any issues. Lately, though, I've been getting a little paranoid. Is there any way to tell what kind of shape the drives are in? What kind of lifespan can I generally...
I've got a ton of DVDs, and very little time / patience to go about the ripping process. I'd like to set up a media-center PC with the usual features but also with some way to just shove in a DVD, press a button, and go to sleep so that the next morning my DVD is nicely ripped into XIVD and...
Yeah I've been running it with the case open, and its getting colder now weather wise so its not a huge deal, but I was kind of hoping for a replacement HSF for each...does something like that exist?
I noticed some random crashing while playing games the other day that I couldn't immediately attribute to some hardware problem. However, when I took the case panel off I did notice that the problems subsided greatly.
Unfortunately, I've now determined that my northbridge fan requires a good...
Whoops, I meant to say RCA out. and RCA input on the Dell 20".
Its a Motorola something or other. The "Standard Receiver" listed here: http://www.cogeco.ca/en/digital_boxes_o.html
I'm leaning towards the LCD since I can use it on my PC if I want and have a dual monitor setup. Flexibility...
The set top box is pretty basic; it only has component out and RF out.
I know Dell has a nice 20" LCD with Component and SVideo input, but its slightly higher than the price I want to spent. On the other hand if I could score a Dell coupon..
I recently ordered digital cable for when I move to my new apartment. Now the problem is, I don't acutally have a TV. Having taken a look at prices for low-end (CRT) TVs I was a bit disappointed, so I happened upon the idea of getting a cheap 19/20" LCD, some mediocre 2.1 speaker system, and...
EDIT: Nevermind, its fixed. i'm an idiot
I currently have a Linksys Wireless-G router set up in infrastructure mode. I'm unable to ping a wired-computer from a wireless one and vice versa, and I can't map network drives or share files or anything like that. Both machines can access the...
My system for the most part runs fine when its on. Its turning it on thats the problem. Rather than swap mobo's / power supplies in and out and replace something, I've decided that its long in the tooth anyways (Barton 2500 @ 2.2, 9800 Pro, nForce 2, etc) and could use several new parts. So I'm...
Its a 380W antec, same one I"ve used since the computer was put together and only recently has it been faltering.
Oh well I'll check stuff on another motherboard. Just want to make *certain* that it isn't the HDs.
Whenever I try to start my computer off a cold boot, the following happens.
1. Random whirring, occasionally followed by a restart after the first "beep" (you know...computers are supposed to beep once when starting).
2. Hard drives (I believe its the HDs) make some repeating squeaking...
you gotta be worried when the benchmark reports a higher score .....
but hey on the bright side, maybe you really do have a 4.4Ghz P4 5xx?
in a dell no less. i'd be worried about the cooling at this stage :(
I just got your average-to-bad 802.11b/g card and I'm about 10-12 meters, one floor, and several layers of walls away from the AP.
I'm getting massive lag spikes whenever I try to play games on the internet. Is this caused by the card changing speeds/channels? If so is there any way I can...
What are some of the pros and cons of buying used cars from rental companies? They seem to be reasonably well kept, have some extra features up from the base-models/higher trim level, and are kept clean and so on, all at lower than average prices.
Likely more mileage but its probably 90%...
It pains me greatly that Newegg still doesn't ship to Canada. Does anybody know of a store in Canada (or one that ships to canada without getting me gouged 25% on duties) that is essentially the closest thing possible to newegg?
I know of a few good places in Canada (NCIX et al), but their...
One more thing I forgot to add....making computers for parents who just want basic MSOffice/Web/Email/Watch DVDs functionality is usually more about software setup than hardware...IE: install Windows + Drivers + Software for them, make sure everything is in perfect working order, make 2...
This is just a list of whats gone through my house....mostly family computers etc.
386 Something (so long ago...can't remember)
486 DX4/90Mhz
PII 266Mhz
Pentium 200Mhz Laptop (I think...can't remember too well)
Tbird 800
Celeron 550 Laptop
P4 1.6 Laptop
2x 2500+ Bartons @ 2.2Ghz...
I will assume that your mom basically just does daily email/browsing/MSWord kind of stuff, ie: not things that require anything near cutting edge speed. What you have is essentially sufficient.
Get a cheap KT600 or nForce 2 board (not that there are any expensive ones left), whatever...
As far as I know, its caused by poor electrical shielding in the circuitry itself. Not a lot you can do to correct the problem...just funky workarounds.
