    Installing Vista on drive C:

Thanks for the replies! How significant is the order of partitions? I understand that the first (outer) partitions are the fastest, but is the difference really perceptible?

    Installing Vista on drive C:

Is there an option to install Vista on a separate folder along WinXP rather than upgrade the old OS? I'd like to have both on the same partition, but avoid any collisions. Any issues to consider?

Are 19/20 inch LCD screens at 1600x1200 usable?

Thanks for all the comments. As good as the 2007FP is, I couldn't live with the 1600x1200 resolution no matter what I tried. I returned it and bought a second-hand LG F900P CRT instead, and I'm much happier with it.

Are 19/20 inch LCD screens at 1600x1200 usable?

Are long filenames (of desktop icons) truncated in the same character regardless of DPI? Could this be unique to Vista? In XP, names are truncated earlier when using higher DPI (e.g. 120%). Besides text size, don't you find 800x600 images look tiny compared to what they look like in lower...

Are 19/20 inch LCD screens at 1600x1200 usable?

I don't see how two windows would make fonts or pictures bigger. Please elaborate.

Are 19/20 inch LCD screens at 1600x1200 usable?

I just bought a Dell 2007FP 20 inch screen. It seems to be a good screen in terms of display quality, but I find its 1600x1200 optimum resolution to be a problem - text is simply too small to read comfortably. The high resolution also dwarfs 800x600 images posted in most websites. In fact, most...

Copper heatsink/pipes construction on current motherboards - what is it all about?

Thanks, it makes sense. It's a bit surprising though to see this cooling scheme used in so many boards. I guess it's now a must-have feature. Oren

Copper heatsink/pipes construction on current motherboards - what is it all about?

I've been out of the hardware scene for a while and just noticed that current boards have a new cooling construction on them: --> image of a motherboard with said construction marked with blue arrows When did those start appearing and what are they supposed to cool? Is there any reason why...

Is there any service that offers remote Windows terminals?

There are many uses, here are two that are quite typical: 1. Testing connection speed to a site I frequent (such as my mail provider - fastmail.fm). This allows me to isolate speed issues. If it's slow from both ends of the ocean, then the slowness is probably due to my mail provider and not...

Is there any service that offers remote Windows terminals?

I'm occasionally using a UNIX text terminal (freeshell.org) when I want to test browsing/mail from abroad. The only problem is that it's a text terminal, which means the browser choice is very limited. What I'd like find is a similar service that offers Windows terminals with a graphic user...

What's the best driver for an old Geforce 2 GTS?

v66.93 is ok, though v52.16 feels a bit more "fluid". One thing for sure, v71.89 is unplayable here.

What's the best driver for an old Geforce 2 GTS?

Well guys, your advise did sound promising but things turned out to be a bit more complicated. I tried v71.89 and UT was unusably slow. I even had difficulties moving the cursor to browse the game's menus. I then tried v30.82 and all is well again. Thanks anyway. Oren

What's the best driver for an old Geforce 2 GTS?

Is the latest one the best? Does NVIDIA still update their driver components for old cards? Should I just stick with the built-in WinXP driver? Many questions, hopefully this forum has the answers... :) Thanks, Oren

    Abit AV8 problems & solutions

Thanks for this information. I just built up an AV8-based computer. I haven't installed Windows yet, but yellowTab Neo works fine with it. The only problem I had was that the board couldn't detect my WD drive. It turned out to be a jumpering issue - the drive was jumpered as Master instead...

Is there a VIA K8T800 Pro board with 2 serial (COM) ports?

I have three serial port devices: an external USR analog modem that I still use occasionally to send out faxes, a Wacom Graphire tablet and an old Logitech joystick. None of them is so important for me that I'd buy a replacement at this time, I just prefer a board that allows me to still use...

    Help choosing a 939 mobo

The specs on MSI's website are a bit different. LAN is only 10/100, there are 4 USB 2.0 port and one Firewire port (the rest are headers). Nevertheless, it looks like a great board. I would buy it this second if I could verify BeOS support. Prog.

    Anyone try MSI's new board-MSI RS480M2-IL

I hate to nag, bug since I really want to buy the MSI RS480M2-IL, I might as well put a link to this thread, in which I ask owners of this board to help find out it if's compatible with BeOS (yes, this is the only potential deal breaker for me). Thanks in advance, Oren

Wants to get a MSI RS480M2-IL, but hesitant due to BeOS support

And if I didn't mention it, the easiet way to test it is to download BeOS 5 Personal Edition installer for Windows. Various download links can be found here: http://www.bebits.com/app/2680 or http://snipurl.com/BeOS_PE_Mirrors The installation is very simple. You just run the Installer in...

Wants to get a MSI RS480M2-IL, but hesitant due to BeOS support

This one's probably won't work with stock BeOS. It has issues with any rig with 1GB of RAM (or more). There's the RAM Limiting Bootloader, but unless you're also as curious about this as me, it's probably too much hassle to test...

Wants to get a MSI RS480M2-IL, but hesitant due to BeOS support

I've made up my mind that this board is almost exactly what I want. The only open question that remains is BeOS support (which is very important for me). I'd be very happy if someone who has this board could test if BeOS boots ok with it. BeOS 5 Personal Edition is probably the smallest...
