Could anyone tell me what steps to take to successfully configure two HDs as a RAID 0 startup drive? My room-mate is futzing with the bios right now but we really don't know what we are doing since I'm a MACfanboy and my roommate is a total noob!
Quartz Extreme is nice but completely unnecessary. It doesn't give you all that much of a boost, and probably no boost for most tasks. But a Mac that old and an All-in-one unit at that will have many limitations to performance and expansion. I'm almost positive that OS X does not support that...
Yea roommate's off at work. But he won't trust me to protect his PC. I told him the things you guys are saying because I've heard these things before on Anandtech. He's a noob that thinks he knows everything.
Funny thing is when he gets home he will only install SP1 (from the internet), just...
Viruses, worms, spy-ware, all that scary stuff, no?
It's not connected to the cable modem yet? Will it be risky to connect it and play CS as long as I don't surf the web or do email?
My roommate's comp has a fresh XP install and I want to play Counter Strike. No hardware fire wall, and I don't think it's even got SP1, no AV. He won't let mess with it other than to play Games and surf. He won't be home to fix it for hours and I'm bored silly. How risky is it?
The SATA is visible in bios. But I don't really know what I'm talking about. We don't even have a floppy on the machine, maybe could borrow one. The Raptor came with no CD and no Floppy, sealed new in packaging.
Installing XP on a PC with SATA HD.
Friend brought home a fast 40Gb SATA drive, plugged it into the onboard connector of his mobo (ECS Eliregroup 755-A2). Windows setup starts to run through its paces and then stops at a screen telling us that no hard drives are available, check the...
I can't find anything on there but a request for donations when i go to the XP boot-floppy part of the site. Am I looking in the wrong area? <http://www.bootdisk.com/popfiles.htm>
When installing XP on a PC that won't boot from CD what's the simplest and/or best way to make a boot floppy? I know how to use a Windows and a little about the hardware but don't know to much on the technical level.
Is there a good place on the web for this kind of thing? Someone told me to...
OK now he says he held down a couple of keys during boot up and got so a place that allowed him to initialize the HD. The HD is formating as I type this. Maybe we can get somewhere after this step. Must sleep now...thanks for help everyone...GN
Ok it's not booting off the XP CD. We set the CD-ROM as 1st in the boot priority in BIOS. Guess this means we need a start-up floppy. How does one go about making a boot floppy? Can you at least point me in the right direction?
Help me *legally* crack this IBM Netfinity 3500 server.
I my friend got an old Netfinity 3500 server tower. His brother worked at a K-Mart that closed and sold all of the store IT stuff to it's employees. To his surprise It's password protected and we don't have the password. It boots into a...
Thanks for the additional info all.
I will make sure to use 120mm fans and make a mobo tray so I can accommodate BTX some day. I will take you word for it Terumo about the not needing a frame deal and try to design it that way. This case may take a while to make but it will be truly unique...
I'm thinking the frame will be good to hold drives and such, no?. Also to hold the mobo tray without me having to rebuild the wheel. I don't know much though. Am I missing something? How would building it without the pre-made frame inside be better? Other than the cost of the frame or time to...
GF says I may send you all a pic of the case when it's done silly people!
But maybe I can get her to demonstrate it like a respectable Price-is-Right showcase girl
- hehe.
Thanks Akira34
When you talk of using the motherboard tray are you saying to take that out of the metal case? Would this be better than just keeping it in it's case and building around that? I will need the rest of the case to hold up the optical drives and such, right? Am I missing...

I'll post a picture of it here when I'm done.
