Is my unorthodox "mounting" job safe?

After finding out that I could add a Serial ATA hard drive to a PC that already had two IDE drives, I ordered (from Newegg) a new Samsung Serial ATA drive even though I didn't have any 3.25" bays in my case that weren't already being used. I figured I would use a bracket or something to mount...

my pc already has two IDE hard drives. can I add a Serial ATA drive?

Yay! That's great! I was hoping that someone on the forums was already successfully using the configuration that we're talking about. So as long as my BIOS allows it (which I will be able to determine on my own), I should be good to go. Thanks!

my pc already has two IDE hard drives. can I add a Serial ATA drive?

Thanks for posting, BlueWeasel. I need a new handle/nickname; anthonysw1 is so boring. Hmm, I didn't realize it could be a BIOS issue. Unfortunately, I can't look at my BIOS right now because I'm at the office and my computer is at home. When I get home I'll take a look at the menus in...

my pc already has two IDE hard drives. can I add a Serial ATA drive?

I have tried searching these forums and using Google, but I couldn't find any information on whether you can take a computer whose motherboard has connectors for both IDE and Serial ATA (as mine does) and hook up IDE drives and Serial ATA drives at the same time. The reason I want to do this...

oh, ok. That explains it. Thanks.

    POLL: CCC vs CP

I like the newest ATI Omega Drivers. He included a box where you can control the Catalyst AI feature just using the regular control panel!

    why 1280 x 1024 and not 1280 x 960?

My question is, why do a lot of games, and a lot of hardware reviews, use 1280 by 1024 as one of the resolution choices? All of the other common resolutions have a 4 to 3 ratio, but 1280x1024 is 5 to 4. Doesn't everything look all scrunched if you play the game on that setting? Sometimes...

XP's services.exe won't stop writing to the disk

no, that's not it, because when you attempt to stop the "services.exe" process, Windows says it's critical system process and Task Manager cannot end it. Besides, the computer in question isn't connected to the internet, so my risk of getting malware is a lot lower than normal.

XP's services.exe won't stop writing to the disk

The Summary pretty much says it all. I'm running Windows XP with Service Pack 1 (not 2) and when I pressed CTRL-ALT-DELETE and got the Task Manager to display I/O Writes (as suggested by another thread in this forum), the only service that continued to write to the disk after startup completed...

DVI to VGA adapter not working; is it the video card?

I forgot to mention that the Geforce 4 doesn't work with anyone else's standard monitor either. ANd the tech guy was definitely using a flat-screen WITH A DVI CONNECTOR. I specifically asked him about those points. Also, my monitor works- it works with the Radeon, so why would the pins be...

My video card survived- or did it?

(FYI to moderator: I already posted this in technical support, but since I'm not getting a reply and this is a video card issue, I thought I'd try posting it here with a more interesting title) On the way back to college, I had a pretty gruesome car accident. I was belted in and so was unhurt...

DVI to VGA adapter not working; is it the video card?

On the way back to college, I had a pretty gruesome car accident. I was belted in and so was unhurt expect for my arm getting cut by glass when I was crawling out of what used to be my car. Unfortunately, my desktop PC was also in the car, and some if its components were destroyed as well...

I'm building a new PC. Should I start with a Bare Bones system or from scratch?

Thanks everybody for your imput The whole reseller rating thing was an eye opener for me. I read some of those ratings on www.resellerrating.com and I was stunned. Of course, you gotta wonder whether a significant number of satisfied customers take the time to post a comment on their chosen...

I'm building a new PC. Should I start with a Bare Bones system or from scratch?

spanner and Lord Evermore bring up interesting points- thanks for replying! I've decided to go with Lord Evermore's suggestion and buy the RAM from Crucial since they have a decent price and are a well regarded manufacturer. As for the amount of RAM to buy, I think it would be best for me to...

I'm building a new PC. Should I start with a Bare Bones system or from scratch?

I'm planning on taking the monitor, keyboard, mouse, DVD drive, sound card and CD-RW drive out of my current computer and adding them to the new components. The new things I need are the processor, mobo, fan, power supply, case, memory, video card and hard drive. For the first five things on...
